Our Daily Challenge - Reflection

78: 365

Any guesses what is doing the reflecting?

Waited around for the sun to come up this morning and captured the rich abundant light. These daffodils are in my neighbors yard so hopefully they weren't too creeped out that I was lurking in their yard waiting for the sun to rise. At this point I think they are just used to me hanging out with my camera on their property. Yeah, I'm that neighbor.

I am challenging myself to use my 55-250 mm lens more. The lens has great reviews but I have never been able to get images that are sharp.

I’m stepping away from this for a while.

I’ve reached a point in my life when it’s become necessary to strip away the things that are unessential, and I need to make some decisions and realign a few priorities. I know that sounds ambiguous, and I don’t mean to try to be mysterious; it’s just that this is a public forum and I don’t think the world needs to see every last facet of my mind.

In light of this, I’m going to leave Flickr for a while. I don’t know how long. I need to focus less on the virtual world and more on the real one that I live in, and to do what I can to make the real world better—for me, and for the people I love, and for beings I don’t know but care about anyway, because they have the capacity to experience suffering, and love, and joy.

I want to thank every single one of you for all the kindness you have shown me. Nobody makes you leave comments. Nobody makes you list my photos as your favorites. Nobody makes you send me emails or write me testimonials. You do it because you want to. You choose to give me your time.

And that, to me, is moving and beautiful. I feel honored. I feel thankful. I love you for taking the time to do what you do, and I thank you for making me smile. It is such a simple gesture, to do something that makes someone else smile, and sometimes it’s all that matters.

I wish all of you the joyous sort of feeling one achieves upon leaping up into the sunset.

So goodbye for now, and thank you again for everything. Thank you, thank you thank you.

Blue Shirt Day, also known as World Day of Bullying Prevention, takes place on the first Monday of October each year, being the kickoff to National Bullying Prevention Month. Students, schools, and community members wear blue shirts to highlight bullying prevention, and in solidarity with those who experience bullying in all its forms, such as cyberbullying, cruelty, racism, and homophobia. The color blue was chosen because in many cultures it is seen as bringing calmness and peace, as well as importance and confidence.

"The Last Leaf"by Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.

And if I should live to be

The last leaf upon the tree

In the spring,

Let them smile, as I do now,

At the old forsaken bough

Where I cling.

So it's official. I elaborated so hard I broke the coffee table. Nice. I will be adding a little note to show where, and no, my face isn't as calm and smooth as Kyle's... but I almost feel when the table leg gave way.

This is the underground life of Flickr that you just don't see on tv or read in the papers.

Today’s Daily Shoot assignment is: Change your angle today. Make a photo from 1' (30 cm) off the ground and post it.

Day 78 ~ 365: the 2013 edition

obligatory spring shot, but with a hint of rebellion: in monochrome!

A friend visited yesterday, when this post was to happen, and the meeting was the most wonderful thing in the world. When sometimes you feel like you're drifting apart or something, then this few minutes of one-to-one chat are more than enough to assure you that nothing's changed. Not only - there were some very exciting news, too.

So I missed this post yesterday and have no regrets! :)

Theme of the week was High Key, this is my first try at this technique, comments and critiques are therefore welcome. I don't own powerful lights so the effect is obtained in photoshop.

Please be careful if you see this poster. It occasionally is posted on a wall, bench or pole.

Submission for Bodyscape for TACWD.

Bodyscape - Take a photo of the human body. Any part of it. But no faces. And no clothes. Photos may contain "nudity," but they certainly don't have to (arms, legs, fingers, feet, whatever). This group contains some nice examples (they lean toward the nudity side, but many are definitely PG-rated). I am absolutely convinced that everyone can do something interesting here, regardless of whether or not you have access to a model other than yourself and regardless of what the body you're shooting looks like. Think lighting. Think shadows. Think creative perspectives and crops. Create some art!

Here I am hard at work today.

Well, okay... this was during lunch break. But still. Today included rather a lot of standing by to stand by.

And yet I still didn't manage anything more creative than this. ah well. *shrug* Tomorrow should be a beautiful warm sunny day so hopefully I'll take a photo outside in some of that loveliness.

Apparently, in my last photo, I looked sad / lonely / scared / et al. I do appreciate the concern and sincerely apologize if my retort came off as rude (it wasn't intended as such, as I imagine your comments were those of concern - not criticism). I am 'alone' on my vacation, but I have always sought solitude and time away from people so I can occasionally clear my head and heart. You may have seen feelings in my eyes and/or demeanor that I'm in denial or unaware of. I'm in a transitional moment -- finding a new home, new job (hopefully), new lots of things. I also am also deeply saddened by my father's condition and the rapid degeneration of his mind and life. I feel this every second, every minute, every hour, every day. I cannot run away from it and have stopped trying to. I love my father as much as anything in the world, so I feel incredibly guilty and angry at my own fear to spend time with him. I do see him and help him often. And it hurts. And I carry this burden daily and it clearly shines through, despite my best attempts to conceal it. I care about you all very much and know that the feelings are mutual. So, contrary to my short-lived comment in earlier response to you, I thank you for your attentiveness and concern, and am happy that you picked something out that I ought not to deny the existence of.

i guess i can get sentimental with stuffs that i just get to keep them for posterity. this is my first digital watch i bought for around USD20.00 in 1983. it used to be my allaround watch which i'd use for sports activities or travelling until i retired it decades ago. although not maintained as good as i want to , it still keeps good time and the battery only needs replacing every 3 to 4 years. in recent years digital watches had a resurgence and i would show this watch off to some kids who would be amazed by its age. amazing timepiece!

I think I'm done with pink now.

#1 on Explore - thanks everyone!!

Maybe I should rethink being done with pink...

Day 78 of 365 days

Today I helped out and went to my grandparents house where my aunts/uncles were having a yard sale to sell their stuff (2 years later). It was bittersweet, I put some stuff in there but nothing sold... but I came home with a new jeff cap (all my jeff caps I own were one of my grandfathers- how cool?), the cutest summer dress, and a few books to read this summer :) ONE PERSONS TRASH IS ANOTHER PERSONS TREASURE.

Sometimes, accidents happen. Wonder what's that blue goop though.

TRP - From The Ground - Low Angle Photography .

Another quick shot for this eve...we had Fajitas for tea and I captured these before they disappeared into the pan....mmmm yummy !

Been a hectic couple of days, I will try to catch up with everyones streams soon.

Thanks for continued support with views, comments and faves :)
