Journey through time and space with Syd and friends:
* Interstellar Overdrive (1967)
Left: For hundreds of generations, the Tesla Brotherhood of Space Folders Unlimited had what they thought was an unbreakable monopoly on interstellar travel and commerce. Dreadfully expensive, as well as destructive to the very fabric of space-time, the company had long convinced the natural sapient, and even their own wealthy shareholders, that there was no alternative to their space folding technology. The company motto: "Expand or die! Have a nice day."
Center: "Let there be more light." It is now the year 10191 AD. From the depths of space came a brilliant flash of light, music and forbidden colors. Strangely, the electrifying music could travel in the vacuum of space. Even stranger was the sudden appearance of ancient and well-used Danelectro 3021 electric guitars in the hands of everyone. But no one but the Tesla shareholders had the zuleks for music lessons or even amplifiers. Lord Tesla itself dismissed it all as "so much cave gas."
Right: Years later, a strange mostly-human with terrible fingers from the planet Hammersmith IV, a doctor some say, demonstrated the true nature of the guitars. His motto: "Expand your mind and live! Now, fly!" The space folders were now obsolete.

i love this guitar! i always wanted a dano, so when i found one super cheap on craigslist.org i jumped on it. i don't like to travel with nice guitars because they can only handle so many plane journeys...and this plays remarkably beautifully for what it's worth...and it sparkles!

1968 Danelectro Convertible. I'm learning studio lighting and she was my model for the day. Still looks and sounds beautiful at 57 years!

Shot for the Weapons of Choice feature for GoldenPlec. I visited Gavin in his Orphan Recording Studios to discuss his influences, how he learned to play music and learned his craft as well as his favourite guitars, pedals and amplifiers.

I bought this photo from the late Bernard White, who was an authority on The Pink Floyd/ Syd Barrett. He also published 'Terrapin',the first fanzine dedicated to them, and is mentioned in the sleeve notes of some of their LP's. It was printed from an original negative, but I don't know who the photographer was?
I'm assuming it was taken in Sound Techniques Studio, London, at a combined recording and photo session. They spent several days there in January (& into February?), 1967, recording their second single, "Arnold Layne", the follow-up to their chart hit, "See Emily Play"!
