Here is a quick 10-second video from the dashcam showing two big lightning strikes one after the other.. Just look towards the roof of the BP services station you will see it about 3-4 seconds into the video, you have to be quick, you don't want to miss out.

Right place right time for the snow fall at Lovell Canyon, Las Vegas NV.

PART 4.

Life on the street can be rough, and when you start terrorizing, robbing and killing innocent civilians, then you can hardly complain when the police come down on you like a ton of bricks: that, after all, is exactly what they are supposed to do!

Cops in general, and Chicago Cops in particular, know all too well that today's criminals are very well armed and are more than willing to use that firepower if that's what it will take to avoid capture. At last count, we have lost 574 Chicago Police Officers in the line of duty, many under very similar circumstances, and on some of the same real estate on the South and West Side of the city.

In both the Cedrick Chapman and the Ronald Johnson cases, the Cook County State's Attorney decided that the officers would not face criminal charges because there is no evidence of criminal wrongdoing. Both of these cases were also reviewed by the U.S. Department of Justice, which reached the same conclusion. So, the "template" is clearly not a template after all, and the Jason Van Dyke case is not the tip of an iceberg, but just a single event in which there is credible evidence of wrongdoing on the part of a Chicago Police Officer.

In addition to the conduct of Officer Van Dyke, the Lawuan McDonald case has raised serious questions about the way various city officials conducted themselves during the year it took them to investigate the incident.

The officers who first encountered a very erratic Laquan McDonald, appear to have done everything right. They followed him on his trek down the middle of Pulaski Road, and repeatedly requested the assistance of a supervisor equipped with a Taser, which would have allowed them to take the offender into custody without serious injuries to him or the officers involved.

I don't know what that supervisor could have been doing that was more important, given the fact that four or five of his cars were tied up as a result of Laquan's road show, but he didn't make it there in time.

Unfortunately for all of us, and for Laquan in particular, instead of the Taser they'd requested, they got Officer Van Dyke, who promptly unloaded an entire clip into Laquan McDonald.

I was not there, but I'm willing to bet that the response of the officers who had managed the incident up to that point, was a very loud, collective "WTF...!"

What's supposed to happen after a police-involved shooting, is that officers notify the dispatcher, request an ambulance, secure the scene, and request a supervisor. After sixteen shots, I don't think there was anything anyone could have done to save Laquan McDonald's life, but procedures must be followed and I have not seen or heard anything to suggest that they deviated from this prescribed protocol.

The first supervisor on the scene is responsible for collecting the firearms of any officers who may have fired their weapon. In this case they may have checked or collected the firearms of all the officers who were present at the time of the shooting, simply to ascertain who had and who had not fired any rounds.

Any officer who had in fact fired his weapon, would then be transported to the appropriate Area Headquarters, where they would be available to investigating Detectives and Command Staff personnel as they pieced together what exactly had in fact happened.

I can only assume that Officer Van Dyke told investigators the same story that would eventually be contradicted so decisively by the dash-cam video. Meanwhile, other officers would have rounded up civilian eye-witnesses, who were then also transported to the same Area HQ. At some point, detectives also retrieved surveillance camera footage from area businesses that might have captured some or all of the incident.

Much has been made in the media of reports that detectives went out of their way to get civilian witnesses to change their account of the shooting. Perhaps so, but we would do well to remember that those detectives had only heard the Jason Van Dyke version of events, and probably figured they were dealing with the type of civilian witnesses who routinely put the actions of any and all police officers in the most unfavorable light possible. Again - according to the media -

these detectives gave up trying to change the testimony of these civilian witnesses after about six hours. That six-hour time-frame might also coincide with the amount of time it took for the initial viewing of the dash-cam video, and the realization that the civilian witnesses were in fact telling the truth.

Speaking of dash-cam videos, there has also been lots of speculation that Chicago Police Officers sabotaged their dash-cam video recorders to destroy evidence of police wrongdoing in this and other incidents. I am nut familiar with the nuts and bolts of the dash-cam video system, since this program was still in its infancy when I was disabled back in 1997.

In 1995, we had a single car in the 12th District that was equipped with a prototype dash-cam, and the officer who worked that car on the Day Watch was routinely parked next to an adult video store, and he used the equipment to watch porn flicks all day long. That particular officer had other issues as well, and was subsequently fired.

Nevertheless, the reason so few squad cars at both the Laquan McDonald and the Ronald Johnson shootings provided usable video footage, is probably far less sinister than has been suggested by the movement and their partners in the media.

Currently, dash-cam video systems are installed only in marked squad cars. In those vehicles, the system is supposed to turn itself on automatically wheever the officers working that car activate their emergency equipment. When these officers turn their overhead lights off, the video system automatically shuts itself off after a few minutes.

Many, if not most of the calls officers respond to, do not require the activation of their emergency equipment. Some calls, like a "man shot" or a "battery in progress" mandate that officers get there as quickly as possible, and will therefore require the activation of their emergency equipment, as we saw at the beginning of the Laquan McDonald video, as the squad car that ultimately recorded the definitive footage, fought its way through traffic.

Other hi-priority calls, like a "burglary in progress" demand a more stealthy approach, in order to catch the offender in the act. Whatever awaits those officers when they reach their destination will almost certainly never show up on any dash-cam video for the simple reason that the system never turned itself on. Likewise, when officers are flagged down by a citizen, or when they unexpectedly come upon a situation that requires immediate police action. You can literally be driving down the street one second, and find yourself in a foot pursuit the next, without an opportunity to notify your dispatcher, let alone turn on your overhead lights.

Questions have also been raised about the lack of audio with any of the videos that were in fact recovered by investigators. Is that because those systems were in fact tampered with, or simply a reflection of the poor state of repair of the City's fleet of police vehicles?

When I go into the City these days, I see squad cars that are eight or ten years old. Things were bad in my day, but, according to other dinosaurs who are still on the job, they have gotten considerably worse.

Chicago Police Officers will drive anywhere to get their man: on the sidewalk, over curbs, endless pot-holes, through flooded viaducts, park meadows, and so on. Our squad cars take a lot of abuse, and they do not go home with the officer at the end of his shift to rest up for the following day. No, they are operated around the clock on three shifts, every day of the year.

I've had squad cars combust spontaneously, had tie-rods go bust while driving, and I've seen one squad car lose its rear axle twice in as many weeks.

Whenever there's a significant power-train issue, that squad car will need to go to one of several area garages for repairs. Those officers will then be issued a pool car.

In my experience, pool cars are a nightmare. Yes, they are supposedly okay on paper, but they are virtually guaranteed to be slow, smelly, smoky and noisy. With more than 100,000 hard-fought miles on the odometer, that pool car's next catastrophic system failure is always imminent, while ancillary systems such as heating and cooling, not to mention the dash-cam system, are virtually guaranteed to have problems of one kind or another.

I'm quite certain that any officers who would have told their Watch Commander that they'd be down in the station because the dash-cam on their squad car wasn't working properly, would have gotten a swift kick in the ass during the Pre-McDonald era. All that has changed since then, is that now the Department will not allow a vehicle to go out on patrol unless its dash-cam system is working properly, or so they say.

We were on our way driving along Abercrombie Rd when all of a sudden a Kangaroo jumped onto the road and started hopping along, on the road right next to us, you can see it hopping like crazy to get away. Thank goodness it didn't jump rigth in front of us. It was all caught on our dash cam, We also saw a lot of Wallabies along the side of the road as well This is a silent video.I hope you like it.

Artist's Drive is the most popular scenic drive in Death Valley National Park. This nine mile (14.5 km) one-way road winds through multicolored, eroded hills. You can enjoy the beauty of the park without having to leave the comfort of your car, a blessing in the summer when temperatures can rise as high as 134 degrees F.

Oh my -- as an observation, you can really see the tumors on my arm at the end of this video... NF1 sucks. ;-)

The nature of the dash cam is that license plates are very difficult to read. As a general rule, if I see something stupid or have a gut feeling that something stupid is about to happen, I say the license plate out loud. Though in this case, it's easier to see it on the original photo.

Driving on 64, we were cut off by a white SUV LOVEE who wanted to make the exit as well.

Driving through Washington Pass on Highway 20 is an experience that highlights the beauty and challenges of the North Cascades. Construction of Highway 20, also known as the North Cascades Highway, is a fascinating story of engineering and perseverance. The steep, rugged terrain posed significant challenges for construction crews. Harsh weather, including heavy snowfall and avalanches, made construction difficult and dangerous. Efforts were made to minimize the environmental impact on the pristine wilderness of the North Cascades National Park.

Highway 20 was completed and opened to the public in 1972, providing a crucial link through these rugged mountains. It is often closed during winter months due to heavy snowfall and reopens in the spring.

I used both of my dash cams for this video... a rear-facing Garmin 20 and a forward-facing Garmin 65W (if you were interested in the difference between the two). The forward-facing camera has a larger field of view. Both have GPS and speed built in which makes me feel better. Both run $250 on Amazon and they're hard wired into my electrical system.

Parts of this video are sped up 8x and one clip has audio (to show that Waze was working and gave two "police ahead" warnings. I thought I was being pulled over at first and was thankful he passed me. ;-)

This video starts with a silver Chrysler pulling from my lane into the passing lane. He passes me and then disappears up the road. Judging by my speed, he must have been going 75 or 80.

I've seen dozens of Tesla Model S and many Tesla Model X vehicles, but this is the first Tesla 3. Of course, they just did start selling them.

After we crossed the drawbridge, my cousin and I didn't even know we were next to the President's compound as we made a left onto the scenic highway. Not until we got back to Virginia the next day. And only because I casually wondered where the property was because I figured we had been near it. Too cool!

On this day, 14 November 2017, 0852h, at Gymea. (time on video is winter time).

For a while the pedestrian on the footpath had his mouth wide open, waiting for the crash. Fortunately, the driver in the red car realized the predicament he/she was in and didn't slow down. So, only a tire screech, no crash! :)

The entire return trip home was overcast with short bursts of rain. This was the first. I could see it in the distance, so I put Waze in the background and started recording as the rain hit.

This is the worst intersection in our suburb and, despite many complaints to authorities, especially after a fatal accident in November last year, nothing has been done to improve the situation. Bad timing of lights (there are two other set of lights just after the left turn) and impatient drivers add to the daily chaos.

I am sure the driver in that blue car ahead of me (not sure whether he/she wanted to go straight ahead or turn right) was sweating and wondering how long it would take until the ordeal was over.
