If you were a teenage girl in the 80's, there are some things you'll never forget. Like big hair, New Kids on the Block, and John Cusack holding the boombox over his head in 'Say Anything.' But unlike a lot of teen heart-throbs, John didn't fade away. He became one of the most respected - and eclectic - actors of his generation. He's played everything from an American air marshal in 'Con Air' to an eccentric puppeteer inside John Malkovich's head in 'Being John Malkovich' and a hit man going to his high school reunion in 'Grosse Pointe Blank.' That movie was the first from John's own New Crime Productions. He also produced and co-wrote the screenplay for the cult classic, 'High Fidelity.' Ditto for his latest flick, 'War Inc.' It's about an American corporation run by the former U-S vice president, that occupies an imaginary country called Turaqistan.

Andy Dunne and The Boogie Band - Gary Canton on Drums, Keith Mulcahy on Guitar, Duncan Lutz on Bass, Eoghan Horgan on Keyboard and Adrian Richmond –Vocals entertained a crowded Reardans to a selection of songs from the CD, which included the song “Frozen” written exclusively for the Cork Cancer Research Centre.

Their idea to launch a CD, in memory of their close friend John Kissane from Killarney who died last year (2010) from cancer, John was the manager of The Grand, Killarney and he gave the band their first major gig, he was a huge supporter of the band right up to the very end of his life. So last night at Reardans all their hard work and effort in recording and producing the CD came to life.

About Cork Cancer Research Centre (CCRC)

The Cork Cancer Research Centre is an independent research centre focused on developing new treatments for secondary cancer. Key to centre’s success is the clear collaboration between surgeons and physicians in practice with speciality cancer researchers to apply their findings in practice. Its purpose is to provide discovery and innovations that may be applied to the prevention of the cancer in the first place or to the development of more effective treatment strategies. Our main focus is to find new treatments for patients who do not respond to conventional chemotherapy. In terms of our research activities, the Centre has brought five cancer treatments from the laboratory to clinical trial. More information about their work is available on www.ccrc.ie. Although we are living in challenging economic times, research must progress if we are to continue advancing new cancer treatments and positively impacting patient lives.

In Bryant Park I stopped by to visit Joan Cusack who was riding around in the www.cupcakestop.com truck handing out homemade cookies for donations to www.gladtogive.com . If you have a chance check out the website. Its for a really good cause. You can also fine everyone on twitter. www.twitter.com/cupcakestop and www.twitter.com/gladtogive

Production side I did this at the last minute so I had no audio recording equipment so I had to rely on the on camera mic for this. I also was a little soft on the focus mainly because I was also holding a batch of cookies while I was shooting. :) I donated $40 myself to the foundation.

Built in the 13th, abandoned in 1705, The ancient castle of the Kirwans lies beneath Knockma Hill, believed to be the legendary other world seat of Finvarra, ruler of the fairies of Connacht. An MGM film (Alfred The Great) directed by Clive Donner starring Michael York and Sinead Cusack was filmed here in 1968.

It was the first and only planned settlement in Northern Ireland. Only half of the new city of Craigavon was ever built and most of that has now been demolished. Styled in utopian 1960's British Modernism, the project was to bridge two towns in a time of sectarian violence and conflict; uniting them under a new identity. The image documents an on-going arts research project that explores the many narratives associated with the lost city of Craigavon. The development was rigorously documented from 1966 to 1983. However, due to the on-going complications attributing to its failure and the controversy surrounding the land ownership and funding, much of this evidence had disappeared. This archive was found and rescued from a skip.
