My friend from yesterday suddenly deciding he had enough and, as clearly evident from the photo, startled me in this action. A bad photo, I pondered whether to discard it but played with it a while as best I could and decided to keep it...if for no other reason than the memory. I would have "painted" it but my free processing sites have suddenly decided to ask for money for the privilege as they all eventually do. Actually, it looks a bit like "painting" anyway.

There are a couple of nice points...particularly around the feet where the water spray is nicely expressed. Larger shows it better.

I remember deciding to try this on on the spur of the moment one night, as it had hung in my wardrobe for months with the tags still on. I didn't really think much of it at the time...

The Pyrrhuloxia (pronounced however your mouth decides in the moment) is the desert’s answer to a cardinal—same spiky crest, but with more attitude and less hydration.

I found this one perched on a rare leafy ocotillo, posing like he owned the place. With his candy-corn beak, dusty-red plumage, and permanent side-eye, he’s the bird version of a grumpy old-timer who’s seen things.

He’s tougher than his Northern cousin—built for heat, sand, and yelling at you from a bush for reasons known only to him. His song? Like a cardinal, but sharper, higher, and just a little bit judgmental.

Get the light right, and he glows like a desert ember.

He sings with a sting and glares like a monk—

A feathered grump with desert funk.

After deciding whether to take a photo for the theme, I finally used three crystal balls inside a pale blue foam egg packaging and lined them up in a row. I used my two table lamps for light.

If you decide to travel along this highway into the bowels of the Universe, carry enough fuel to cover the billions of light years ahead of you. You won't find a place to refuel. When you have travelled this distance without finding anything, not even a little bit of intelligent life and you reach the far reaches of the Universe... don't be scared... there's nothing there, either. Only the "nothing". Or since everything is cyclical, perhaps you have returned to the place where you started, full of wisdom from your long trip. It's probably better to look for intelligent life on Earth, but it's also very likely that you'll have a hard time finding it. Don't worry about not understanding the Universe or the reason for its existence... you're not Einstein, but one day you'll understand that... The Universe is wounded, but it still has infinity ahead of it. It still has you and me. Merry Christmas to all and to the infinite Universe that is within you.

Gregory Alan Isakov - The Universe

Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Parts VI–IX

"Shine On You Crazy Diamond", was written as a tribute to Syd Barrett, one of the founders of Pink Floyd. He was also known as "The Crazy Diamond Syd". Barrett was a very creative musician and is considered one of the rock icons, with a strong influence on many artists, very especially to David Bowie. Syd Barrett is a key piece to understand the evolution of rock in the 70s.. Excessive drug use, especially LSD, caused him serious mental health problems. Syd Barrett died in 2006 at the age of 60. Always shine diamond.

Blur - The Universal

The Universal is a science fiction song written as a tribute to two films by film director Stanley Kubrick. In the video, the Blur members wear outfits similar to Alex and his gang of thugs, the protagonists of the movie "A Clockwork Orange." The image used for the cover of the single alluded to what is possibly Kubrick's best film: "2001: To Space Odyssey."

After months of planning and deciding where to go to take the shot of steel wool burning I just went out - drove close to the cemetery a few kilometres away and took the shot. This was a result of the 3rd attempt. i know - it's far from perfect but just a start. I must say I immensly enjoyed taking the shot - it was fun to see those sparks flying around while moving the whisk around. I'll definitely do it more than just once - changing scenery - discovering new places to shoot it - definitely somewhere over the water.

I had a hard time post processing - mainly because of light pollution - the background was too light. Finally just used RawTherapee to tweak it - originally WB was not so good on automatic so had to work on it. I guess I could do it much better but hey it's my first time.

I can hardly ever decide because I LOVE B&W

once thought to be extinct, this "doe doe bird" has been making all too frequent visits to our back yard bird feeder...she stays entirely too long, 10 -15 minutes on this visit, and consumes quite a bit of bird seed...and when she's not getting her fill of bird seed, i believe she is responsible for "pruning" our day lilies, hydrangea, plumbago and creeping raspberry ;-((

on the bright side, i did spot her "fertilizing" our back yard ;-)

I liked the swirly patterns forming between the rocks.

Figures... the one day I decide to come back and post something, Flickr is pretty much broken! It took about ten tries to get this one photo uploaded. I hope it was worth it. :-)

Happy Teddy Bear Tuesday

The Milky Way and the Constellation Scorpius rise over an Undisclosed Location.

Elitist or Entitled? which am I? I’m not sure where I fall…Hum let me see what the dictionary says:

Entitled- Definition….believing oneself to be inherently deserving of privileges or special treatment.

"his pompous, entitled attitude"

Elitist- Definition……..demonstrating a superior attitude or behavior associated with an elite.

"some that say he is a spoiled, elitist snob"

Neither sounds like a camp that I’d want to be in.

The motives for withholding locations are far ranging from “save the location”, to “save the animals” to “save the unprepared from themselves” undisclosed locations…….secret places, are we elitists or are we entitled? Those that cherish the outdoors have seen the ramifications of location over saturation, and they “are” concerned. Of course, it’s because these are the most beautiful places on Earth and they would like to see that future generations can enjoy them as well. Doesn’t sound bad to me? The problem than lies within the human spirit, the spirit to set out and seek what’s out there, to see and feel and smell it with our own senses and take in the scene in all it’s natural glory. If your an inhabitant of this planet than it’s you’re right to see it, of course it is!! The real problem is the person that just purchased a camera and has never been outside the city in his or her life, do i want to give out a location that I shot in the backcountry of the Grand Tetons? If I want to eliminate them than Yes, they would be grizzly scat by morning. But If I’m concerned for their safety or the preservation of the location than NO. How am I to decide who gets a location or not, by deciding am I than elitist? Man and his devices have traveled into the far reaches of this galaxy and beyond and found no solid evidence of life, and the fact that we have been on this planet for just the blink of an eye makes me think that this planet is a gift more than it is a privilege.

IMHO, This planet belongs to every human being but it is a gift and not a privilege!!! does that makes me elitist or just concerned? If you have no outdoor experience than please prepare yourself to see it safely and responsibly. :-)

For those who may not know somehow, mansplaining is definitely not a new term but I'd define it as when a man decides that, because he's a man, he has certain knowledge or skills that a woman (because she's a woman) doesn't have and therefore the woman should definitely listen to him and consider that she could be wrong. I was thinking maybe this is something that actually happens sometimes after a bad date too when a man tries to convince a woman her perception of him wasn't correct and to give him another chance.

We should all actually listen to and respect each other and also gender is a construct. Have a nice day!

This one stands off to one side. Alone. An oaken scruff. I can never decide if it's that he has been ostracised by the others or if he simply wants nothing to do with them.

Let no one cut your wings. You are the one who decides how high you want to fly.

Your heart decides who you want to carry with you in your life

and your behavior decides who stays in your life.

Taken in the Dahlia garden, near “De Piepermolen” te Rekken.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But how did the dahlia garden in Rekken come about?

In 2010, during the centenary celebrations of the Rekken Folk Festival Association (*Vereniging Rekkens Volksfeest*), a dahlia garden was created for the first time at the Piepermolen in Rekken. To mark the association's 100th anniversary, a group of volunteers planted a garden featuring 100 varieties of dahlias—unique types not typically used on the local parade floats. Public interest in the dahlia garden was overwhelming. Consequently, a number of volunteers joined forces again to create another dahlia garden a few years later. Thus, in 2014, a second dahlia garden was established at the Piepermolen. With 160 varieties, this garden was even larger than the one from 2010. Once again, the garden was enhanced with various decorative elements. There was great interest at the opening, and many people visited the garden in the weeks and months that followed. The response was extremely positive, prompting the volunteers to decide right then that the dahlia garden would continue in future years. Now, that time has come again; the volunteers are already busy preparing for the 2022 dahlia garden. This year, many varieties of dahlias will once again be on display.

The volunteers spend more than six months hard at work—not only establishing the garden but, more importantly, maintaining it. Their tasks include planting the dahlias, hoeing, removing spent or damaged blooms, and lifting the tubers at the end of the season. All of this is very labor-intensive; the volunteers certainly spend one afternoon a week on it.

If I ever decide to give up on you, understand how much that took out of me. I'm the type to give endless chances, always have your back even when you're wrong, and truely accept you for who you are. When the rest of the world doesn't want you, I will. So if I decide to give up on you, understand it took everything I had left inside of me to leave you alone. Because if I love you and care for you, there isn't anything on the planet I won't do for you.

An interesting position this Bald Eagle takes in the air as if a bit curious about what it sees below, i.e. trying to decide what it's going to do next.

For Macro Mondays theme: flowers in black and white

I really couldn't decide whether to post this original version [original except for b/w conversion and square crop] or one I softened in iPiccy. The softened photo looked prettier to me, but this version seemed more "true" to the flower. I finally chose this one for the MM group, but the soft one is my previous post -

www.flickr.com/photos/58905205@N07/28234717053/in/photost...

The petals of these flowers really do look and feel like straw - shiny, hard, and somewhat crisp. I had often seen them in dried flower arrangements and bouquets in the fall and assumed their texture came from being dried. However, this nursery plant shows that their texture is natural - the flowers have the dried feel and appearance even as they bloom and grow. Interesting!

Because, sometimes I just can't decide between the color and B&W version.

Natasha, overwhelmed by work and family, decides to call Alexei. He tells her that he has a business trip and if he could accompany her.

She doesn't have any business trips but she needs to disconnect from her day to day; The boy without asking where or when, says YES!

Destination Santorini. Near the southern tip of the island, near the village of Akrotiri and next to the Red Beach, is the White Beach.

Not, as one might expect, a pristine white sand beach, but a gray sand and pebble beach,

with a wide stretch of white cliffs rising vertically above it. The only means of access is an arduous rock climb across the red beach,

or by water taxi. It is a popular beach with divers, who enjoy exploring the base of the cliffs and rocks that make up the cove,

and those who seek more tranquility than in the neighboring Red Beach. There are a few sun loungers and umbrellas available in the mini beach bar,

which also sells water, drinks and snacks. And there we were Alexei and Natasha enjoying that paradise! That boy with an athletic complexion, with tattoos and piercings,

Caucasian. and thinking about the last sentence that Alexei said... << My greatest wish is to be able to make you feel full,

For this, it is essential that we forge a relationship based on trust, everything remains between us in the strictest confidentiality,

as well as in my desire to satisfy each and every one of your fantasies.>>

A re-processed version of a previous post (in the comment). I just couldn't decide which one I might like better!

Which one do you prefer? 😁

Have a peaceful day, everyone...

I could not decide whether to post this image its certainly not what you would call pretty . Nevertheless I like the way the sun catches the building set against a very menacing sky. Some people will find this not easy on the eye will post something less harsh tomorrow.

This was taken from our bedroom of the Doubletree hotel in Greenway Plaze in Houston Texas . One of the oddest hotels I have ever stayed in, the hotel was very quiet and it was in the middle of this very futuristic architecture there was a total absence of people it was like being in some weird Sci Fi set.

We only spent one night in Houston it was not a successful trip . Driving into the city was crazy there seemed to be about twenty lanes of road some tolled some not I took a toll lane by mistake not a good plan we ended up picking up a fine . Leaving Houston was even worse there was torrential rain and the I 10 interstate was closed in our direction . The GPS diverted me down some Texas backroads by then the rain was so heavy the Chevy was aquaplaning all over the road . I have driven thousands of miles in the USA and this was the first time I was scared . Eventually we got back onto the freeway and made in to Lafayette without any further problems it was a long day behind the wheel.

The reason we went to Houston was just to see the Chapel containing some huge Marc Rothko murals . It was interesting to see them but they left me fairly unmoved I much prefer the Seagram murals in Tate Modern in London . You win some and you lose some thats the fun of travelling

THANKS FOR YOUR VISITING BUT CAN I ASK YOU NOT TO FAVE AN IMAGE WITHOUT ALSO MAKING A COMMENT. MANY THANKS KEITH. ANYONE MAKING MULTIPLE FAVES WITHOUT COMMENTS WILL SIMPLY BE BLOCKED
