Another shot I took last weekend on our circular walk including the fantastic double stone circles of Grey Wether's on Dartmoor. The weather was lovely for most of our day out but as so often I am not very lucky when we reach photogenic spots as almost certainly a large cloud will take away the nice light (Murphy's Law). Then it is most often not pleasant to force the rest of the family to wait 5 min before the sun comes back out again but this time, for Grey Wether's, I could not help it and I had about 2 min of the standing stones lit up by the sun before the next cloud moved in the way. The darker clouds in the background added some nice drama and contrast. We made it back to the car without a drop of rain - happy days!

Witcombe looking across the valley from the South, towards the Iron Age Ramparts. Whitcombe is the site of a Medieval village, signs of which can still be seen on the hillside.
The weather was very changeable when I went out, I took this photograph standing in bright sunshine, a short time after this I was in a heavy shower of rain and hail.
I kept waiting and waiting for the splash after completing most of my other frames, finally the moment arrived and I got my panorama on handheld.

Counting on some photographic opportunities on this day since I've missed out on the past few. I was lucky enough to have one nice storm cell just west of our location.
Caught up with the end of the storm where I knew there would be something good to get... A nice mammatus cluster on the back end of this storm as it exited to the northeast.

A shot from a few weekends ago and a lovely hike around the open moorland of Haytor. Best time of the year for an ocean of purple and yellow from the heather & gorse.
Autumn foliage suddenly thrashes with the wind as warm air encounters cold over a rural Vermont countryside. Amazingly shaped clouds develop and are an indicator of stormy weather to follow.
This was last years find, a fantastic field in Wiltshire.
Not sure if I really like the moody sky, sunflowers belong under sunny skies or a nice sunset. My poppy pictures were all under grey skies too, hoping for better luck next year.
I hope to find sunflowers again this year and I will be starting to look out for them. I have got wind of a field in Dorset with an approximate location I will go and check it out.

It was a typical gray and cloudy day in Zaandam. During my walk there I saw a beautiful circle in the water from a quay in the city center. It was another circle of life and death.

Het was weer eens zo’n typische grijze en druilerige dag in Zaandam. Tijdens mijn wandeling zag ik vanaf een kade in het centrum een prachtige kring in het water nabij de palen. De cirkel van leven en dood.
Not the picture I'd planned for today, but having seen a couple of HFF shots, decided today would be right for this. I took this on my way east on CA-58 about halfway up the first and largest climb, Bakersfield behind me. The "mountain maze" flic.kr/p/ULcNYc shot I've already posted was off to my left from this shot.
Boadicea and Her Daughters is a bronze sculptural group in London, located to the north side of the western end of Westminster Bridge, near Portcullis House and Westminster Pier, facing Big Ben and the Palace of Westminster across the road. It is considered the magnum opus of its sculptor, the English artist and engineer Thomas Thornycroft
I had hoped to get a nice strong sunset at St Monans where I would catch the colour of the setting sun bouncing off the wet sides of the famous breakwater. Unfortunately the sunset was a little weak with a fair bit of cloud on the horizon. In an attempt to get something from the trip I decided to shoot over the pier and catch the colour in the sky and some reflections from the wet surface.
This is not the original image I was going for but I really like the wedge formation formed by the shape of the pier progressing from the lower right hand corner mirrored by the angle of the cloud progressing from the upper right. The top left of the image is empty but like the effect of negative space against the strong detail of the right side of the frame

My friend Lance was kind enough to invite me out on his pontoon boat. Out timing could not have been more perfect. We got out just after the rain and made it back to the dock just as it began to come down again. Thanks Lance! This eagle was making haste to find a good spot to ride out the rough weather. I have not had much luck this summer with sunsets but tonight we finally had a very interesting sky. the white line between the trees near the center is Oneida Lake

It has been an excellent start to the 2016 chase Season. Bonus was, that I had the day off and no commitments except for storm chasing. I was set for an Epic Day!
I ended up with well over 700 pic from this storm chasing event, but I've skimmed it down to about 100+. Truly this will become some of my best severe weather photography to date...
I was seriously late the game on this storm. But I was never out of the game. I had now positioned myself just to the North of Wray Colorado.
Strategically, you want to be to the south east, southwest for the best light... It's all about timing, and I thought it wouldn't produce till it was well west of my location. Giving me that perfect view of the backside rotation of the storm.
In my opinion, I found a perfect view, looking due south southeast. I ended up on the northwest side of the rotation. Dangerous yes...but this will eventually give me one excellent view of this tornado and all her glory.

The last day
Low clouds, wind and thin rain, this is the weather of a day with a somewhat special atmosphere even if melancholy.
All this, on the last day as a resident up here, a painful but necessary choice, before here, the long autumn night swallows me for too many hours and months.
