As a life-long toy junkie I am obsessed with all the fun designer toys that are available. They have created a whole new media for artists and designers and I've been having fun painting a bunch of my own custom toys. I did this one for my desk so everyone can see what my mood du jour is.

You can see lots more of my Pop Art Eye Candy on my website gallery at www.howiegreen.com

Custom Pullip Vicky, la enfermera muerta. Antes era una crazzia. Maquillaje y outfit hechos enteramente por mí.

By David Laing, 1813-17. Centre of river front rebuilt in 1825 by Robert Smirke. East end rebuilt after World War II with alterations to basements etc. Very large neoclassical building of Portland stone with street front of yellow brick and stone dressings. Granite basement to Smirke's rebuilding. 3 main storeys plus basement and attic. 3 Ionic porticos of 6 columns to river, outer ones engaged. Straight entablatures, segmentally arched windows to partly channelled ground storey. Some 1st floor windows corniced. Balustrade in front of part of attic. Recessed centre of plain street front has order of 8 Doric pilasters above channelled ground storey with triple entrance. 3 lamps on iron brackets and carved royal arms above. Plain area railings. Interior very simple except for large, severe Long Room by Smirke.

Until 1814, the Custom House stood at Sugar Quay in the parish of All Hallows Barking, immediately to the east of the present site. The site was long known as "Wool Quay", and, from the medieval period, a custom house was necessary there to levy the duty payable on exported wool. Such a building is recorded as early as 1377.

In 1825, the timber pilings which served as foundations for the custom house gave way, leading to a partial collapse of the building. On investigation, it soon became clear that the building contractors had grossly underestimated the cost of the work and had started to cut corners. The foundations were wholly inadequate, even though the ground was known to be unstable. They had used beechwood piles in the foundations rather than the oak that had been specified.

River wall, stairs and two cranes. Built for the Board of the Commissioners of Customs to the designs of John Rennie, 1817-19.
