When the old Leeds based firm and latterly BL owned bodybuilder Charles H Roe was hived off and privatised, it bacame Optare. After shaking off the old time honoured designs, they became something of a byword for mould breaking visuals, even if some became disillussioned with other aspects of the product.
Their first big single decker was placed upon DAF's very good SB220 underframes and given the name Delta and as illustrated here. It was never a huge seller as maybe the tide had begun to turn towards smaller buses, but the Optare Delta was a pretty dependable bus.
H801 GRE is a preserved ex PMT example ... preserved ones are particularly thin on the ground. 801 was owned by the late Paul Pearson a good friend and fellow Flickrite, until his sad death almost a year ago. It's now owned by my daughter and her husband, left to them by Paul in his will in recognition of their help in its restoration.
A few weeks ago, it was out and about on a bit of a photo-shoot for Bus & Coach Preservation magazine, and as the latter article is now published, here's a phone-cam shot which I also took on the day.

A very nice DAF 44 from 1969. Apparently this copy was not intended for the Dutch market, because this cute sedan was imported to the Netherlands in 2007. However, it was produced in the Netherlands, the 44 was the first car to be produced in Born (Limburg).
