Over the spiral staircase at the Dali, above the continuing curl, is a large skylight that shows off some beautiful skies.

My attempt to capture the Dali Museum architecture. Happy window Wednesday!

third floor loggia of the dali museum in st. petersburg, florida (second floor, actually, if you consider the ground floor to be floor #0, and why wouldn't you, after all.) i came for the horst p. horst photography exhibit and the fantastic collection of dali paintings that are housed here. i was not expecting the architecture to smite me, and yet here i am, smitten by this brilliantly conceived space.

i was tempted to skip the galleries.

The sun peeks out from behind the edge of the spiral staircase at the Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida.

"The Dalí’s stunning new building opened on January 11, 2011. Designed by architect Yann Weymouth of HOK, it combines the rational with the fantastical: a simple rectangle with 18-inch thick hurricane-proof walls out of which erupts a large free-form geodesic glass bubble known as the “enigma”. The Enigma, which is made up of 1,062 triangular pieces of glass, stands 75 feet at its tallest point, a twenty-first century homage to the dome that adorns Dalí’s museum in Spain. Inside, the Museum houses another unique architectural feature – a helical staircase – recalling Dalí’s obsession with spirals and the double helical shape of the DNA molecule."

The city of Salvador Dali..

From what I recall Dalí was a bit shorter than me so this more or less life size screen presents Dalí giving snippets of information about his art and philosophy.

It is in the area that housed the Virtual Reality tour of his painting the "Archeological Reminiscence of Millet's Angelus" currently removed because of the Trump Virus.
