Quick hand made data visualization in a sketchnotes to illustrate the results of a poll. A majority of my colleagues, 4 on 10, would prefer a week with a balance between working from home and working in the office.

I've been to SXSW for 5 years (and attended in spirit via the interwebs for a couple of years more).

The Sprinklr VIP penthouse party this past Sunday was definitely one of the highlights of my overall SXSW experience.

Great people, great food, great conversations. It was a great night.

It was especially rewarding to see the Command Center + data viz solution we've been working on for quite some time rendering beautifully on every screen within our awesome new office in Austin TX.

Hope everyone had a great time and that we see you there again next year!

ps. Thanks for the photos Kris Krüg.

Using data from the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Unified Crime Report, this data exploration tool visualizes the gun murders that took place in 2010, the most recent year for which data is available.

The Unified Crimes Report includes voluntarily-reported data from police precincts across the country, and represents more than 285 million U.S. inhabitants—94.6% of the total population, containing details of each person who was killed, including their age, gender, race, relationship to killer, and more.

What the data set does not contain is an assessment of the potential life that was stolen from these individuals as a result of their murder.

To calculate that, we used the World Health Organization’s UNSD Demographic Statistics, and performed an age prediction weighted according to the age distribution of U.S. deaths, paired with a likely cause of death at that age.

Thank you to Jerome Cukier for researching and sharing this dataset with us, and to the FBI Multimedia Productions group for responding quickly to our questions.

This month we shone the spot light on Graph Gists - a cool tool for creating one page documents that describe and model your domain in a live Neo4j graph.

David Johnson, a participant in the recent winter competition showed us some of his graph gists and we looked over some other ones and even created our own one.
