This is an old picture taken in front of the Federal Courthouse/Post Office in downtown Texarkana. The man in the middle is ID'd as Dale Carnegie. Notice he is straddling the TX/AR State Line. My long-timer friend Buddy tells me that the arrow above the man on the right indicated which elevator was in operation at that time. The other two men are:

L-W.D. Simmons Sr. and R-Robert Maxwell. I am just guessing at the date as in the 40's.

"How to Win Friends and Influence People" Dale Carnegie

Simon and Schuster, 1964

The name on the phone is my grandfather's. He used to stick his name on everything he owned - sometimes twice. I wonder why. I couldn't get myself to remove it on this phone I inherited.

(1993) Dale Carnegie I

This is a portrait of self improvement lecturer Dale Carnegie (Nov 24, 1888 – Nov 1, 1955), the author of How to Win Friends and Influence People (1936), commissioned by a fellow school mate back in 1993.

This art was featured in a student art show of my high school KCC (Kiangsu-Chekiang College) in Hong Kong.

Friday Awards Reception. With Cynthia Abreu, Dale Carnegie Training, Mexico

An idea map of a development plan to move into a sales role. For more details see the January 19, 2008 posting at ideamapping.ideamappingsuccess.com/.

In my twenties, I was lucky enough to graduate from a Dale Carnegie class. One of the concepts there on dealing with worry is to live in daytight-compartments. This always made me think of doors between days so that today is always sealed off from what happened yesterday and what may happen tomorrow.

When someone talks of "one day at a time," I think about these doors and how all i have to do is make it to bedtime. “It is not our goal to see what lies dimly in the distance but to do what clearly lies at hand.”

This is a composite image made for use on merewisdom.org to illustrate the idea of daytight compartments. I combined an entrance at the University of Houston taken late at night with a sunset shot at Stillman Lake back in 2007. I used Gimp, the free alternative to photoshop, to make this.

A flock of sheep that leisurely pass by

One after one; the sound of rain, and bees

Murmuring; the fall of rivers, winds and seas,

Smooth fields, white sheets of water, and pure sky -

I've thought of all by turns, and still I lie

Sleepless...

So as you may have noticed, these new characters are in fact ear plugs. They don't have names yet, and they live at work, so whenever I have a comic idea at work it'll probably star these guys. They're photographed on top of my Wacom tablet, and the only light illuminating them at the time was the glow from my monitors, plus the little blue LED on the tablet itself. The upshot of all this: My digital camera rocks!

Also, thank you to the Strongbad Email guys for the idea that characters who possess no hands whatsoever should in no way have trouble holding things up.

I found this card in the book "How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie". it's a Business Reply Card (No Postage Stamp Necessary If Mailed In the United States). The owner of the book was suppose to make comments on the back and mail in at no charge..
