Hi gang! I know I've posted a series of blossoms over the last couple of days but I'm trying out taking pictures during different times of the day. One of the things the pros suggested to me last weekend was to try getting out more during the golden hour. So, I'm heeding their advice and I can really see the difference waiting for the right light can make.
I was at an art exhibition. The largest painting was gone. I told the curator "You're missing the big picture."
Did you hear about the guy whose whole left side was cut off? He's all right now.

Eggs have long been symbols of fertility and life.
Auto correct zapped this egg quicker than a laser!!
A visit to the Solway coast at Powfoot in Scotland and some nice skies and reflections. I spotted a couple walking their dogs so waited until they were pinpricks in the distance and took this. They handily give a sense of scale.
I took a shot which used this technique back in 2010 when I was just starting out. I remember liking it and even got it into a little exhibition locally. The next year at the same exhibition there was a painting which was exactly that photo, even called Walking the Dog. So, I am more pleased with Walking the Dog II as the plagiarist has got more work to do this time around if they want a good copy!
Yesterday's photo had a touching story from a trip I took to France. I had intended to say there were two stories that were embedded in my memory from that town twinning trip. But after writing about the old solider, I felt it seemed inappropriate to tag on the second story, with its crude theme... However, I feel enough time has passed now.
On the trip that year were a retired Canon from the Cathedral and his wife. A really lovely couple, but very prim and proper. They were lovely people, but very reserved.
One day, part of the itinerary put on by our French hosts was a trip to a local vineyard. The couple in question didn't drink at all and therefore decided to stay out amongst the vines and the fields of the farm and the attached vineyard. They were keen birdwatchers, and having no interest in wine, opted to keep an eye out for local wildlife.
My Dad had arranged the trip that year and when the wine had all been tasted, he went over to speak to the couple. As he approached they suddenly looked slightly alarmed. Dad noticed they looked at each other, and then at the floor, their binoculars dangling idly around their necks. Feeling disconcerted, and wanting to make sure they were having a good time, he asked 'have you seen anything interesting?'
They muttered something and shuffled off back to the bus. Only then did my Dad turn around and see in the field behind, the two amorous donkeys that had chosen to engage in their energetic tryst just as he had approached and enquired about their luck with the wildlife spotting.

"Closer To Fine" (1989)
The Indigo Girls
I'm trying to tell you something about my life
Maybe give me insight between black and white
The best thing you've ever done for me
Is to help me take my life less seriously, it's only life after all
Well darkness has a hunger that's insatiable
And lightness has a call that's hard to hear
I wrap my fear around me like a blanket
I sailed my ship of safety till I sank it, I'm crawling on your shore.
I went to the doctor, I went to the mountains
I looked to the children, I drank from the fountain
There's more than one answer to these questions
pointing me in crooked line
The less I seek my source for some definitive
The closer I am to fine.
I went to see the doctor of philosophy
With a poster of Rasputin and a beard down to his knee
He never did marry or see a B-grade movie
He graded my performance, he said he could see through me
I spent four years prostrate to the higher mind, got my paper
And I was free.
I went to the doctor, I went to the mountains
I looked to the children, I drank from the fountain
There's more than one answer to these questions
pointing me in crooked line
The less I seek my source for some definitive
The closer I am to fine.
I stopped by the bar at 3 a.m.
To seek solace in a bottle or possibly a friend
I woke up with a headache like my head against a board
Twice as cloudy as I'd been the night before
I went in seeking clarity.
I went to the doctor, I went to the mountains
I looked to the children, I drank from the fountain
There's more than one answer to these questions
pointing me in crooked line
The less I seek my source for some definitive
The closer I am to fine.

We go to the bible, we go through the workout
We read up on revival and we stand up for the lookout

Having my new tripod for the first time I took the opportunity to get a shot from a lower viewpoint. The last one's legs had seized up, so I couldn't do that anymore. I was hampered for sharpness a little here due to the fact my gear was sinking in the sand, but I was happy to be out and about.
Earlier in the day I'd seen a few people I recognised from a town twinning trip I took to France several years ago. Perhaps a decade or more ago, a French family were on holiday in the Brampton area when they had a terrible car accident in which they lost a young child. They said, because of the help and support they had from local people at that awful time, they wanted to create something to bring the communities together. So, with the two local councils, they arranged for Brampton to be twinned with Marmagne in France, with groups from each town visiting each other every other year.
I went on one of these trips and stayed with a French family. Each meal would start with a bottle of Champagne with some nibbles, followed by a bottle of white during the starter, two bottles of red with the main and brandy with the coffee. They were very generous hosts, from what I can remember.
One story really stands out from my visit. Travelling with us that year was a veteran of WWII. He had been in France with the British Army when it fell to the advancing Nazi forces. He was caught behind enemy lines and hiding in some fields next to Marmagne. With patrols of enemy soldiers everywhere, he was helped by a small boy of 6, who guided him to his farmhouse and alerted his father. The farmer arranged for him to be smuggled out, posing as a Frenchman, with a woman from the village pretending to be his bride when he passed through the army checkpoints. He managed to escape, and get evacuated back to Britain thanks to the young boy and his family, who had risked their lives.
On the trip, we gathered at the town's war memorial as the old solider was reunited with the little boy, now of course a grown man with a family of his own. There's a lump in my throat remembering that moment, and there wasn't a dry eye that day.

Couldn't sleep in today, so I went downstairs early to make the coffee and get the paper and was greeted with this quiet scene of morning fog. If I was slightly more ambitious I would have put on the sneakers and taken a walk in the peaceful, quiet neighborhood, but the coffee just smelled too good....

Annie was in Quebec city for a tour but Christian had to stay in Montreal for work so we were apart for a couple days.
For today's picture, we decided to play a game where we give each other a word imposing an idea for the photo of the day.
Annie gave Christian the word "destroy" and Christian gave Annie the word "foggy".
Here's Annie's final result. You can see Christian's picture here:

Woohoo! Explored! Thanks everyone!!!!
Rhythm and Booms from one of the back sides of Warner Park. The rain and mosquitoes threatened all day but we were spared of both in the end. It ended up being a beautiful night for fireworks.

March 29th. In Manchester now. Spent the day in town seeing the city, with a little shopping. we also went to the MOSI. On the way you can see this building ( Beetham Tower) which is amazing. We did go up to the bar half way up. But there was no room for us all. Took some pics of the view but this remained my favourite of the day.
I have a slight 'heights' problem, but i also get it looking up too. Is that acrophobia (fear of heights) or vertigo? Is this relevant to 'love health'. Probably not but I did get some medical terminology in!
Due to the coronavirus outbreak the government has seized the magic from Tommy Poppins' flying umbrella. He has now been stuck on this roof for 5 days, please send ladders.

Named for Chief Topinabee (1758-1826), an important Potawatomi tribal leader, this lake is really more of a shallow marsh. Seen here on a snowy day, it is typical of the wetland habitats that historically dotted much of southern Berrien County, Michigan. The 71-acre Topinabee Lake Preserve has been preserved by the Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy since 1995. By mid-summer, the lake will be choked with spadderdock.
Don't worry. As long as you hit that wire with the connecting hook at precisely 88mph the instant the lightning strikes the tower... everything will be fine.
... and when does the lightning strike the Clocktower? Hint in the picture ;o) This is actually a pocket watch I inherited from my Granddad and normaly keep savely locked away not wanting anything to happen to it.
