Most people decide to take photos from the breathtaking coastal line of the Mediterranean Sea at Taormina. I took a photo of the opposite site of this amazing place.

I love standing waiting for the storms and squalls to approach, watching everyone else leave the beach. I just get so absorbed in trying to capture all the drama that i forget about the imminent soaking. Deciding whether to run for cover or not is usually a last second spur of the moment thing.I usually just turn my back, cover the camera and wait , while the hail bounces off and all around me. Deciding to Run is by Richmond Fontaine, sometimes I'll run to a cliff or cave .

Fuji X-E3. What do I do if my "oceanic feeling" won't go away? Will I deny it access to my thinking? Will I say that this is just a survival of a piece of early infantile emotion. Alternatively, will I grant this feeling access to my world and even celebrate it as a way to find union with transcendence, the cosmos from its beginning to its end? You know what? I refuse to decide. This is not an either-or-decision. Both approaches are alive and kicking within me. Deciding this matter is way above me.

Most of the times when I go out shooting, I hope for something and often settle for less, and sometimes nothing at all. This time I got more than I wished for. This little guy was just about done with a night of hunting and decided to have a bite out of its last catch before resting for the day.

We can see on this shot the portion of the prey that was set aside to finish later. That is when I decided to leave, the rest was probably a very quiet owl going to rest.

This Green Heron just couldn’t decide: ‘Should I stay or should I go?’ He would stretch his neck up, begin to leave then compress that magical slinky neck down and relax for a few seconds before doing it again. Finally, he stretched his neck way out and took to the air. Green Herons are often amusing, chasing each other around, making strange sounds, fishing from low branches or from the air and working that magical neck. Lots of fun. I’ll be offline for a bit but wanted to wish everybody a wonderful New Year. See you in ’25! (Butorides virescens) (Sony a1ii, 400mm, f/2.8, 1/3200, ISO 1600)

Sometimes I decide to take a walk to find inspiration and to discover the beauty of urban growth. I know it's a bit early to search for actual flowers, but I did discover some Winter plants in full bloom. Perhaps the early warm days without snow has made nature wake up. This week I have also been hearing birds chirp at 6am..perhaps in a hunt for a female!

I wish a lovely Friday and coming weekend to all my friends. Thank you so much for your support and astonishing comments!!

This tree perched on the edge of the sandstone cliffs at Roslin Glen decides to shed some of its snow into the Esk as the sun beats down from the other side. The backlight on the snow gives the oak a coral effect. For a minutes or so all the trees were getting in on the act here dropping their snow into the river.

The union of Lausanne development companies (USLD) decided to mark the entry into the third millennium through the implementation of the Tower of Sauvabelin. This tower built in local hardwood in a spirit of respect for the environment allows everyone to enjoy the beautiful panorama spanning upper Lausanne. The 302 steps of the tower of Sauvabelin sponsored by many local businesses will allow you to reach the top safely after a regenerative effort. The Sauvabelin Tower is open to the public since December 15, 2003.

Some interesting figures:

tower height: 35 meters

the flat top shape is more than 30 meters, ie well above the tops of the surrounding trees

diameter of the base: 12 meters

diameter of the flat top form: 8 meters

This is the last shot of a series of three I took in de dunes of Ameland, a beautiful Dutch island. I took them at the same spot, but from slightly different angles. At that moment I couldn't decide which composition was the best, I still can't.......maybe I doesn't matter.....

When deciding upon a single photo form a series of takes, some folks will like stuff others don't. I'm usually wrong about which photo people will like best, and by this time I should just learn to distrust myself (or simply not care). But both of those things come hard to me, so here is another horse photo.

Lisa decides her cub, Sasha, has some schmutz on his face and gives it a good cleaning. Sasha seems none too pleased, but somehow endures. :)

Sasha was born six months ago on March 3, 2020 at Brookfield Zoo near Chicago. Amur Leopards are critically endangered with only 65 left in the wild now, so every cub that is born is precious. This is nine year old Lisa's fourth cub - all males!

And they were great playing together. Lisa is an awesome mom.

Schmutz, btw is a great, evocative word meaning 'that gunk on your face,' or more simply 'dirt.' It came to us out of middle German, through Yiddish, into American slang.

Tech note: The habitat for the Amur Leopards at Brookfield Zoo is difficult for cameras to deal with since there is netting/fencing everywhere, and in the morning, the sun backlights everything - so the fences are very apparent in any captures. Before the pandemic, we were able to get close to some large panes of glass, which, along with matting techniques, allow for some great images (see my stream for some of those). But now, they are blocked off, so we can't get close enough to the glass to prevent reflections. For this shot, I was able to find a new angle that was not backlit, but was through not one, but _two_ fences. Fortunately for this shot, with some DoF magic, I could make the fences disappear. :)

Since deciding that drawing with pencils was something I should do, I have been sharing my work with you' This is the last one for now - I must motivate myself to get away from the camera and computer more often!

The start of my 2 day trip to the Lakes I’d planned to first stop off at Ashness to get photo of the iconic bridge, but then decided to head up higher and get a scenic view of Derwent water, as Ashness Bridge would be to dark early doors. So I set out from home at 4:30 am and arrived at surprise view car park at 7:00 am. Given that sunrise was not until 8:30 am it was still pretty dark, so I settled down in the car and fell straight asleep as the next thing I knew it was after 7:30. I got myself organised and started to look for a better POV that surprise view presented, as did not like the overgrowth which would encroach on the right-hand side. With head torch on I tried to find Gower crag, but nothing looked promising so I headed back to Surprise view as the dawn colour started to show in the sky. On taking my photo my first instinct was right so decide a better bet would be to shoot a panorama. So here is a 6 photo stitch of said panorama.

This would be the last frame my camera would take before the shutter deciding to fail in the middle of the Appalachias. I had to run to the nearest Walmart and buy their most expensive Canon to use for the rest of the trip. Unfortunately, due to this camera failure this would be the only shot I'd get of this spotless 70Mac.
