Day 168 of 365

Also my Week 22, Assignment 3 for Take A Class With Dave and Dave.

U2 - You all did such a great job with my favorite movie, let's see what you can do with my favorite band. You've got 25+ years of material to inspire you. No rules other than that your photo must be in some way inspired by the band U2.

I'm not the biggest U2 fan in the world. It's not that I mind their music, they just fall outside of my particular tastes. If I hear a song by them on the radio, I don't jump up to change the channel, but neither do I seek them out. I don't purchase their albums or singles and the radio stations I typically listen to don't play them either. One of the few songs I am actually familiar with is "40."

This image has to do with the chorus of the song:

How long to sing this song?

How long to sing this song?

How long...how long...how long...

How long...to sing this song

Hee hee :-D. A bit tongue and cheek, but inspired by U2 nonetheless. BTW, I do think this song drags on a bit at the end.

June 17th 169/366

This is a photo of South Dalton Church, this wasn't going to be my photo of the day but I got sidetracked on the way back to Beverley so I decided to come straight home. This is what happened.

I was driving back down the back road into Beverley from South Dalton where I'd taken this photo when I saw what I thought was a whisp of smoke coming from one of the ditches off the right hand side of the road. I found somewhere to pull over and turned round. When I got back to the spot the smoke had gone but I pulled over anyway and got out of the car. I had a look through the bushes and down close to the ditch when I found the remains of a bumper and the grass was all flat. I walked further down the ditch following the debris and found a car in the bottom of the ditch with a lady trying to get out of it. I managed to get her back to my car where I phoned the police and ambulance service. She was really shaken up but appeared to be OK.

After a short while a paramedic first responder arrived who was followed a little while later by a police car then an ambulance too. The lady didn't remember what happened at all and there were no skid marks on the road just a long trail of damage through the undergrowth into the ditch. The paramedics and ambulance crew guessed she must have blacked out and left the road. She was so lucky, the car had missed a large tree trunk by less than a metre, and at 50mph(ish) you can only guess at what would have happened. I'm just really glad she's OK.

Shamrocks and shenanigans.

Probably one of my favorite places in Minneapolis to visit: Minnehaha Falls. It is a big tourist spot in one of the busiest parks in the city.

Day 168, April 19, 2007

365 Days</a

Everyone has a band that they fall in love with at a young age. A band that they obsess over, plaster all over their walls, buy all their cds, singles, and their other paraphernalia. I guess some people grow out of these bands, some don't. I discovered the Smashing Pumpkins when I was 14. I don't know, for some reason they spoke to me. I remember laying on my bed, doing nothing but listening while I played their cds. I had posters, magazine cut-outs, post cards, and photos all over my walls and ceilings. I even kissed Billy Corgan's face goodnight...many times. ;-) I know, I'm a dork. And I got older and into lots of underground music and most of the friends I met in that scene probably didn't think the Smashing Pumpkins were very cool, but I never cared. They were always my favorite. I even went to see Billy solo at the 9:30 club a couple years ago. So when I heard there was going to be a new album, I was stoked. I was kind of nervous, too. It's been a long time, D'arcy and James aren't with the band anymore - I mean, let's be honest, they never wrote much of the music, but still...they were part of the aura. I was afraid I wouldn't like it, but as it turns out, it's pretty freakin rockin. I like it. It came out today. I'm happy.

365 Days: Day 168

Zeit·geist /ˈtsaɪtˌgaɪst/ [tsahyt-gahyst]

–noun German.

the spirit of the time; general trend of thought or feeling characteristic of a particular period of time.

Off the ferry from Dublin, we started cycling from Holyhead at around midday. Wales has many silly places names, this is perhaps the silliest. Perhaps.

Location: Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, enroute to Snowdonia National Park, Wales.

Distance cycled: 78km

Trip total: 1480km (I thought about doing a separate total for Europe, but decided that was too much effort, and after a month it won't make too much difference anyway)

I'm off tomorrow. I didn't get everything done that I wanted to do, but I think I did enough for it not to gnaw at me over the weekend.

Busy day at work so I have not had much time to think about photography, I decided though that I should try and get my final shot for the Monthly Scavenger Hunt - Doctor? Doctor? Doctor!.

My son enjoys playing with Playmobile and thought theses doctors would fit the theme perfectly.

Day168, 外婆生日快樂

..take a photo of the dog.

SUCH a busy day today getting ready for a gathering we're having on Saturday. I started a little while back clearing things out of the house, using this upcoming party as a kick-start. I wasn't going to start moving furniture around yet until after Saturday because we need to get a new, used couch, but one thing led to another...

...Pete and the kiddo got into it as well and we moved everything around, cleaning as we went. The kiddo got her room sorted so we can figure out what she needs for overnight camp. Meanwhile I was doing loads and loads of laundry (bedding, tablecloths, pillows kind of laundry).

Next thing we knew it was dinner time! Thank goodness it was Pete's turn to cook. I realized I had to take a daily photo, and just had no motivation whatsoever.

Tyson always is a lovely thing to shoot. Good boy!

another great night. happy i didn't have to ring a cowbell tonight.

Just a clock, showing the bloody time. It isn't even faster than my own watch!

I and my friend Sungazing are doing a little project within the 365. We have given one another seven concepts to use for the self portraits during one week.

Day six - Much Ado About Nothing

Day 168 - Summer finally feels like it is here.

Trying to stick with this week's theme of architecture, this is the Roundhouse in Camps Bay.

The Roundhouse is now a restaurant in Camps Bay. It was built in 1786 and it is the second oldest building in Camps Bay and it is a National Monument.

It was originally built as a small, round guardhouse to protect enemies from entering Cape Town from the Camps Bay side.

From 1817-1823 Lord Somerset used the round house as a hunting lodge. Lord Somerset and his friends would shoot lions, leopards and buck on the slopes of Lion's Head. The lodge consisted of a hall, a saloon, 6 bedrooms, a kitchen and a pantry and a slave room. Lord Somerset demanded only the finest fittings be used in the Roundhouse.

From 1837 onwards The Roundhouse was used as a restaurant, tea room, boutique hotel . From 1975 - 2006 it lay empty and derelict. In 2006 it was bought and restored and opened its doors as a fine restaurant in June 2008.

Bring on the fetish folks!

I was lazy tonight and wanted to shoot something other than my face. Hence the closeup of my absurdly Frodo-like feet.

Day 168:

Today’s photo was did not go as planned. I wanted the little gummy to have

something written on his sign. It ended up being dumb, so I trashed the sign

and made a new one. I don’t know what he should be saying, so I just put a

question mark in quotations. I’m leaving it up to you to figure it out.

If you were a gummy what message would you most likely want to convey to

others?

June 17, 168/365 (1995/2192)- Another long day but Kyle does seem to be making progress. They toss everyone out of SICU for shift change so I had gone to my Pub Theology bible study and then drove by the marina for this just-after-sunset shot before gong back for a bit to be with Rebekah & Kyle.

[Day 168/365]

I'm not sure anything beats reading an entire book while getting some rays.

ps. yes, I was wearing sun screen.

yard work pays off!

and not only that, i now have two legfuls of new lovely scratches.

fantabulous! :)

currently listening : never change - dear juliet

Or at least floating above the turf at Wembley Stadium on these large plastic tiles. Not that I am a football fan but it was fun to be at the centre of the stadium.

Escorting my wife to Metallica, July 2007.

Went to the local carnival in the evening to experiment with some long exposures before and after dusk and then tried some candid shots... it was getting late and my son was really tired, and as we were walking back to the car I stopped to put some stuff in my bag and just as I looked up, I saw my wife and son walk under this lights.. luckily the camera was still ON, so quickly composed and shot this. I really liked how the light was just enough to light them but leave everything else dark...

Yes, I did get some nice regular carnival shots, but thought of posting something different...

Thanks, have a fantastic weekend.

I believe this would be known (at least in my mind) as 'd.rex blue' :P

Here's why

(Day 168)

June 17, 2015: 168/365 (2725/2992)- Grandchildren are home for a few days to visit; Hendrix is doing a great job of continuing to capture Grandma's heart!

ahhh, but the sad situation is quickly remedied when odin discovers that his after bath blanket has been warmed!

thanks to a tip from grandparents, we discovered babies really like a snuggly blanket warmed for a minute in the microwave.

anything that makes the frowny face disappear is fine by me!

After a busy day at work and a nightmare journey home this was all I could muster up. It's one more day ticked off though!

BLOOMSDAY: DAWN... "Mr Leopold Bloom ate with relish the inner organs of beasts and fowls. He liked thick giblet soup, nutty gizzards, a stuffed roast heart, liver slices fried with crustcrumbs, fried hencod's roes. Most of all he liked grilled mutton kidneys which gave to his palate a fine tang f faintly scented urine..."

I stayed up all night last night. I slept about 40 minutes. The project I was working on isn't due until tomorrow, but I get really stressed out trying to do something the night before. It's weird. I would have had enough time and I would have been this tired tomorrow, but I would have been in far worse spirits. I guess I don't like time pressure? Anyways, I can go to sleep now and know that my project is ready to be turned in tomorrow :)

So, as usual, I met Sofia for coffee and crepes this morning (we have gotten in the habit of getting breakfast every tuesday). Today her friend Jacinto came along. He's too hilarious. He doesn't speak any English, but he loves making fun of how Americans talk. It's quite entertaining. I just turn around and make fun of how the Murcians (like him) talk. He coincidentally wanted to spend the day studying at Espinardo, so he gave me a ride there! It was awesome. I went to class (lame and pointless). At 2pm, I met for lunch with my friend Carmen. She just found out she's studying in the US next year so she wanted to practice English with me. It was very cute / fun. Then we went to class and worked on our drawings. From class, I went to the Psychology building to finish an evaluation for a group project. Afterwards, Jacinto picked me up and drove me back to Murcia (yeah! I got out of taking the bus both ways!) Then we met up with Sofia and we walked to Madre de Dios where a large group of us got dinner together. Our friend, Sarah's parents are in town so we all went out to eat to celebrate. Then I left early so I could put some final touches on my sociology project and NOW I'M OFF TO BED.

I got a splinter this afternoon. I didn't have tweezers. Stupid piece of wood.

Day 168/365 - "The Images Annual"

Ok , so I was going to shot some landscape shot that day, nothing was good and scenic enough to become picture of the day until sun gone down :).

I was waiting on that bridge for another 20 min until lights turned on and I think it was worth it.
