Danby railway station serves the village of Danby in the parish of Danby, North Yorkshire, England. It is on the Esk Valley Line, known as the Herb Line

The "Herb Line" runs from Middlesborough to Whitby linking with the North Yorkshire Moors steam railway at Grosmont

The Danby station was operational in 1865 when the line opened.

About a mile and a half from the station lies the Moors National Park Centre, a former shooting lodge and now the main information centre for the National Park

Taking the tree in silhouette form you can see the amazing intricate pattern of branches on this tree

The tree lives in Danby Dale on the North Yorkshire Moors

This is the road down Danby Dale to the village of Castleton and the hill is called Danby Low Moor.

If you look carefully on top of the hill you can see the new telephone mast (wrong company for me)

Well it did say footpath on that old broken sign at the creaking gate so the only way is forward and hope that Cathy has moved here from Top Withens

The showers are infrequent but very heavy washing the colour away

Stormy Hall Farm,

The strong winds are bringing the heavy rain down Danby Dale from Danby Head in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, England. Luckily for once I was not out walking as visibility on the top was only a few yards.

This building is on a remote part of Danby High Moor overlooking Little Fryup Dale in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park.

The hut is well maintained and I suspect it may be a hut where shooting parties refresh now. It is adjacent to disused mine workings that are scattered around this area. Sheep, generally Swaledales, graze this open land.

The track which is called Cut Road (path) runs around the head of both Fryup Dales and onto the road at Glaisdale Rigg and is a superb walk.

Yes, the gate is not square but fills the gap well. Wooden five bar gates embodies part of the character of the dales

Danby Dale in the North Yorkshire Moor National Park is one of a series of valleys that flow north into the Esk, creating a pattern of valleys and ridges that give the area its distinctive character.

Rather unusually the village of Danby sits a little bit away from the dale. Danby Beck runs into the Esk on the eastern side of Castleton. Danby village is a mile to the east, and on the opposite side of the Esk, while Danby Castle is further east, nearer to Little Fryup Dale than Danby Dale.

I think this tree is suffering from Ash Dieback which will show considerable changes to out landscape

Church House Farm, formerly Canons' Hall, which has been traced back to the Middle Ages when the Augustinian Canons of Gisborough Priory were given Canons' Hall by Robert de Brus. The present Church House farmhouse and closes are identified as the site of the medieval Canons' Hall with the same view of the church enjoyed by guests today that the Canons looked out across five hundred years ago.

The Old Smithy is located in Shop Lane adjacent to Botton Village in Danby Dale in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park.

I assume this originally was a Blacksmiths Shop

50 yds away (in view) is the old Wesleyan Chapel which is of similar size and both were converted to houses in 1993. This is quite a dark corner especially in summer with leaves on the trees.

The Old Smithy is described now as having a hall, kitchen, living room, shower room, and mezzanine sleeping area/camping room. It comes with off-road parking and seating areas adjoining Danby beck.

Despite the sun there was still a covering of snow on the moor tops and the temperature had dropped to -2C at dusk. In the dale in the shaded spots black ice was present making walking a little difficult at times

Spring here is around two week behind many of the places I visit with the climate influenced by the North Sea. The brown colour on the small rounded hill is last years bracken with this years growth not showing through yet.

This view is from a section of the Esk Valley Trail footpath looking across to the east side of Danby Dale in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. HFF

The 37 mile trail starts from Castleton, the route runs up Danby Dale and across the moors to the source of the River Esk, before descending Westerdale and back to Castleton. Then it traces the Esk Valley all the way to the North Sea at Whitby, via Danby, Lealholm, Glaisdale, Egton Bridge and Grosmont.

The view is down into Esk Dale on the North Yorkshire Moors with Little Fryup Dale on the left and Danby Dale on the right.

Happy Telegraph Tuesday (HTT)

Come walk into the photo with me to remember the beauty of spring and summer. I've seen enough dreary grey and damp days in the last two weeks and need cheering up.

I walked on the North Yorkshire Moors today and ended up in the rain for the last two miles.

Trough House is a solitary property adjoining the Cut Road Path and is on a remote part of Danby High Moor overlooking Little Fryup Dale in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park.

The hut is a gamekeepers building used by grouse shooting parties often for luncheons between shoots. It is adjacent to disused mine workings that are scattered around this area. Sheep, generally Scottish Blackface or Swaledales, graze this open moorland. The hut also offers an excellent stone seat with a wide panoramic view for walkers to enjoy a rest and a snack
