This map represents the accumulation of data gathered during overflights on March 9th, 2012. Therefore it shows not a permanent situation but a moment in time.
The data gathered has been filtered for grid noise and simulator crossing anomalies, which, when compared to other research flight results, were not significantly different.
The phenomena measured show up as clouds of dark spots. These are areas of heightened energetic activity which could lead to inexplicable events and / or observations on the ground. Of note is the large, almost triangular formation in Rodeo, around Phyneas Jack's Lookout (marked +PL). Data seems to indicate an interaction between the points of the triangle. Unclear is how and why this occurs.
The phenomena measured in Cowell and between Rodeo and Stinson are different in nature: there is no interaction, but the energy is more likely to interfere with life in the region due to it's frequency being more in tune with that of the grid itself.
We recommend further investigation of the measured phenomena, with precedence given to the areas in Cowell and between Rodeo and Stinson, as these immediately affect the public safety.

Yesterday Richard Florida posted a summary of a study saying that 40% of connected pairs of Twitter users are less than 10km apart. In a larger sample of 13,590,092 geotagged replies, I am seeing a somewhat smaller 33% of tweets replying to someone at a distance of less than 10km, and that the closest 40% are less than 16km apart instead. Still, the total frequency of communication within a given radius is pretty clearly proportional to the log of the radius.

capacitive body II
Capacitive body is a modular light system that reacts to the sound of urban spaces. Each custom built module consists of a piezoelectric sensor, a high bright electroluminescent wire and a microcontroller. The sensor is used to measure the vibration of a solid body. This data is transformed to the luminance of the wire.
Modules of the system will be installed at LEAP and outside on the street. One module will be attached to each side of the glass shell, whose vibrations are triggered by the traffic noise of its environment. With the electroluminescent wires a new dynamic space will be built inside the rigid body. In this setup the sensor data is used to trigger the on/off rhythm of each light wire. Thereby a visual feedback of the aural activity of the LEAP’s environment is given to the observer of the system.

As a systems engineer, I am all too familiar with data loss that can occur without back up redundancy for large data storage devices (we call it fault tolerance in the field). I do have an action plan in place (will share in a moment).
I have all my digital images (as well as documents, iTunes audio and video, etc.) stored on 40, 100,160, 180, 500 (all GB portable drives), and a 1TB portable drive (that crashed!), most recently purchased 2TB portable drive (all full except the 2TB drive).
What I do with the data after storing 80GB on the portable drives, is back the data up on DVD-R disks. It does take time to burn 80GB on DVD-R discs, but the peace of mind obtained by that effort is well worth it.
When that 1TB drive crashed - after expressing some initial expletive deleted words, I was calmed by the fact I had all the files backed up on disks.
