Its really cool to see what can be photographed right from your backyard. Daily, I take my dog, Ruger, down to the creek behind our house. Its a time for him to explore the woods with his coonhound nose and its a time for me to look for new things in my surroundings. Even though I've been in these woods many times before, I still manage to find something new on every trip.
Don't you understand
That I've been true to you, but I'm in demand,
Because gentlemen prefer blondes like me?
They buy me champagne
Because they say
that they admire my brain.
Because gentlemen prefer blondes like me.
They'd take me out dancing,
Cross my heart, I wasn't in the mood.
But after all, when they'd call,
I just couldn't be rude.

I made white chocolate and cherry cookies and now I wait for somebody to eat them so I can bake something else :)
We were both sick, thanks to some advil, I was able to feel well enough to try and capture some fog photos. None of those turned out like I hoped but we had fun in the woods for a few minutes. Afterwards we both crashed on the couch for the rest of the day.
Day 2 of my attempts to take photos through a crystal ball.
This time a small lake - look closely & you might even see a swan !

Using new conversion lens ...when used in whole it makes lens a wideangle..Was trying to get the feel of the lens and learn when not to focus anymore ...
Day 19 brings the other kid home from college, and a 12-year-old Dalmore finished in a 1st fill Oloroso sherry cask and bottled at 57.2% ABV. Nice, deep copper color, with a lot of dried citrus, vanilla, and ginger on the nose. Spice, sherry sweet, and dried plums and figs on the palate, leading to a nice warming finish where the citrus notes come out again. This is another sherry bomb, not surprising given the color. A hair sweeter than I prefer, but a nice dram for the night.
Tonight's photo is largely an exercise in "what haven't I used for a prop yet?"
Shot on iPhone 5.
Well, the first day back from holidays is always a downer, particularly during a 365. And it was back to the heat after the colder days of Tassie. So, I was out at 4.30am for my first long run in 2 weeks, trying to get it over and done with before it got too hot. When I was running near the raised train line that heads out to the airport, I might have liked the way the sun was coming up enough to stop and take this picture. Or, I might have needed to stop before I collapsed :-) Either way, that's pic number 19 done and dusted.
So I set up about four experimental light stuffs in my garage today. I really had no plan other than to play with lighting as I'm sort of stuck doing the same light set ups...again and again. I didn't really like any of them.
I did try and imitate some light by one of my favorite commercial fashion photographers. He had just done a spread for Rick Owens' new Darkshadow line. It is killer by the way. I failed miserably with trying to get the lighting he had. When I was finished and had broken all my lighting down I went to his website to compare what I had done to his images and...well. He had written a new blog post with the lighting diagrams for the shoot. Duh...I guess I could have saved myself four hours and just looked at the diagrams.
stooopid.
This shot has nothing to do with any of that but its' BOOM.
Day nineteen!
I did use a flag for the first time to illuminate only my face, so i guess I did learn something.
I've been a fan of the wife & husband team known as Day19 for awhile, now. Their work is just consistently stellar, and if that wasn't enough, they've also got an ongoing project involving a 4x5 Polaroid camera.
Hot damn.
So, after some back & forth w/them on Twitter, I finally decided to ask if I could take their picture.
And thus ended up in front of their house on a friday morning, realizing I'd just placed myself in an extremely strange situation.
"Hi, I wanna hang out in your house, take your picture a bit, oh, no reason, just like taking pictures, hey-o!"
I hadn't done this in quite awhile, had forgotten how odd it might seem. It felt strange, intrusive, yet also shades of exciting, new people!
Fortunately, I brought bagels.
Also, Jeremy and Claire (and their son, Eli) were awesome.
Wasn't long into my visit before I began to feel a bit more comfortable about the whole thing, once we'd started talking babies (I was a nanny several years ago) and photography (I happen to take pictures rather often).
And we all ate bagels, because bagels are good.
It was a blast talking to professionals who are well into the Sweet part of their career, where they are making a living doing what they do, folks who take amazing photos, but are regular people with regular worries and interests.
They're just like everybody else! But much much better at photography!
So thanks, Claire & Jeremy!

On Saturday I went to Keswick and took my little girl to see the Railway Children at the Theatre By The Lake. It was a really good day, but time wasn't on my side.
I got a couple of shots at the lake shore before the performance started but was extremely rushed. Not happy with the results when I got around to looking at them, far too much clutter and irrelevant details. So, I've chopped the top of this photo and cut it all out - which makes it marginally better!
I'm behind this weekend and will catch up over the coming days!
