Easter tells us that life is to be interpreted not simply in terms of things but in terms of ideals. ~Charles M. Crow
In whatever you do or where ever you may be, have a happy day dear friends ! :)

Sunlight cutting through the shadow on a granite staircase at Fort Popham, a Civil War-era coastal defense fortification at the mouth of the Kennebec River in Phippsburg, Maine.

Not home for the next few days so I am posting where I am. Today I was in Phippsburg, Maine. Also I have no post-processing at my disposal, so this one is straight out of the camera, in case anyone out there is curious in the image quality of this point and shoot -- the pros outweigh the cons by a long shot.
Very common woodpecker in the Davis Mountains of West Texas where I live.
For my ongoing bird-a-day project for 2017. Thanks all.
but I couldn't get him to blow on it. I got the idea from
Sara when she did a wonderful "Cliche Sataurday" shot.

+ 3 in the comments that show the sun setting (sort of) :)
I know that I said no more sunset photos but hey ho. I like the sun. The past few days have been just perfect, the next few shall be just the same.
Happy Birthday to Jade and to Beth. I wish you both the most beautiful days and hope that all your wishes came true.

Feeding time! Adult male feeding young male.
For my ongoing bird-a-day project for 2017. Thanks all.
After the torrential rains, we all rushed outside to enjoy the few hours of non-rain before the next round. :) Pie has claimed the new stepping stone as her own. :)
If you are curious about all this rain I keep mentioning, do a search for central Texas flooding. We are OK but had a few scary moments. Others near us, not so much.
All gardens big or small need plenty of TLC, it doesn't look like we've been gardening today but moments before this photo was taken the place was upside down and the area was covered in dead tree branches from the Wolsey Street trees, here we were snapping up to scatter around the garden beds, this is the last task of the day and the weekend, it saves on buying bark and the plants love it.
20180524_0618_7D2-100 Leaf Hopper (144/365)
While photographing a punga fern frond that was going to be my subject for this week's Macro Monday, I found this little leaf hopper on the underside.
Siphanta acuta is a plant-feeding insect. Originally from Australia, this species has spread to New Zealand (and possibly other countries) with the unintentional help of man. They are about 15 mm long and they resemble small leaves and are generally found in trees. Their wings are triangular, and the back edge and corners of their wings are lined with red dots.

I wanna be a superhero that rides a fast kick ass motorcycle and hides his identity behind a darkened helmet visor. And I want to blow up the bad guy at the end by pushing the button on a remote controlled detonator. Then I want to ride away into the sunset.
Camera porn, baby.
Ah, I simply hate that scratch on the film. Damn.
Um, I don't remember taking this in 2009... Flickr is tricking you, peeps!

So, Monday I went to the US. And by Friday 11am I was back at my desk, rather jetlagged, in Brisbane. Seattle was beautiful, and I met two great Flickr mates. Not a lot of energy today for photos, but did a poor impersonation of G by pointing my camera out of a plane window to take a picture.
Now I'll be back in flickr mode catching up on my contact stream. I appreciate the effort of all my contacts in looking at my photos while I've been away and not able to return the favour.
Raindrops are fallin' on my head
And just like the guy whose feet are too big for his bed
Nothin' seems to fit
Those raindrops are fallin' on my head, they keep fallin'
....so I thought I would play with the bubble wand that www.flickr.com/photos/blue72 sent me while waiting for the cable guy.
So if any of you are following my stress issues regarding my internet problems with Time Warner, let me tell you.... here I am sitting with my thumb up my ass again. I left work early to come home and meet the cable/internet man at my house. My appointment was between 3-5. He showed up at 4 to tell me he came at 1 and I wasn't here. No shit. I was at work. Anyway, the guy was supposed to bring me a new/replacement for my wireless modem for my wireless laptop. He shows up with a modem that I have to plug into. He tells me he doesn't have wireless modems and now I have to go out and buy a router. Like I know what to do with that? MY modem is in the closet. So they tell me to go plug my wireless laptop into the non-wireless modem and sit in my closet to get online. WTF! Seriously. How do people do business this way? How does customer service deal with their customers like this and get away with it. I am far from stupid, but that doesn't mean I know tons of crap about computers, etc. Ugh. So, now I have a third appointment set up on June 2, because that is the next time they can come out to deal with me....and remind me... why am I paying $194 bucks a month for this?
Sorry about that. Just needed to vent.
The light was genuinely golden during the golden hour. Which makes a change from grey hour. Or grey 24 hours as it usually is. I think the biggest worry about my 365 is getting another summer like last year, with endless cloud, rain and gloom. 2011 was usually that awkward temperature too, where you're too cold without a coat and too hot with one one.
Throughout the day it has been just such a grey affair, until the sun came out just as it was setting. Worse than just the greyness is the 'toupee effect'. This is really common where I live - and means that everywhere on the horizon you can see blue sky and white cloud, but plonked on top is a giant disc of black cloud. Days can go by and you always have the feeling that 20 minutes in any direction and everyone's wearing sunnies and shorts.
Just like a pom/limey to moan about the weather after posting a shot of lovely warm golden sun isn't it...

Copycatting this image by our wonderful Randy Mick. And a Happy Sliders Sunday to all as well!
Old photo of Burrard Inlet -- cloned out the container ships and sailboats. Used the "warp" function of "transform" to mimic Randy's fisheye effect.
Arranged "desk" elements on the dining room table and did the old 10-second timer run.
Borrowed a big old desk from the Internet. Used the "skew" function of "transform" to get it into the right angle. Erased portions of the dining room table so it fit as the desk top.
Borrowed something called an "inflatable individual fishing belly boat" (I swear I'm not making that up) for the pontoon. Erased everything except one pontoon, chopped it in half, moved the halves apart, and filled in the middle (I needed it longer). Duplicated the layer, used transform to make it smaller for the back pontoon. Submerged them both by erasing at 50%.
Burned a bit of a shadow on the water layer.
Hmmm...I think that's about it.

I had to use this one because we are both doing the arm's length thing and looking at our own cameras :)
Our first day in DC, we got to meet up with MikeB and his lovely wife Nicole at Capitol City Brewing. And then of course, had to do some photos in front of Union Station and the faux liberty bell.
May 24th. Unnatural materials in a very natural environment. Also does for fence Friday. Not as elegant as Dr Ewan's today. HFF!
Inspiration still low but it's Friday before half term, I've got some days off next week and we're out for a fish and chip supper with the kids later.
Our Daily Challenge - Launch

Trying out a little low level flying.
I tried to get this old body at right angles but only managed to nearly strangle my self.
So this is it - launching at Friday like NASA.

Maybe this is why I never was a good player?

(I am so uncool this week (for TACWD&D) ...I don't have Photoshop to do all those cool tricks, nor do I have the space on my laptop to install it.)
