Very rare in Georgia because this is a Northern species - much more common in Northern states. But here we have to drive to one of the highest ponds in Georgia to shoot them. They are found here in only 2 mountain counties. We were early (photo'd them once before on June 7) - but one male was at the pond and posed for me nicely. You can't miss the male's unique golden yellow cerci! They like to perch facing the water so it's hard to get a shot of their pretty eyes - the wind rotated his leafy perch a bit so I could get this shot. Lots of fun and a bluebird-skies day at the top of NW Georgia!

Have a great Memorial Day weekend!
Venetian Pool is a historic U.S. public swimming pool located in Coral Gables, Florida. Completed in 1924, it was designed by Phineas Paist with Denman Fink.
Venetian Pool, opened in 1924 as "Venetian Casino," was created from a 4 acres (16,000 m2) old coral rock quarry, abandoned in 1921. The pool was founded by George Merrick as part of the development of Coral Gables, which was created in Mediterranean Revival style and utilized a large amount of coral for ornamental features of the community. The remaining quarry was reconfigured by architect Phineas Paist and designed by artist Denman Fink. Named for Mediterranean city of Venice, Italy, the pool included a Venetian style bridge and classic mooring posts.
The Venetian Pool has gone through several phases. A large additional island was created to allow Venetian style gondolas to dock alongside though the gondolas were later removed. A high diving platform was constructed above the grand waterfall and was also later torn down
This reflection lasts only a few minutes, seconds really, as long as the proper angle is matched. I was lucky to be able to record it at the exact moment.

I know....another sunset photo. I was driving around with a friend in his Rialta, and had to grab a shot of the sky. This was taken across a recently plowed field. It's been raining every day. I'm so glad, won't have to paint the grass green!

Well, not exactly the world - but near the top of the NW Georgia mountains. Yesterday - in our hottest day ever in the mountains (low 90's feeling like 100o). We got our sunny day - but not our target species and my back is not happy with me at all. It will be our last trip up there. But - lots of common odes posed nicely. Did not see many butterflies especially Great spangled frits were missing. Again good news: butterflies are showing up in our hot & sunny yard today - foty Long-tailed skipper arrived from points south, foty Gray hairstreak, a nice duskywing in my purple verbena, a Blue dasher posing on the verbena, and a Great blue skimmer swooped through!

Erected in 1925-28, this this Classical Revival, skyscraper courthouse was designed by A. Ten Eyck Brown of Atlanta and August Geiger. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.
For much of this structure's existence, it was known as the Dade County Courthouse. The county officially changed its name to Miami-Dade after a public vote in 1997.
