IDIA has been commissioned to design and build a virtual presence and artworks for the upcoming Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum at Michigan State University. The physical Museum in East Lansing Michigan, designed by architect Zaha Hadid, is slated to finish construction in Fall 2012. Museum Director, Michael Rush commissioned Fillwalk and the IDIA to envision and create a dynamic program of artworks for the Virtual Broad Art Museum project (VBAM). Fillwalk’s works in collaboration with IDIA designers will be exhibited in the inaugural premiere of the projecton March 15th, 2012. Fillwalk and IDIA were invited by guest curator Adam Brown, MSU to work with the Broad Museum to design the virtual facility and artworks. IDIA is developing the project in the game engine of Unity 3D, which allows for the virtual artworks to be experienced entirely within a web browser.

“Engaging visitors with innovators at the leading edge of art and technology, both here at MSU and around the globe, is key to the Broad Art Museum’s mission,” said founding director Michael Rush. “With the Virtual Broad Art Museum, we have an opportunity to embrace the tremendous creative and connective possibilities that exist in the digital world.”

The mixed world reception will take place on Thursday, March 15th 2012 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm EST simultaneously on the campus of Michigan State University and in the VBAM virtual worlds.

„Digitalisierung – die neue Gefahr für die Demokratie!?“. Zu dieser Leitfrage veranstaltete die Initiative D21 die Fachkonferenz „Data & Politics Vol. 2“ am 24. Zahlreiche Expertinnen und Experten aus Zivilgesellschaft und dem politischen Bereich diskutierten über aktuelle Entwicklungen, Chancen und Gefahren.

Peter Harris is an elusive figure suspected to have been born in Salt Lake City, Utah. He learned to ski at a very young age, since both of his parents were skiing gurus. Frustrated with the creative and intellectual constraints of high school, he dropped out and proceeded to roam the world on his skis, producing art inspired by the things he encountered. In his early career, before his art became lucrative, he often made the small amount of money he needed to survive by painting houses, although many people objected to the artistic expression he applied to these jobs. Many of his photographs and drawings were published under a pseudonym (as he preferred to maintain his anonymity). This artist has long remained faceless, quietly contributing to American art, and occasionally, scholarly publications.

Recently, there was a slip in information, and unnamed sources have disclosed that the mysterious "Peter Harris" can by identified by a certain green hat he always wears. Ever since this information was released to the public, a photographic manhunt has been underway. The facebook group dedicated to capturing this elusive personage on camera can be located here.

This is the tutorial that finished two hours early...

I'm a data geek (no, sh!+, really?) and I *love* going through the metadata section of Lightroom.

I can't wait until ALL my photos are geo-tagged when I take 'em. Being able to do a mash-up and pull pictures from location would KICK ASS.

Prompted in part by a story about a data-mining outfit suing over Utah's proposed restrictions on selling information gleaned from spy cameras that record license numbers. The claim? The restrictions violate the company's right to free speech, specifically the right to disseminate the information. You can follow the internal logic at the same time you bemoan the abandonment of common sense and appreciate the Law of Unintended (?) Consequences.

Peter Harris was born February 10, 1989 in Sacramento, California. Even at a young age, Peter was a fearless explorer. While at the beach with his parents, he and his friends would venture far from the shore, often to the dismay of his parents. His fearless spirit went on into high school, where he often went with friends in search of the Blue Volcanoes, a popular location for electro festivals. Sadly, Minnesota does not have anything like the Blue Volcanoes, but Peter hopes to at least make a electro dent in the music culture at St. Olaf.

We live in a economic reality where products are no longer sold, but rather are given away for Free or nearly free.

This is a nice start, but I suspect this graph is based on a very small sample of the Twitter social network. I spent last week crawling Twitter to create a graph of the social network, and I what I got is very different. I started off graphing friends, but it was so dense that I moved on to mutual friends who have both posted within a given time period (e.g., a day), and it's still so dense that it's almost impossible to tease apart. The only interesting thing to report so far is clusters by language. The biggest cluster is English and the second biggest is Japanese. Actually, something else that is very interesting is that ranking Twits by number of mutual friends gives a completely different top Twits list than ranking by simply total # of friends.
