Cusco was the capital of the Incan empire, and in recent years has become a major population center of 500,000+, with people from the countryside ("campesinos") moving in to seek better opportunities.
Cusco was the third city we visited. On the way to our hostel, Loki, these steep steps seemed like such a difficult task the first couple of days. With the elevation of the city, it really winded us. By the end though, we were charging up the steps like nothing. (side note* Loki is cool, but definitely wasn't out scene)
