What a great UK summer we have had....all 3 days of it! Not been to this location for over a year and as I have seen a few shots pop up over the last 6 months I thought I would revisit and add my own update to an area I started shooting with my first hold of a DSLR.

Best of friends!

I love evenings like this...just wish there was a little more cloud but will not complain!

This location is classed as my thinking spot and many hours have been taken up enjoying the sunsets here.

I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth (Genesis 9:13).

Driving back across the moors and got to Widecombe to see the moon sitting up next to the church. As I also had my tourch I thought it would be rude not to paint some light across the area.

4x exp. 1 for the moon, 1 for the light that was on the church, 1 to paint the stone under the moon (as I done this a car drove by as you can see but I liked the effect) and 1 more to paint across the the wall and lower tree to the right.

Out on a nice night shoot with friend Martin. We only had 1 torch to share so painted light like a disco ninja.

I was chasing this cloud set for over an hour to try and get the right angle and then the sun started to dip to low. To my advantage it lit up the under belly of the cloud directly over the tip of Haytor (Dartmoor). Running around trying to get the shot just right sometimes has its rewards. If zoomed in there is also someone stood on the highest right side tip which added to the effect but I wanted to zoom out and get the yellow/purple/green colours.

After a bit of a dodgy drive through frsh snow filled lanes and valleys I made it to Brentor for sunrise and in between the snow showers managed to capture a few images as the sun rose.

Perfect evening on Dartmoor as the sun starts to drop in the sky casting its last rays of light over the marshy ,boggy grasses and lights up the rocks.

Please double click or press L for the best view :)

This is a strange shot for me as even though I like the outcome, at the time I was very..... without swearing annoyed with myself as I had just climbed a few rocks to get a different shot and my phone had fallen from my pocket and smashed. So this was shot in anger....I have now purchased a few more phones to take and drop as I like the results!

Quote from the great Bruce Lee - Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless — like water. Now you put water in a cup, it becomes the cup; You put water into a bottle it becomes the bottle; You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.

Beautiful view over Dartmoor shot thanks to my loooong ladder ;)

This image came out with to much green for my liking so I thought I would try and make the grass and leaves a more grey effect to match the feel of the scene with the old barn and skull. Hope you enjoy my strange image :-)

Walking down to a known spot to see if the blue bells had fully come through but no joy. It was such a nice day I thought I would get a few shots in and this zig zag of a wall up to the trees and barn caught my eye. Hope you enjoy.

Been waiting for a good sunset over this new area I have come across. I love the way that the tree is the only one up here growing out of the rocks. To the right is a very deep and long valley that has a whipping wind across this area in what seems like the same direction showing be the wind swept trees forced direction of growth.

If it was not for the hour I spent digging my front wheels out of the snow and ice I would of classed this as a great half day out in the snow photographing Dartmoor. I need to invest in a 4 wheel drive again I think. One thing I will not moan about is the location to shoot around these snow covered rocks and trees and enjoyed my time here.

I love little locations like this on Dartmoor. I like to look at the rocks here and the effort that must of gone into moving and shaping so many years ago.

Another view of Venford falls Dartmoor. Delightful place to spend a few hours iwth or without a camera. Must go back soon actually

A grey day on Dartmoor looking back towards East mIll tor.

One of those mornings where the light just did not happen But still as always an enjoyable hike and some record shots to come back to later.

Hidden away in a small secluded valley on Dartmoor the wonderful Venford falls.

Such a nice spot to visit and spend a few hours photographing the little river and the falls themselves

0077 Dragan - Dartmoor Zoological Park, close crop - cc welcome

during a hike across the moor taken on East Mill Tor as rain threatens above.

Arrived in the dark with fresh snow on the ground and waiting for the winter sun to rise.

Clear skies for now before the snow and hail came through causing some dramatic skies behind the church

While wild camping near Lower Tor the sunset was just amazing , managed to grab this shot using the flooded boggy moorland as foreground.

Blackingstone Rock is one of the highest tors on Dartmoor - 24 metres from its base to the top. Blackingstone Rock offers a panoramic view of Dartmoor. One of the most eastern Dartmoor tors. Unusual in that it is surrounded by fertile farmland and is easily accessible. There's even a little ladder to help you up to the top!

Taken at the far end of East Mill Tor Dartmoor on a typical moody winters morning.

Mrs long face was not camera shy as I took a good 30 shots of her. A bit of dodge and burn....plus some spot healing on the mess she had left behind her. Not very lady like!

Took a drive to an area of dartmoor I had never been before, think I need to re visit on a more clear day with better weather but liked the mist that was here so took a few shots anyway :)

Chasing Rainbows, Dartmoor, Devon by photographer Helen Duvall

Chasing rainbows is a delightful pastime on Dartmoor. The divine grace of a rainbow captivates the viewer with a silent mistique that can only ever last for a matter of minutes. To catch on camera the spirit of one of these radiant apparitions is always a pleasing achievement, to know that the moment is saved to be enjoyed at oneâs leisure, never to be lost.

A rainbow is a meteorological occurance caused by reflection; refraction and dispersion of light in water droplets to form a spectrum of light in the form of a multicoloured circular arc in the sky. Rainbows caused by sunlight always appear in the section of sky directly opposite the sun. Rainbows can be full circles. However, the viewer usually sees an arc formed by illuminated droplets above the ground, and centered on a line from the sun to the eye of the observer. In a primary rainbow the outer band of the arc is red and the inner band is violet. This rainbow is caused by light being refracted when entering a droplet of wate, then reflected inside on the back of the droplet and refracted again when leaving it. In a double rainbow, a second arc appears outside the primary arc. In the second arc the light is reflected twice on the inside of the droplet before leaving it. The order of colours are therefore reversed, with red on the inner band of the arc.

This tiny church perched on top of rocky outcrop known as Brentor, One of the more prominent features of Dartmoor is this Church of St Michel de Rupe that dates back to the 13th century, and measures 15 feet (4.6 m) wide and 37 feet (11 m) long. The tower is 40 feet (12 m) high[4] and houses five bells. At one point, the Church may have been used as a Beacon tower, used to spread word of enemies seen out to sea.
