Photos from the Saturday performance on December 14th, 2019 of the Ann Arbor Dance Classics 2019 Holiday Show, Nutcracker Suite & Spirit of the Season at Milan High School (Michigan). Performances took place on Saturday December 14th and Sunday December 15th, 2019 at Milan High School.
This dance shows a woman wielding and balancing the swords of power. There is a tension in those swords. She's willing to use them, but using her profound wisdom to know when to destroy, when to nurture, when to cut out, and when to keep.
Some of the funds for the event were to be contributed to the Center for Women and Families, which is a rape crisis and domestic violence center serving Louisville.
Our local photography group was invited to take photos of the dance performance.

A "must-do" while in Ubud, Bali is to attend a dance performance at the royal palace. There are several different dance troupes but this group is maybe the best of the best. This night they performed the Ramayana Ballet.

The Pacific Islander Festival at Ski Beach along Mission Bay is one of my favorite events to photograph in San Diego. It has been a staple in San Diego for over 20 years, but this was only my 2nd year in attending it.
The festival is a celebration of the cultures of the indigenous nations of Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia. It was an amazing weekend of food, dance performances and great photo opportunities!

The Pacific Islander Festival at Ski Beach along Mission Bay is one of my favorite events to photograph in San Diego. It has been a staple in San Diego for over 20 years, but this was only my 2nd year in attending it.
It is a challenge to photograph the dancers since the lighting isn't optimal combined with their fast moving action. It is difficult at times to come away with tack sharp portraits, but in this case I got a winner.
The festival is a celebration of the cultures of the indigenous nations of Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia. It was an amazing weekend of food, dance performances and great photo opportunities!

Performed by the Elements Dance Arts/Wu Yue Dance Studio Arts Troupe (Singapore) at the Esplanade Outdoor Theatre during Huayi 2019, Chinese Festival of Arts.
Therukoothu:
The traditional "Therukoothu" is a form of rural folk theatre from Tamil Nadu. The Term "Therukoothu" literally means "street theatre" and the performance is usually enacted outdoors. The dance-drama, based on traditional epic poetry and folklore, includes dance and songs sung in a high pitch by male actors, who also wear colourful make-up and costumes.
Therukoothu may be described as Traditional Indian Dance-Drama that makes use of prose, verse, music and dance, dramatizing stories from the epics of Indian Literature, namely, the Bhagavata, Mahabarata ad Ramayana. The term 'Theru' means street or outside, the term 'koothu' theaterical art form. Theru-k-koothu is a typical south indian theatrical form that is practiced mostly in the rural areas. Indian performing arts can generally be seen in two distinct categories, those linked to the tribal or village peoples which are termed 'folk', and those linked to the urban areas which are termed 'classical'. The form is ideally a cultural off-shoot that exists very much within a specific cultural context, adhering to certain broad principles.
