Saturation has been pulled aggressively everywhere except the warm tones — sky pushed toward cool monochrome, distant canyon rendered in graphite, foreground stripped of native red. The result is closer to selective color than to a natural rendering. It's a graphic, almost cinematic interpretation. Whether that lands depends on the viewer. Traditionalists will argue the desert at dawn is warm everywhere and that this edit fights the scene's actual color logic. Others will read it as a confident stylistic choice that isolates the arch as the singular subject and refuses the postcard treatment. Both readings are defensible.
Here is a shot from the botanical garden of my university. You might not see the summer in this shot, but it was definitely there. I think in this darker edit, the lily has more of a mystic atmosphere and the yellow centre shines even brighter. What do you think about it?

Composite image of myself and a busted camera lens. I had my husband sit in the same lighting setup and hold the lens to his eye. I used that photograph to composite in photoshop over my eye the lens. I added heavy texture and also an old polaroid frame around the portrait. The polaroid frame does not necessarily match the fact that photo is digital or that the lens is of a digital lens for my Canon 7d, but the frame works together to unite the image. The entire image is about photography. The polaroid frame surrounds me. and the digital lens I see through. It is a part of me. Photography surrounds me and is a part of me.
