Auch in Jüterbog war der Dominikaner Johann Tetzel als Ablassprediger aufgetreten, was Martin Luther im nicht weit entfernten Wittenberg veranlasst haben soll, seine 95 Thesen zu veröffentlichen. Man führte Gespräche mit Theologiedozenten und Studenten aus Wittenberg über die reformatorischen Ideen, gegen die sich der Jüterboger Guardian und einige Lektoren der Ordenshochschule abgrenzten, weil sie um die Einheit der Kirche fürchteten. Zu Ostern 1519 kam es in Jüterbog zu einem Streit zwischen Thomas Münzer und den Franziskanern, der durch öffentliche Predigten ausgetragen wurde. Der Lektor Bernhard Dappen richtete im Namen des Konvents eine Beschwerde an den Bischof von Brandenburg, die Martin Luther zugespielt wurde, worauf dieser den Jüterboger Franziskanern mit öffentlicher Bloßstellung „ihrer wunderlichen Weisheit“ drohte. Zwar verbot der Brandenburger Bischof die Predigt gegen Luther, aber die Einstellung der Brüder in Jüterbog trug dazu bei, dass die Sächsische Franziskanerprovinz insgesamt der Reformation kritisch gegenüberstand und in den folgenden Jahrzehnten die Schließung fast aller Klöster hinnehmen musste. This series of resin pendants were inspired by a group of vintage Valentine's Day cards that I found at an antique shop. The cards had been written upon and sent to the owners' sweethearts. They looked like they had been saved for years and well loved. I like the idea of taking a piece from someone's long ago love affair and adding that to a piece of jewelry, possibly to be bought and sent by someone to their own love. It gives it a history of hearts!
They are made from brass with Ice Resin and various found objects, brass components, bits of paper, match sticks, and glass beads. The resin is crystal clear, and very reflective, and amplifies the collage inside the brass pendant with amazing detail. Unfortunately, they are so reflective, they are a bit hard for me to photograph, but I love each one dearly!
This pendant was made from a raw brass frame pendant, which was heated with flame to give it interesting coloration. Some of the pendants in this series were also hand domed with a hammer and dapping block. The pendant was then carefully filled with the paper and found object bits and covered with a water-like layer of crystal clear resin.

Olfert Dapper (1636-1689), a Flemish physician and intellectual person, knew perfectly the classical Greek and Latin literature. He was born in Amsterdam and completed his education in Utrecht. Although she never travels in her life, she gives herself to geography studies, so she always bases her knowledge on a wide area in her works. Thanks to his regular and centrist working style, he manages his research team in an exemplary way and publishes history and geography studies about China, Asia, Africa, America, Amsterdam and eastern Mediterranean islands. These books are decorated with high aesthetic standard maps and engravings.
The publication used mostly ancient Greek and Latin literature authors such as Herodotos, Pausanias, Plutarch, Ptolemy, Strabon, Aged Plinius, Apollonios, Hesychios, Pomponius Mela, Solinus, Stephanus Byzantius, John Hrisostomos. Apart from these, portolan (harbor) maps and island maps called isolario (Cr. Buondelmonti, B. Bordone, T. Porcacchi, M. Boschini, VM Coronelli) testify to contemporary travelers (P. Belon, G. Sandys, Sieur Du Loir, J Uses Spon and G. Wheler etc.), accurate maps of his time (J. & C. Blaeu etc.) and information from Dutch traders. Unlike Dapper's other work, "Archipel", this work is not translated into other languages; as a matter of fact, it is understood that the book was published only to praise the magnificent victories won by the Venetians during the Ottoman-Venetian war (1685-1688). Many of the striking engravings are inspired by the work of VM Coronelli. This work created a useful handbook and advisory text for future travelers.
