Taken for photochallenge 2009, day141:chain

Was out of time to search for anything more serious, yesterday was extremely hectic day. 'But here are two types of chains I managed to capture literally in seconds running by.

Blah

This morning I came downstairs and greeted our boy Tyson (I'm always the first one down) and it hit me again: she's gone. Today was a series of those moments for me, but more for Pete, who has taken the dogs out three times a day almost every day and has routines with them. Pete, who last night automatically took two treats downstairs at bedtime, only to have to put one back away. He walks around so so sad. Our neighbor told us to take her whole pot of pansies, so Pete planted them today. More tears.

I have to keep busy. I got a good distraction today when an old friend hooked me up with a friend of his. She is an owner of a cafe in Philadelphia who needed someone to step in quickly when her line-up for June art fell through. We spoke and she looked at my work online and said yes. So I have a show going up for the month of June at this awesome cafe in Philadelphia! The timing couldn't have been better, and I have lots of work framed and ready to go so the short notice wasn't a big issue.

This will give me something to obsess about and focus on for a few weeks.

I have no idea what is up with the coloring.

This involved no photoshop, no processing, no nothing.

I did put a new lightbulb in my bathroom today.

But even so.... every photo I took today came out really strange in regard to the coloring.

My hair has a shocking orange/red glow to it.

I DID NOT change any settings on my camera.

Any ideas?

(and yes, I cropped out my boobs)

So anyway, I spent most of today waiting around for the cable guy to come and fix my internet service. Needless to say, after waiting ( and already knowing it was my modem---and telling them on the phone I needed a new modem) ... he shows up, yup, you guessed it...without a modem. So I basically sat around with my thumb up my ass for far too many hours to be told something I already knew and then to be told, the warehouse is out of them....so why the hell would they send him out? ... and then he leaves. I get a call that they are sending over someone else yesterday to come and fix it.... between 12-2 ( i already sat around from 8-12)...so there I am sitting around with my thumb up my ass ( again). 2:00 comes and goes and I call them and they say they are running late. 4:00 comes and the guy shows up ( meanwhile, i was taking photos for my 365 in the bathroom). He shoes up WITHOUT a modem and confirms ( again) that my modem is dead. Are you freaking kidding me? I sat there with my thumb in my ass ( aw, shadap ) from 8-4 to wait on 2 jack asses to be told something I already knew and the issue is still not resolved.

...

so if anyone wants to join me, I will be here Wednesday from 3-5 with my thumb up my ass waiting again.

I have a feeling I am going to spend lots of time in my bathroom this week taking photos. I like the contrast of these colors compared to the rest of my set. We shall see what comes of it. Reminds me of Wonder Woman.

Saw Fran Jerry and Chris play tonight at the Steaming Cup. Was joined by Jay, Alisha, Spike, and Jess. Superfun time. I drank and amazing Irish Raspberry Mocha smoothie and now I'm feeling phlegmy fromthe dairy...oh well. It was worth it.

~Charles de Montesquieu on humility quotes (French Politician and Philosopher, 1689-1755)

What makes humility so desirable is the remarkable thing it does to us; it gives us the ability to be close and worship God. Have a blessed Holy Wednesday!

TGIF!! woo hoo.. this week felt like forever!

The hills are certainly alive in East Grinstead

Bike next to the River Ancholme near Brigg

Another day when I had no photo in mind. A pretty desperate shot of my colourful drinking straws!

What do you all think of the new Flickr layout?

Saw this out the kitchen window during bedtime snacks for kids. Slapped the macro lens on, ran outside, did the old "hold your breath and pray" handheld thing (too lazy/busy/rushed to grab my tripod out of the trunk (or boot) of my car), and hoped for the best.

Not the best, but it'll do on a busy day.

Thanks again for your comments re: the meet-up with Rod and Steven. They are both REALLY great guys and I hope we can somehow figure out a way to hook up again (the Pacific is big, but we have the technology and fossil fuels), perhaps with some of the rest of you guys in a big ol' 365 Flickr Flock Extravaganza Deluxe-o-Matic or something.

These beautiful birds nest in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Mexico and a small portion of California. The male is a gorgeous red. This one just took a bath in our bird bath.

(The hepatic tanager is a medium-sized American songbird. Formerly placed in the tanager family, it and other members of its genus are now classified in the cardinal family.)

For my ongoing bird-a-day project for 2017. Thanks all!

and yes, I will take any opportunity I can get to take a Silent Hill 2 related photo 😆

Today's rain was the inspiration to finally try water drop photography.

I am SERIOUSLY ordering a remote tonight!

an unexpected perk of this new lens is the fact that my kiddos can see themselves in it -- they almost can't look away!

Mist on the Meadow

In our ongoing attempt to be as anti-social as possible and thereby, in the current climate, appear to be responsible citizens adhering to social-distancing, viz. we're trying to avoid people, we took our walk early today. Very early.

Leaving home at 03:30hrs, we saw the sun rise beyond the bridges, mist billowing across the Medway, and then crossing the meadow by Starkeys, this. Taken at 05:22hrs.

Then it was up through Starkeys, up through Ivy Cottage to the North Downs Way, through Shoulder of Mutton Wood, down Nashenden Down, through Monks Wood and down to Stoney Lane, back to Nashenden Farm, up the North Downs Way, back through Shoulder of Mutton, down to Ivy Cottage, Starkeys, across the meadow and to the river, bridges and home (08:30ish). Showers, big brekkie, and coffee. Yay!

Galium odoratum, the sweetscented bedstraw, is a flowering perennial plant in the family Rubiaceae, native to much of Europe from Spain and Ireland to Russia, as well as Western Siberia, Turkey, Iran, the Caucasus, China and Japan. It is also sparingly naturalized in scattered locations in the United States and Canada. It is widely cultivated for its flowers and its sweet-smelling foliage.

I can't think of a story for this photo... Maybe it's worth saying that it was supposed to be a photo of her plait highlighted with the window's light, but then she had one of those days.

Once again, we've got plenty on our plates and I may actually come to the point to share our little challenges right here, on flickr. I find sharing 'troubles' or 'challenges' so much easier and more bearable when I just talk, share, let it out. Rather than keeping them buried deep inside, it's a great relief to share with others and learn their point of view, their advice, or any kind of reaction.... I think extroverts have it easy (or easier).

Day 141 - Frohe Weihnachten

Hohoho... when I have to wrap presents, it normally never works the way it is supposed to work - I look so goofy in this shot and feel a bit like a christmas elf... don't ask me why... it is probably the hat ;o)

I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a couple of nice days. Here in Germany we celebrate Christmas Eve and not Christmas morning, so I sign off for today and get back to you all tomorrow morning or later this night.

Loving the morning - it really gives me an opportunity to take in Creation!

Some of you have expressed that you're not quite the early risers. Well, I wanted to share not only the sights of morning, but the sounds of dawn can be quite fantastic (what can I say, I'm a giver). So I added a couple outtake videos - really for the audio as video quality is less then meh...
