Danelectro was one of several manufacturers to supply the Sears mail order catalogue company with Silvertone branded guitars. Harmony, Kay and Teisco were others. This entry level model came complete with a valve amp built into the case. I have not tried plugging mine in yet as I will first need to get a transformer to run it on the UK power supply and also get the circuitry tested. Safety standards have moved on somewhat in the last 55 years!!!
This guitar is of a very basic hollow bodied plywood construction on a wooden frame with a single "lipstick" pick up, so called because the pickup cases were in deed made from surplus lipstick tubes.
Despite their low cost Danelectros became famed for their great tone and notable players include Jimm Page, Syd Barrett, Beck, Elvis Costello, Arto Lindsay and many, many more.
I got this one from my friend Alfie Bernardi who runs a vintage guitar shop in Brighton.

I am playing in Open G which is why the low E string is tucked out of the way on the pickup bobbin.

I was excited to learn that Jimi Hendrix started with a Danelectro!

The electric sitar was originally made by Danelectro in the 1960's and was heard on a variety of records including "Games People Play" by Joe South, "Cry Like a Baby" by the Box Tops, and "Do it Again" by Steely Dan.
He used this guitar in the studio a lot in 1973 while recording the Blueprint and Tattoo albums. Rory had another three Silvertones in his collection (not including Danelectros).

Year 5 of 365: Life, Love, and the Pursuit of Happiness
Music on my mind… I am very passionate about music and have been for almost off of my life. Many of the things I learned about playing music I taught myself, picking up things here and there- gaining some pointers from people and watching others play. This weekend I will finally complete one of the lifetime dreams on my list, learning a song by one of the greatest guitar virtuosos. I’ve been so close for so long, but when the holidays hit I just decided that was more important than completing a song. Plus it’s nice to start the year off on a good start.
More and more when I play here lately I am reminded of why I love music so much. I can let the music swallow me whole, wrap itself around me as I play- and I am transformed. I am working on a piece by Eric Johnson, and a blues album by Joe Satriani- both brilliant in their own way.
Pictured here is my Carvin California guitar and my Fender Stratocaster- both very excellent pieces of musical machinery with very different talents. I’m sure it’s easy to tell, but I love my guitars!
