What surprised me about the dunes was how silky and powdery the sand is. It has a satiny sheen in the early morning and late afternoon light.
After a breach in the dyke protecting a pasture south of Llandimore Marsh the land has become part of the marshland with its rich biodiversity.. Unfortunately this has caused the trees in the foreground to die from the salty tides.
Death Valley Abstract - I love all the layers and colours in the sandstone you find in Death Valley National Park. I made this photo in Twenty Mule Team Canyon a few weeks ago.

Capital punishment, the death penalty, or execution is the killing of a person by judicial process as a punishment for an offense. Crimes that can result in a death penalty are known as capital crimes or capital offences. The term capital originates from Latin capitalis, literally "regarding the head" (Latin caput). Hence, a capital crime was originally one punished by the severing of the head.
Capital punishment has in the past been practiced in virtually every society, although currently only 58 nations actively practice it, with 95 countries abolishing it (the remainder having not used it for 10 years or allowing it only in exceptional circumstances such as wartime). It is a matter of active controversy in various countries and states, and positions can vary within a single political ideology or cultural region .

Over my kids spring break, we took a road trip down to Death Valley. It was an awesome trip and great memories were made.

Desolation Canyon, Death Valley, California
A view of Death Valley from the mouth of Desolation Canyon. I believe the vegetation we see on the valley floor is mesquite trees, watered by the spring that supplies Furnace Creek with water. Beyond are the Panamint Mountains.
Endangered species. Last month this Blockbuster was closed due to lack of demand. Apparently we are all streaming now!

In the springtime, if the conditions are optimal, the Death Valley blooms as the desert comes alive with fields of flowers. That year we tried our luck out at the Ibex Sand Dunes. We ventured out on the washboard road to the backcountry Ibex Sand Dunes. It was a good sign to see yellow coreopsis flowers along the road. On our hike out to the dunes we found quite a good display of the fragrant sand verbena wildflowers as well. The southern end of Death Valley was fragrant with scent of the sand verbena flowers. As I was climbing the dunes the sunset started. I was trying to find a shot the flower and the dunes. And then I found these sand verbena beauties.
Death Valley as seen from Dante's View. The white area near the center is the salt flats area of Badwater Basin, the hottest and lowest point in North America at 282 ft. (86 m) below sea level. The mountains on the opposite side of the valley are the Panamint Range, whose highest point, Telescope Peak, is 11049 ft. (3368 m) above sea level. The total relief from top to bottom, over 11300 ft., is one of the greatest of any mountain range in North America.
This house has quite a view of the desert below. I wonder who lived here and what was there life like? Where was the wood sourced from? Lots of interesting questions to answer.
We arrived in Death Valley on October 18th, 2015. Some locations had 5 inches of rain. The following morning, we saw large pools of water west of route 190 and north of Furnace Creek. It was a long walk (~1.5 miles from the road) to get close, and at times I wondered whether it was a mirage. I’m guessing it’s rare to see the mountains and clouds reflected in standing water at this spot.

I've never really had much experience with death until recently, only when I was younger but I didn't understand much of it. I took this as a self portrait as it's a concept that's very personal to me. It's reminded me that I should really appreciate life and the people I have in it right now.
"Death Valley Sand Dunes" by Patti Deters. The Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes are ever changing and this particularly hot windy day resulted in a huge and pretty curved sand dune sitting high above smaller more horizontal dunes in the foreground.
