It's 4:30 in the morning and the temperature is a bone chilling 5 degrees. We are in the old NYC yard at 63rd Street, also known as Park Manor on standby.

When temperatures are this cold, railroading gets much slower. The car department is having a difficult time finishing their initial terminal inspection of our train due to snow and ice.

My second unit of three today is a former Burlington Northern SD60. I thought these units looked great wearing the BN paint scheme. I also liked them in Soo Line colors.

Not long after we departed Chicago, the arctic weather killed the lead unit in our consist. In order to get the train to Elkhart, we had to switch out the power and make this unit the new leader. That was a very cold, nasty job!

This was my first time behind the throttle of a cyclops. Gotta say that she ran like a champ!

When I took the shot, all I wanted to do was to take everything but this newbud in focus, but when I saw it in the preview, I knew the title right away. I forgot the actual flower name (could be Lamb's Ear or Mums)

During my June trip, I had a short phone conversation with my friend and fellow photographer Eugene Louie and we were very surprised to discover that we were both planning to shoot near Lone Pine, CA the next night. Of course, we immediately decided to do the shooting together.

After meeting in the afternoon, we had an early dinner and, while discussing our plans over a burger, we discovered that we favored two totally different places for our night together.

After checking our planning apps, we agreed that shooting at both spots was possible during the next night, as the MW would be nicely placed over the arch I desperately wanted to shoot, while the late night vertical MW would nicely fit Eugenes preferred scene.

This is the result I got at "my" arch. We arrived there shortly after sunset and, while talking about how to set up the low level lighting, I noticed that Eugene was quite a perfectionist about it. We decided to light the scene with 3 LED panels and I let Eugene play with the lights. He kept shuffling them almost until the end of our shooting and, although he never was totally happy with his setup, I think he did an excellent job lighting the scene.

This face is on the back of a vintage alarmclock, you can see the eye, the mouth with a little tongue and it's chin. That was a surprise :)

Can't see nothing at all.

That canted inquisitive head somehow manages to accentuate its upper (central) eye just about enough.

"Cyclops Rock" by They Might Be Giants

I taught you how to cyclops rock

And then you go and turn around and break my heart

You waste my cyclops time

And mess up my cyclops mind

Definitely my favourite location from this year's London Open House Event - the art deco inspired atrium inside the Dorsett Hotel in Shepherds Bush.

Standing inside the long, thin, inner atrium with gold painted wood was like being on a futuristic, art deco inspired ship.

This is a panorama of Cyclops Arch in the Alabama Hills of California. I had been there in August before, and the Milky Way was better centered over the arch. This trip was in June, and it was harder than I expected to get the core centered over the arch. So we "resorted" to placing the stone arch under the arch of the MW. It worked out better than expected. There is a small light panel under the arch with the light damped down very low. There is another light panel off to my left. For a tutorial on this kind of lighting (LLL) see lowlevellighting.org.

A composite of Cyclops Arch. It was the shot I sought that night. But unfortunately the weather wouldn't allow it. Thus, I created this composite with a Galaxy shot from last year. Perhaps this adventure out there was not a win or a fail. But a successful RECON mission with a few decent video clip, and a valuable learning experience. Nevertheless, I'll return to try again.

Heavily processed. [Duh.]

If I could paint, I'd paint this.

I’m already working on modding the new cyclops that JUST came out from ferocious muffin. The head is mod, unrigged, the ears can be selected and turned transparent, there are cute expressions, it blinks, and so many other things. It was an insta-buy after I saw it. It also has an applier kit and uv stuff with it. So easy :D
