En Sayago, mas concretamente en Pereruela se encuentra el Puente de las Urrietas.
Si algo llama la atención entre los prados verdes y los ciclópeos pedruscos de la rivera, es este puente.
Es una de esas joyas hoy perdidas en nuestros campos que provienen de la noche de los tiempos. Nadie sabe cuál es su origen, si romano o medieval, porque ha sido reconstruido a través de los siglos debido a su intenso uso.
Lo cierto es que daba servicio a la calzada de Zamora a Miranda
Es un puente de tres ojos, mayor el del medio, con bóvedas de cañón, fuerte y macizo, pegado al terreno o, mejor, a las enormes piedras de una de las orillas. Hoy, sin embargo, al puente le han nacido arbustos en los tajamares, pilastras y pretiles, señal de que no se le cuida como se debiera, lo que puede acelerar su muerte a pesar de sus siglos –tal vez milenios- de historia…
En cualquier caso es una preciosidad. Actualmente la rivera casi no tiene agua -y la que tiene no corre- pero antaño se bañaban los chavales perigüelanos a la vista del puente.
Puente que habla, sin palabras, de la historia de esta tierra y de sus hombres.
Aquí vemos un gran patio, se halla el Anguri Bagh o jardín de las Uvas que debe su nombre a que, al parecer, tuvo viñas en algún tiempo; es un jardín de trazado geométrico, dividido en cuatro partes por dos paseos perpendiculares de mármol blanco, de unos seis metros de anchura; en su centro presenta un estanque, también de mármol. Enfrente se encuentra el Khas Mahal (palacio privado) construido en mármol blanco en 1636; es una terraza con tres pabellones; en medio de ella hay un estanque con reborde lobulado. El pabellón central es una estancia abierta y limitada por arcos lobulados excepto en su parte posterior que presenta amplias celosías de mármol calado a través de las que puede observarse el río; y en sus extremos se elevan dos chattris con cúpula de cobre.

2 weekends ago at Chatfield Reservoir. Deb stood by the car and drew trees and an audience. 2 Crows were greatly interested. I'm guessing that people returning to the parking lot after a hike often share some trail mix with them.

La cotorra de La Española o cotica (Amazona ventralis) es un loro endémico de la Isla La Española, República Dominicana y Haití. Ha sido introducida en Puerto Rico y en las Islas Vírgenes de los Estados Unidos donde se ha reproducido y está establecida.
Es una especie que está en peligro de extinción debido a su comercialización y destrucción de su habitat.
Esta especie de psitacido se puede identificar por su color verde brillante, frente blanca, manchas negras alrededor de los oídos, en el vientre tiene plumas rojas y amarillas, su cola es verde y roja y de forma cuadrada y sus alas tiene algunas plumas azules. Su pico es fuerte. Se alimenta de frutas, cereales y verduras en su habitat natural. Puede llegar a vivir hasta 50 años en la vida silvestre. Forman pareja para toda la vida y vuelan en bandadas surcando los cielos.
Las principales amenazas a las poblaciones silvestres son el saqueo de los polluelos o pichones para el tráfico de mascotas, así como la pérdida de hábitat por la tala por el avance de la frontera agropecuaria y la producción de leña y carbón.
Si las autoridades no toman medidas estrictas con las amenazas, la destrucción de su hábitat y el saqueo de sus nidos, esta especie caerá en riesgo de desaparición.

Anidan en cavidades de arboles donde ponen de 2-4 huevos, tambien se han reportado anidaciones en repisas rocosas y pequeñas cuevas en laderas calizas.

The Hispaniolan amazon or Hispaniolan parrot (Amazona ventralis) is a species of parrot in the Psittacidae family. It is found on Hispaniola (Haiti and the Dominican Republic), and has been introduced to Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The main features that differentiate it from other amazons are the white forehead, pale beak, white eye-ring, blue ear patch, and red belly.
Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forests, subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, subtropical or tropical moist montane forests, and plantations. It is threatened in its home range by habitat loss and the capture of individuals for the pet trade.
The presence of this bird outside of its native Hispaniola is due to it being introduced, this in part from a release of birds raised in captivity as a studied rehearsal for the re-colonization program of the highly endangered Puerto Rican amazon.

For Bokeh Wednesday, we revisit the Huntington Library in San Marino, CA.
They have a very cool, curvy pathway in one part of the gardens lined with a small bamboo "forest." The light coming through the stalks and leaves is just beautiful.
Many of the bamboo stalks have declarations of love like this one.

I met Debs at a Classic Motorcycle & Car show in Sleaford. We talked about motorbikes and howling Debs had been riding motorbikes. Debs willingly agreed to pose for a photograph but in my hurry I totally overlooked the tree branch intruding onto Debs' face.
