One cold Paris evening, I stood outside a little shop, transfixed by the sight of the most beautiful ballet dance wear! The tutus were decorated with sequins and gems and seemed to float in the air. In the background I could see rows and rows of satin ballet slippers, just waiting for the next ballerina to slip into them. Chandeliers and strands of sparkling beads completed the scene before me. I could almost hear the strains of Swan Lake from inside the shop. It was magical!
Macro Mondays: Swag
Dansez-Vous is a brand of dancewear and ballet shoes. This is a promotional pen that I got at the local dance shop.
I've cropped the picture a little to make sure it fit the size requirements.
just getting in from class. all sweaty and rumpled. I hardly post outfit shots anymore because A.) mostly I just wear these sorts of crazy/comfy layers that work for teaching and the cold...not terribly fashionable, but whatever. B.) i just don't have time. and C.) usually my kids dive into the frame and make it impossible.
-one piece skin colored unitard, danskin.
-brown AE hoodie, thrifted.
-weird gauze sundress that is too see-through to wear for anything else, thrifted.
-stripey socks, gift from mom.
-thrifted fur boots. (these & my socks are not worn for dancing, just the return from my studio.)
The signs on this shop suggested pretty much a normal clothing store. Men's and women's clothes, juniors sizing, etc. All of the actual clothing displayed, though, was clearly targeted at strippers and whores.
This man has worked for Freed for over 40 years.
Today as a part of my final major project I visited the Freed of London factory.
Freed are the leading distributors of pointe shoes in the world, hand-making shoes for dancers worldwide since the 1920's. Many thanks to the guys at Freed for allowing me such insight into their work and help with my project.
My bears Paddy and Scout have made very good friends with two bears in Holland called Peter and Oleg (www.flickr.com/photos/40262251@N03/galleries/721577154558...) and their Mummy (www.flickr.com/photos/66094586@N06/) . Peter and Scout are very similar and have become best friends. Peter loves Rosie and Rosie loves Peter, so they have become prince and princess to one another. Paddy and Oleg are very similar too and have become best friends as well. Peter and Oleg visited us for Christmas before going back to Mummy Marian's after Christmas Day. Now Peter and Oleg are return the favour and have invited Paddy, Scout and Rosie for Saint Valentine’s Day. Now they are busily packing.
PADDY: *Fastening clasp of case.* “There! I am packed! I have some lovely tea and some biscuits to share with mijn beste vriend Oleg. I am so looking forward to seeing mijn beste vriend so we can sit down and drink tea and chat.”
SCOUT: *Grunts and groans, pushing clothes into his suitcase to try and make it all fit.*
PADDY: “Are you nearly packed, Rosie? We will be going soon.”
SCOUT: *Grunts and groans, shoving clothes into his suitcase to try and make it all fit.*
ROSIE: “Oh almost, Paddy! I have my fur brushes and mirror. I’m just packing my beautiful new red tutu that I received from Father Christmas, the Christmas Bear and Mama Kim. I know how much mijn prins Peter likes my red tutu, and he has a red tutu as well. I can hardly wait to see him and dance with him! I love him sooooo much!” *Blushes.* “I can hardly wait to see mijn prins Peter! I have lots and lots of soft snuffly kisses for him.”
PADDY: “I’m sure Peter will have lots of snuffly kisses for you too, Rosie.”
ROSIE: *Blushes more.*
SCOUT: *Grunts and groans, jumping on clothes in his suitcase to try and make it all fit.*
PADDY: “Scout! Scout what on earth are you doing?”
SCOUT: “What does it look like, Paddy?” *Grunts and groans, jumping harder and more desperately on clothes in his suitcase to try and make it all fit.* “I’m jumping on my clothes to try and make them all fit into my suitcase.”
PADDY: “Scout, that isn’t the suitcase I gave you to pack!”
SCOUT: “I know Paddy, but that brown one was far too small for me, so I went and picked a bigger one that is more befitting a bear of international travel!”
PADDY: “Scout! How is it that as the smallest bear of the three of us, you have by far the largest suitcase?”
SCOUT: “I need to have the right outfit for the right occasion, Paddy!”
ROSIE: “But we don’t know what we are doing yet, Scout. Peter hasn’t told us, other than we are going to dance.”
SCOUT: “I know, Rosie. That is why I have to pack everything! I’ve packed my tutus, and some scarves, some hats, my flower boa, my birthday beret, my pearls.”
“PADDY: “Ahem!” *Clears throat.* “I do believe those are Daddy’s Grandmother’s pearls, Scout – not yours!”
SCOUT: “Well, whatever is Daddy’s is ours,” *Flaps paw dismissively.* “Let’s be honest.”
ROSIE: “Isn’t that Bogart’s blue tutu?”
PADDY: “And Freddy’s green tutu.”
SCOUT: *Looks at tutus.* “Well yes, but I did ask them if I could borrow them, and they did say yes. What is theirs isn’t necessarily mine. I just want to make sure I have as many choices as possible in dancewear for when Peter, Rosie and I dance on Saint Valentine’s Day! I can’t wait! We are on our way, mijn beste vriend Peter! Then we can dance and dance and dance!”
ROSIE: “I can’t wait to see you, mijn prins Peter! I have lots of soft snuffly kisses for you!”
PADDY: “I can’t wait to sit down and take tea with you, mijn beste vriend Oleg. We have so much to talk about and catch up on.”
DADDY: “Paddy, Scout, Rosie! The taxi is here to take you to the airport.”
PADDY: "Quick! Quick!"
PADDY, SCOUT and ROSIE: *All push, shove and jump on clothes in Scout's suitcase to make them fit.*
My Paddington Bear came to live with me in London when I was two years old (many, many years ago). He was hand made by my Great Aunt and he has a chocolate coloured felt hat, the brim of which had to be pinned up by a safety pin to stop it getting in his eyes. The collar of his mackintosh is made of the same felt. He wears wellington boots made from the same red leather used to make the toggles on his mackintosh.
He has travelled with me across the world and he and I have had many adventures together over the years. He is a very precious member of my small family.
Scout was a gift to Paddy from my friend. He is a Fair Trade Bear hand knitted in Africa. His name comes from the shop my friend found him in: Scout House. He tells me that life was very different where he came from, and Paddy is helping introduce him to many new experiences. Scout catches on quickly, and has proven to be a cheeky, but very lovable member of our closely knit family.
Rosie is Scout's cousin, because like Scout, she is a free trade knitted bear from Africa. She was made in Kenya by one of the Kenana Knitters, Martha Wanjira. She is made from home spun and dyed wool. She was a gift to me from two very dear friends, includng the one who gave Scout to Paddy.

Bree was recently promoted and reassigned to a new unit based in upstate New York! We honored her contributions not only to our local TG community but also to our military's TG community with a farewell dinner, a photo timeline presentation of many of Bree & my times together, a couple of nice speeches, and also awarded her with a lovely plaque with the inscription:
"To Lt. Col. Bree Fram U.S. Air Force
In recognition of your steadfast dedication and leadership in support of the Trans Military Service Members & our DC Area Trans Community.
Aim high and keep up the good fight."

Cropped this photo at the suggestion of a friend. This version does look better than the original, I think. I love wearing leotards with hosiery. This type of outfit has been a favorite of mine since I was a kid.
Security advice: wear insulating clothing when you are in areas with high voltage.

Both this dress and the heels I am wearing with it are intended to be worn by professional strippers and pole dancers. I love to model this kind of niche dancewear, and have modeled several outfits like this over the years here on Flickr. There is another Big Big Kiss awaiting the first person to correctly identify this outfit's first appearance on my photostream! BTW, my platform heels are from Pleaser, and the stripper's dress is from Liberette of London. My pantyhose are again from the Aristoc “Illusions” range.
