Macro Mondays theme for the 24th August is Glass.
Throughout much of my macro photography I shoot on glass to get a detailed reflection, with the available light I choose to use ...
Please look through the series of photos; using light, some with reflection, refracted light, detail and point of view ... not all are macro but are a compilation of glass, light and detail.

I love Star Wars, I love whisky. So my wife combined the two and bought me a Stormtrooper shaped glass decanter.
Macro Mondays and the theme of "Glass".
For this theme I finally settled on the lid of a Glass Decanter as my subject. The Decanter has been on a bookcase at my Mum's house completely unused for around 25 years.
For the background I created a few scenes in photoshop using the gradient tool and then set up the subject in front of the laptop screen.
Then it was just a case of flicking between the scenes to see what it looked like and capturing the image.
If you zoom in to the image then you will see around 25 years of grime and dirt that has somehow settled inside the lid.
Decanter some port for the festive season, sure I’ll have to try some later, just to make sure it’s OK. Have a great Christmas everyone

Decanter on Bruntsfield Place, which has this cool serving hatch so they can still take care of customers when they're not allowed inside. Reminds me a little of the small windows in some nothern Italian towns, which were used to pass out wine from bars during plague times. Different century, fairly similar idea!
We were given this ship's decanter but it’s far too big and heavy to use. It makes a good addition to a glass table with decorative glassware, in front of a full length landing window.
Taken with a Meyer-Optik Görlitz Trioplan 100mm f2.8 lens.

I took a whole variety of shots for this week's Macro Monday theme "What is that?" Great fun! Some of the more successful shots were taken of this stopper from a lead crystal decanter. The play of light through the crystal gave for some interesting effects, together with different apertures. Having been to an event with Professor Brian Cox last week where he showed a simulation of flying around a black hole, I couldn't help seeing a certain kind of similarity in this photo (although obviously the very middle should be black for a black hole!!).

As anyone who saw my 365 last year will know, backlit glass is something I fall back on when I'm stuck for a shot. I had forgotten about my lovely Dartington ship's decanter until I started looking for something different to use.
There it was, sitting on a shelf, and the light just caught it and made a shadow on the wall. Rushed to get my little camera and managed to get a few pictures. And, no, this is not in black and white!
The decanter - a birthday gift from my son, and it came empty!
Decanter on a wet night - rather pleasingly they describe their place as a "winery and dinery", which makes me smile.
A vintage decanter, wrapped with raffia.
