De kapel van St. Bartholomeus

dinsdag 19 november 2021

The Chapel of St. Bartholomew

The first documents mentioning the existence of a church in Saas-Grund (Canton of Valais) date from 1297.

The Chapel of St. Bartholomew was elevated to a valley church around 1400 and consecrated as a parish church. In 1685, a new valley church was built on the old site and consecrated on July 31, 1687.

Until 1893, the four municipalities in the Saas Valley formed a parish with the mother church in Saas-Grund. Therefore, the residents of the four communities attended Mass in Saas-Grund.

On June 1, 1893, Saas-Fee and Saas-Almagell seceded from the mother church and founded their own parishes. Saas-Balen followed suit in 1907. On August 28, 1939, the Bishop of Sion consecrated the new church in Saas-Grund.

The bell tower was intended to remind us of the ancient connection between the Saas Valley and the neighboring Anzasca Valley.

A door in the Jever Castle

Jever Castle (German Schloss Jever) is located in the old town of the town of the same name Jever in the state of Lower Saxony in Germany. The castle dates back to a castle of East Frisian chieftains. The current castle was built on the remains of the ruined castle from 1427 and was the seat of the lordship of Jever.

In the years 1560-1564, the then regent Maria von Jever had several renovations carried out in the Renaissance style.

In 1667 the castle came into the hands of the princes of Anhalt-Zerbst, who hardly used the castle. During this time there were no significant changes until Johan August van Anhalt-Zerbst came to live at the castle. He had the current tower built, which is also on the labels of the Jeverbier of the same name.

From 1793 until her death, the castle was owned by Catherine II, Tsarina of Russia. After her death, the castle passed into the hands of the Duchy of Oldenburg. The Dukes of Oldenburg used the castle as a secondary residence.

Since 1921, the castle has served as a museum where changing exhibitions can be viewed.

Since we started doing infomercials for DeaD's Death Depot on late night tv, we needed some new office space. As you can see, Samara is covering the phones and computer waiting for anxious customers. As always, Killer is adding that personal touch to this office making it feel like a home away from home. Thanks Killer!
