never in my life have i seen people dancing in the streets after a presidential election...it reminded me of the Wizard of OZ, when after the death of the wicked witch, Glinda tells the Munchkins to "let the joyous news be spread" that "the wicked old witch at last is dead!" Joy to the world!!!

I was all geared up for macro today. I was going to head back to where I was yesterday and take some photos of flowers.
I set out at lunch, stopped by Jessops to look at some lenses :), then headed towards broad street.
I ran into some breakdancing guys on the way. They were kind enough to let me take some snaps. It was great fun to capture them back flipping and stuff. Very impressive.
I love when things just work out and when the timing is perfect; in both life and in photography. If I hadn't had my lunch late, gone to Jessops and then headed to broad street. I might never have stumbled into these guys.
Many thanks to COLOSSEUS9 (pictured) and "Elusive Rio" for there time.
I'll post some of the others on facebook soon. Keep posted
NB: I didn't get any photos of flowers in the end :)

Lit by somebody else's strobe/flash! I was photographing the Aztec Blessing Dance outside Carlito's Café, where I had been invited by the Colorado sisters (behind the dancer in white) of the Coatlicue Theatre Co. to attend a celebration of the 4th Anniversary of the Caracoles in Chiapas, Mexico. I met Elvira & Hortensia Colorado at the performance of La Casita that was held in front of the American Museum of the American Indian early this week and they'd invited me to the event.
So there I was, finally, for the first time at Carlito's Café--a place I'd long wanted to visit! I knew the event would be centered around the political movement of the indigenous people of southern Mexico, so was quite surprised--and thrilled--when the event began by everyone going outside to the sidewalk for a dance invoking the blessings of the Aztec gods...
For further info on the Zapatista movement, see this article by its leader Subcomandante Marcos, as well as a brief chronology of the Chiapas conflict here.

When I was downtown today, I recognized this gentleman as one of the square dancers I photographed two years ago during the Calgary Stampede. (That photo is in my Flickr Calgary Stampede album as well as in the first comment below.)
I had a chance to talk to him briefly and gave him my card so he could find his photo on Flickr, and I thought I would post this candid photo I took of him today. It was nice to meet you, Jamie!

Festive and colorful. Kids around Tokyo gather every Sunday on this very long street and perform various types of dance. This was back in '85 so I don't know if it still goes on today.
