Sky#project365 day154

It's Wednesday, so that means shopping day at Sprouts! Fresh produce, ah, it's so satisfying. When I got home to unload my groceries there was a small band of sunlight streaming onto my kitchen table so I worked quickly to take advantage of the situation. I got a few shots and then the light was gone. This shot required a little more editing than I was hoping for but I like the end low key painterly result.

ODC - complicated (editing)

bringing this back around because i *really* should be wrapping ~grin~

Thanks so much - wishing you all a great Wednesday :-)

There is something rejuvenating and peaceful about being alone and having some time to reflect, work, or simply enjoy the quiet.

Whether it’s ten minutes of meditation or yoga, spending a little time in nature, or locking the bathroom door and taking a ten-minute bath, quiet time to yourself is a vital part of your life. Like spending time alone, it helps to balance the noise and confusion that infiltrate much of the day.

Have a peaceful and productive day dear friends! Be safe always! :)

Dimly lit on a drizzly day - Bearded Iris 'Immortality'

A vigorous Iris with delicately ruffled, pure-white blooms with lemon-yellow beards. Blooms in late spring.

And it's back to the coloured pencils!

My first electric guitar ('87 Squier Strat). I've had it since I was 16 and it's been much abused and 'customised' over the years, but I still regularly use it. And it still sounds better than other guitars which cost ten times as much.

Excuse the 'serious' pose. I'm trying to ignore the pounding hangover... lol.

The sheep are settling into the long grass very well. This is my first choice for today... but perhaps you prefer the landscape alternative shot?

For the first time since I started this project, I really struggled with what to do with tonight's picture.

I'm going to blame it on a tiring day, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out in the end.

Another view from Blackfriars Road. I like these stairs but I don't think I've ever climbed them to see where they lead to.

The smoker emerged from the adjacent building just as I was getting my camera out to take this shot.

The look of panic on my face is due to the snow suddenly getting much worse, and me knowing that my camera is not exactly weather-proof! Hence this is rushed, and not really what I was after... :)

Lighting: 430EX to camera left lighting subject, 580EXII (with blue gel) to right and rear lighting a bit of the background. Fired with ST-E2.

Sofra for dinner Shepherds Market Mayfair

This is one of the more stupid photographs I've taken. Not the fact there are wellies discarded in a river. That's quite normal, or normal for me at any rate. The stupidity comes in when you discover that in order to take this shot, I had to stand in the river in just my socks, with my work trousers rolled up to the knee.

Its the end of the road for these rubber companions, with one of them having recently sprung a leak. I thought I'd mark the event with this shot and arrived at the Gelt to do so. Only at this point did I think what an amazing idea it would have been to have bought new wellington boots first. Still, I had no other ideas so they came off and I stood getting very cold and wet feet. Why I didn't take my socks off at least is another sore point I am chastising myself with.

After a few frames I looked up to see some slightly puzzled passers by watching me. I think the half embarrassed, half manic smile I gave them was entirely fitting, if unconsciously done.

June 3rd. Back at work today after a lovely weekend of excess! Slightly jaded but hey ho. We're off out again tonight to see Eddie Izzard at the Eden project so I wanted to get this in. I love these aquilegias which self seed all over the garden and I was really chuffed to catch the little bug !

im still stuck in bed unable to move. this photo took a loooooooooooot of effort and pain but i needed to force myself to do something and going out isnt an option

Lately, I've been writing more than I ever have before. I started writing when I was four. My first story was about a trip three of my friends and I made into outer space [I would LOVE to go]. I fondly remember the detailed descriptions of moon juice and asteroid cakes.

Now it seems as if writing has taken over my life. I knock out a short story of about six pages in twenty minutes. I've never been this inspired in my life. I could write until the end of the world. It is about time I did a super writing inspired shot.

In the area around the South New Brighton bridge (Bridge Street) where the Avon River meets the Avon-Heathcote Estuary are hundreds of Black Swans (Cygnus atratus). This shot is in the estuarine part of the Avon River, about 400m up from the bridge which could not be seen in the fog.

Things feel like they are in disarray, which disturbs me. I'm a control freak (usually) and like things to have a certain order. When things are things are out of order, it's reflected in my day to day tasks. I'm going to try my best to get ahold of this before it takes my sanity too.

20180603_1170_7D2-135 Broken (154/365)

Many years ago when I worked in a camera store and film was king, I would often head out at lunchtime with a camera. I used a Leica M3 for black and white work and a Pentax Spotmatic II for colour.

In winter time I tended to shoot more black and white owing to the starkness of the bare trees and the general lack of colour. I often used Kodak Tri-X and now, every now and again I try and replicate those winter images with a Tri-x type look.

This lamp is not that old, having been put at the intersection of New Brighton Road and Dunair Drive when the subdivision was built about 30-40 years ago. It again is one area that was "red-zoned" after the earthquakes and there are no houses nearby now.

Red: Dude, that is high...

Orange: Well, it is supposed to be high.

Red: ... and there is water down there.

Orange: Would you rather have an empty pool?

Red: I guess the water isn't that bad...

Orange: Ready?

Red: Don't you want to go first?
