Le château d'Effiat est situé dans la commune d'Effiat, dans le département du Puy-de-Dôme en Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes
La première mention de la seigneurie d'Effiat remonte à 1120. Elle passe entre les mains de plusieurs familles jusqu'au XVIe siècle. Elle est acquise en 1557 par Gilbert Coiffier (ou Coëffier), fait chevalier à la bataille de Cérisolles. Sa famille faisait partie de la clientèle du connétable de Bourbon.

Located to the south of the National Mall, the memorial is set in a park-like plaza, with large columns framing a mesh tapestry, created by Tomas Osinski, depicts the Pointe du Hoc promontory, the site of the Normandy landings, and sculptures and bas-reliefs arrayed in the park. The stainless steel tapestry is 447 feet wide and 60 feet high, and is in front of the headquarters of the Department of Education, an agency Eisenhower helped to create. Architect Frank Gehry designed the memorial and Sergey Eylanbekov sculpted the bronze statues of Eisenhower in various settings. The Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial Commission was created by Congress on 25 October 1999. Congress charged the Commission with creating "...an appropriate permanent memorial to Dwight D. Eisenhower...to perpetuate his memory and his contributions to the United States." The preliminary design proved controversial. After several years of hearings and several design changes by Gehry, final design approvals were given in 2017, when dignitaries held a groundbreaking ceremony at the four-acre site. The dedication ceremony was initially scheduled for May 8, 2020, the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, but was postponed to September 17, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 540 Independence Ave. SW, Washington, D.C. 22 November 2020
