Around sunset and looking to the NW from Boat Harbour Point - Binalong Bay, Bay of Fires or larapuna.

A big long ex-cyclone swell from thousands of km away had made during the day and on sunset was bending around the point and feeling the bullies quite nicely.

This is another of the abandoned frames from 2016 due to a poor quality ND filter and my lack of experience in handling it.

It's also a two exposure blend - 1 sec for the wave and 25 secs for the wash in the foreground.

What a difference a week can make! This is the Foxton estuary just a few days after cyclone Gabrielle pummeled New Zealand.

A little over a week ago the estuary was largely clear of debris, had sailing boats dotted over it and a myriad of birds feeding...

This is just a small part of the debris that has washed down the Manawatu River from parts of the country that were hammered by the cyclone. Masses of debris in all directions sadly!

Another pov showing just how far the erosion spreads. Pretty much from Noosa down to the Gold Coast the beaches look like this. Of course still lots of crazy surfers out up this way.

Looked across from where I was shooting, and there it was, a mass of gulls flying like a cyclone had taken them aloft.

Another wave from Cyclone Seth crashes its way towards the Point Lookout Gorge. A fallen eucalypt and carved rock provide direct testimony of erosion still under way.

we are in the middle of a cyclone, winds are 150 km per hour, gusting to 200 km per hour!!! It's appalling, I've had to be out in it seeing to the animals, particularly the horses which are very distressed. Took the camera out in a plastic bag but it still got wet.......Difficult to walk, rain feels like freezing needles!! I'm very surprised we still have power, thank goodness we do as I've been drenched to the skin several times today, with winds this strong the rain gets through your clothing no matter what coat you are wearing.........

I was happy to see the clouds break up as the sun went down. The forecast was for sun the next day, but I was having my doubts when I arrived to thick clouds surrounding the lake. Also, one of my more memorable mosquito experiences.

Nervous time here in Australia, QLD is about to get the worst storm in recorded history tonight. A friend dear to my heart is in the direct hit zone. It's too late for her to get out, now is time to stay indoors.

I got several of these Exo Force windscreens not long ago, and wanted to make a VTOL with one. I’ve also been trying to find a use for the dark tan windscreens and finally managed it! Like the Cave Carver, it is a donation to Creations for Charity.

Sunny Morning at Tugun on the Queensland as keen surfers wait for a wave in the sloppy surf. The well trod path through sand dunes show its popularity. The steep drop down to the wet sand is evidence of recent damage inflicted by Tropical Cyclone Alfred. There's mist along the shoreline this morning.

A talk of closing down the amusement park of Coney Island :(((( !!! It would really be a shame to see the free spirit of people damaged!! Coney Island, as is now, is the jewel of Brooklyn, NY!!!

Tropical Storm In The Garden

It’s a photograph, Jim, but not as we know it...

This started out as one of a series of images I took in April for a Macro Monday theme Motion Blur. I put the camera on a rotating record deck and took images of decorative cocktail sticks which were like little witches brooms of colour tinsel. What immense fun that was!

If you want to find out more about the method I link to one of the previously published images which has the detail in the commentary. I’ll also link to the original image that is the starting point of this creation, and I’ll probably publish an interim stage view as well because it’s rather pretty :). See the first comment below.

Thank you for taking time to look! I really hope you enjoy the image even if manipulated works aren’t your preference :) Happy Sliders Sunday!

[See the interim shot commentary (linked below) for detail about most of the creative work. This was created from it in PS using the twirl distortion filter, by first increasing the canvas size by 60%. I then backfilled the transparent areas created after the twirl with black. Finally cropped to 4:6 aspect ratio.]
