Originally made as knitting needles for a swap, someone requested a custom item to use as pencil toppers
This custom order was one of those super special requests that challenge us more than usual and, in the process, make us more fulfilled. You may remember one book case I made 2 years ago for my friend Celeste, to illustrate her writing blog Celestices. This time, it was her sister that, from the other side of the ocean, decided to surprise her with one of my works. She asked me to make a bag and a cushion case within the same theme and with the same character, and I suggested her to give me some clue about them as sisters, and she told me about this shared memory of two little girls sitting on a bench, looking at the ocean.
For the bag, I illustrated the same girl Celeste I had imagined for the blog, but this time surrounded by a garden and a starry sky full of letters for her texts.
For the cushion case I mixed techniques, fabric painting, drawing, embroidering, and quilting for the sea, full of tiny running stitches to give it texture and movement.
I think she liked it :)

I love making these little Spool Birdies!
Not to mention they look very attractive on a willow branch for a new baby!
I really liked the way the left over gold from melting the ring looked after the leaves were cut from it. There was also an extra stone. So I made this pendant with them!
