One reason why birds and horses are not unhappy is because they are not trying to impress other birds and horses.

Don't be afraid to give your best to what seemingly are small jobs. Every time you conquer one it makes you that much stronger. If you do the little jobs well, the big ones will tend to take care of themselves.

“If you want to conquer fear, don’t sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.” #DaleCarnegie

“One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that all of us tend to put off living. We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon-instead of enjoying the roses blooming outside our windows today.”

~ Dale Carnegie ~

Again, serendipity popped its amazing head as yesterday I had photographed this little hut at my favorite herb farm and came home to a lovely testimonial from my flickr calligraphy friend, Blunder.

Goodness, don't know what I've done to deserve such staggering compliments, but am genuinely grateful to have been an inspiration in some small way! To "possess a skeleton key that unlocks all the doors and windows of the souls in the world, in every person" is an astounding statement!

I love Sir Blunder's words, "Personally I think that the soul can only be truly free when it can find a door or a window through which it can express itself creatively."

I can truly attest to that feeling of "freedom" and have to agree with the following quotations:

“Art is the window to man's soul. Without it, he would never be able to see beyond his immediate world; nor could the world see the man within.” ~ Claudia Lady Bird Johnson ~

“One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that all of us tend to put off living. We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon – instead of enjoying the roses blooming outside our windows today.” ~ Dale Carnegie ~

“Let there be many windows to your soul, that all the glory of the world may beautify it.”

~ Ella Wheeler Wilcox ~

"It isn't what you have, or who you are, or where you are, or what you are doing that makes you happy or unhappy. It is what you think about." ~ Dale Carnegie

If this image helps brighten your day or makes you smile, I'll be happy too:-)

We had a brief shower again. That makes over 40 inches in 4 weeks. Had to capture this tiny rosebud with raindrops. 156/365

Our neighbors just finished siding their house

and are getting ready to bring home their boat for winter storage!

I LOVE how this reminds me of an orchestral rehearsal

with 4 conductors waiting to take their place!

Happy Fenced Friday, everyone!

“For better or worse, you must play your own little instrument in the orchestra of life.”

~ Dale Carnegie ~

“The conductor must make it possible to eliminate himself in the music. If the orchestra feels him doing that, then everything will go well.”

~ Giuseppe Sinopoli ~

“God comes to us in theater [in] the way we communicate with each other, whether it be a symphony orchestra, or a wonderful ballet, or a beautiful painting, or a play. It's a way of expressing our humanity.”

~ Julie Harris ~

In the quaint New England town of Warner, New Hampshire, just steps away from the fun store where I took the picture of the spider mural, sits this wonderfully carved wooden king! It brought to mind different quotations . . . . choose your favorite and just ENJOY!

“Being happy is better than being king.” ~ African Proverb ~

“All that is gold does not glitter,

not all those who wander are lost;

the old that is strong does not wither,

deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,

a light from the shadows shall spring;

renewed shall be blade that was broken,

the crownless again shall be king.”

~ J.R.R. Tolkien ~

“You are a king by your own fireside, as much as any monarch in his throne.”

~ Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra ~

“There can be no failure to a man who has not lost his courage, his character, his self-respect, or his self-confidence. He is still a King.” ~ Orison Swett Marden ~

“All the king's horses and all the king's men can't put the past together again. So let's remember: Don't try to saw sawdust.” ~ Dale Carnegie ~

Ah, three for one! While celebrating our anniversary locally on Monday, we drove down to Stonington Harbor for a few shots! Don't you just LOVE the names of these fishing boats!

“When the tides of life turn against you and the current upsets your boat, don't waste those tears on what might have been, just lie on your back and float.” anon

“The person who goes farthest is generally the one who is willing to do and dare. The sure-thing boat never gets far from shore.” ~ Dale Carnegie ~

“There is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.” ~ Kenneth Graham ~

How to Communicate With Diplomacy and Tact

We have all been awed by a Manager or a Team Member who always seems to know what to say and how to say it in any situation. These people know how to communicate with diplomacy, tact and confidence.

The way in which we communicate can elicit positive or negative emotions. If we communicate aggressively, without respect or sensitivity, defensive or angry emotions can prevent others from hearing the message we are trying to convey. Communicating with diplomacy and tact is an approach that combines strength and sensitivity and keeps negative emotions at bay.

The Six Rules for Disagreeing Agreeably

Rule #1: Give others the benefit of the doubt. Maybe the person who made that outrageous generalization isn’t really insensitive. Maybe this person has had a painful experience that made him overreact.

Rule #2: After giving someone the benefit of the doubt, listen to learn and truly understand why this person holds this belief. We must let him/her know we’ve heard them and we are genuinely trying to see things from their perspective.

Rule #3: Always take responsibility for our own feelings, when disagreeing with someone. Make a commitment to respond using “I” statements only. When we begin with “you” we come off as blaming and confrontational and immediately put the other person on the defensive. This reduces the chance of our point of view being heard.

Rule #4: Use a cushion. Connect or “cushion” a different opinion, starting with “I hear what you’re saying” Or “I appreciate your view on”. Again, begin with the word “I” and not “You said…” or it will sound confrontational.

Rule #5: Eliminate the words “but” or “however” from our vocabulary. Once we have cushioned the other person’s opinion, use “and,” or pause and say nothing, following the cushion. Acknowledging the individual’s point of view and following it with a “but” or “however” erases the acknowledgement.

Rule #6: State our point of view or opinion with relevant and factual evidence. Keep our emotions out of the equation by using the following formula:

Take time to reflect:

What do I think?

Why do I think it?

What evidence do I have?

Then speak:

“One example is”

“This shows that”

“Therefore, I think”

The secret about Valentines day and consumerism that they don’t want you to know.

We all have 364 days in a year to truly love our loved ones and 1 day each year on the 14th of February to love the corporations for their distortion of love. Our economy demands that we make consumption our way of life, that we convert the buying and use of goods into rituals that we seek our spiritual satisfaction & ego satisfaction in consumption. This has lead most humans to believe their value and the amount of happiness they should feel is proportionate to what they own. The Media indoctrinates us with the use of several mind control techniques, remnants of behavioural programming through tv and cia’s mk ultra/delta program. Have you ever stopped to think about the one thing that has the ultimate power to rape your mind, control your perceptions and views, is something you never elected! Who elected those that run the media? And how they and every form of advertising has the majority of humanity chasing stuff they never needed to impress people they never cared about. Whilst they use humans as material things, and love their things, the things they own eventually end up owning them. The old form of slavery required humans to be housed and fed whilst they picked cotton. Economic slavery, has humans taking out loans whilst the banks use their weapon of interest to keep them running on the chained hamster wheel of life. We can break free by just realising one thing…

Our mind is the greatest gift given to us, whatever thoughts we seed into it and water become a reality in the quantum universe, yet out mind comes as standard equipment at birth, it’s free and things which have been given to us for nothing we place little value upon. Things we pay money for, we value. The paradox is, the exact reverse is true. Everything that is truly worthwhile in life came to us for free. Our mind, our soul, our intelligence, our dreams, our families and friends. Yet the things that cost us money, are cheap and can be replaced at any time. A man can be bankrupt yet make another fortune, several times. Even if our homes burn down we can rebuild them, but the things we got for nothing, the truly valuable things can never be replaced. Now here is where the true illusion becomes obvious, when you read about “ fractional reserve banking “ you will realise all money is created out of debt and is merely numbers on a screen which isn’t even in circulation.

“Okay girls … I am logged on here … looking at the listings on BK … found the WTB section … to see if anyone is looking for a Kenner … “

BOGIE: (Brunette whispy-bang Kenner):

“I am making a list in my notebook ... of all of our attributes … now, how many lines do you have, Brooklyn ? … and what are YOU going to do for our recent dilemma… ?”

BROOKLYN (Redhead chunky-bang Kenner):

“Well, you girls do what you want … but perhaps it’s not about who WANTS a Kenner … it’s all about how they make you FEEL … so I am going to do a little reading from this Dale Carnegie book … maybe there is a WAY for us to stay here … “

BACALL:

“… um… enjoy your reading Brookie … but … believe me … pretty sure it’s going to come down to HOW WE LOOK in our next photo-shoot … And I, for one, want to be prepared … !”

1949; Zo maakt u vrienden en goede relaties by Dale Carnegie.

"Remember, happiness doesn't depend upon who you are or what you have, it depends solely upon what you think." - Dale Carnegie ~ American author most known for writing "How to Win Friends and Influence People"

What gives you the strength and joy each day to get out of bed? What makes you thankful that you have this day to live?

It's not about what we have, it's about how we appreciate what we have been given. Our happiness then is directly correlated to what is important to us and how thankful we are for those we have in our life.

The money that we make and the job we currently hold may come and go, but the love we have is everlasting when we don't let it go.

There is a direct correlation between how we make other people happy and our own happiness.

When we feel unfulfilled, when we feel like something is missing in our lives, it's due to the fact that we are only thinking about ourselves. There is nothing that will satisfy our desires except for the unselfish love that abounds when we put others before ourselves.

If we really want what's best for us, if we really want to be happy, we love and respect those around us always, regardless of how they treat us.

It is when our driving force is the person standing next to us that we appreciate life for what it is, that we appreciate life one day at a time.

To be purpose-driven is to use our talents not for fame or fortune, but in the pursuit of helping one another.

There is no greater satisfaction, no deeper understanding of self-worth, then when we do for others without looking for what's in it for me.

A promotion will not make you happy, an increase in wages will not make you happy, it is in the realization that today you have an opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of those around you. You will be happy once you realize what you do have, when you appreciate who you have by your side.

If you feel like something is missing in your life you need to stop looking inward, and realize what's right in front of you.

If tomorrow is not guaranteed I want to appreciate today; I want to appreciate what I have, and most importantly, who I have. It is when we do this that we are thankful, it is when we do this that we are truly happy.

(Bob Dylan with Joan Baez during the March on Washington, D.C. in 1963)

I believe that this Doritaenopsis is a stunningly beautiful moth orchid. That something this beautiful would bloom in my home is amazing and humbling. The blooms last for months.

Sometimes the names can be tongue-twisters; in this case, for instance, the name is Doritaenopsis (Dtps.) Tzeng-Wen Sentra 'Jia-Ho'. For me, that's a mouthful. However, the beauty of each flower is so easy on my eyes that I don't let it both me if I can't pronounce the names perfectly.

The "AM" and "AOS" designations tacked on at the end are abbreviations identifying an official award received by this variety and the award-granting organization. The AM or Award of Merit is given to a plant scoring from 80 to 89 points on a scale of 100 during judging. AOS stands for the American Orchid Society.

The spotted varieties are commonly known as harlequins, and each plant has it own unique pattern and coloration. The combinations are seemingly endless, much to the delight of both buyers and sellers.

The Phalaenopsis and Doritaenopsis orchids are amazingly resilient and forgiving in the home environment; however, without proper care, they can suffer and even die. Unfortunately, this plant fell victim to a summer and fall schedule that left me spread too thin to cover all of my responsibilities.

On top of my normal crazy busy schedule, I preached my first wedding, graduated from a Dale Carnegie course offered in a neighboring community and grieved and celebrated wonderful lives as our family experienced a series of five deaths on my dad's side. While caring for the people in my life, some of the plants got neglected.

I've learned from this experience to live a little more lightly on this earth ... to appreciate more beautiful things without having to own them ... to enjoy a smaller group of plants that I can care for properly, even when my schedule goes into unexpected overdrive.

My priorities were tested this past year, and I'm proud of the decisions I made. Next time, however, there will be a happier ending ... including a small, thriving collection of orchids ... properly cared for ... gracing my long, busy days with beautiful blooms. And, of course, that's why I purchased them in the first place.

Lesson learned.

I'm glad I took the photo. I hope you enjoy it.

One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that all of us tend to put off living. We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon instead of enjoying the roses that are blooming outside our windows today.

Yesterday I was spontaneously doodling in an art program.

Today I was trying to compose a birthday *e* to my sister,

using graphics and words from one of my favorite artists, Brian Andreas.

Suddenly I had an *aha* moment . . .

Combine Brian's words with my art!

Voilá!

After our long, wonderful overseas skype session, this seemed to reinforce some of our feelings!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Dearest Sis! Ride on with the wind, Girl! Write, Create and keep it comin' and goin'!

the optimist expects it to change;

the realist adjusts the sails.”

“Today is life-the only life you are sure of.

Make the most of today.

Get interested in something.

Shake yourself awake. Develop a hobby.

Let the winds of enthusiasm sweep through you.

Live today with gusto.”
