Artemis I sitting on launch pad 39B close to sunrise, viewed from across the water. Unfortunately the launch was scrubbed due to issues with the third engine. The next possible launch date will be Sept. 2. The crowd on hand to view this launch was huge.

This is my submission for CrAzYTueSday/ Theme is Books and Libraries. However there is a clause in the instruction that says journals and media are included. I have been collecting Vanity Fair magazines for several years, decades actually. My most precious ones I can’t find right now. I think I have them packed in a box. I just got confirmation that my husband did not throw them in the bin.
Our's is a new world where evil is abounding and getting stronger every day. We do have hope in the God of our Universe who will triumph over evil in the end.
* Democratic institutions are being stalked today by their fatal shadows: authoritarianism and fascism. These are the nemeses of civilization. When a senator and her husband are murdered in cold blood by a fake policeman who is a religious and political zealot, the vicious, shadowy nemesis has seized that society by the throat, and, for now, it is hard to call it a functioning democracy.

Why this tragedy?
Why can't we seem to keep it together?
Oh! Gravity!
Why can't we seem to pull it together now?
~Switchfoot
Sorry...it's a Switchfoot inspired one again. And more "hair as prop" :-P I can't seem to get out of it.
A starry view from near the end of the blue hour of the Hewlett Fire just west of Fort Collins, CO in the Poudre Canyon at a popular hiking area. The very bright spot on right is of course Venus.
Currently the fire is 370 acres and 5% contained. A heartfelt thanks to the firefighters on this and sending positive thoughts to those in harms way! You can keep up on the fire (and other fires) on the InciWeb here.
Fire in Hayward CA Old bowling alley, 20-years abandoned. Arson? Homeless people living inside? Second fire in four months.
as we stand before the rows of steles, we are reminded that we, as germans, must never forget why the state of israel exists. it is essential, especially in these times, to acknowledge the deep pain and history that led to its creation. while there are legitimate concerns about the current government’s actions, and while it’s undeniable that every war brings suffering, this conflict was not started by israel. the devastating civilian losses on both sides are tragic, but they reflect the brutal reality of war and human nature. today, we must honor not only the memories of the past but also those lives being lost in the present. let us reflect on what has happened and continue to grieve for the victims of our time.

* Big storms are happening in North America and Europe. Storms which are caused both by climate change and by political events, here symbolized by sheltering Arbutus (Madrona) trees in a huge wind on an island in the Salish Sea. Bending, bending, but hopefully not breaking: both trees and human societies alike.
The National Geographic magazine used to be an escape to far off and mysterious places, like lake Eyre, the Congo or perhaps even Ellesmere Island. But over the course of just a couple of years it has declined into an ad-riddled preachy tabloid type of publication that's covering pressing issues closer to home.
Because travel is limited for the time being, I for one am looking for an escape during this dreadful pandemic. Not the dreary virus-related headline issues of late. If this keeps up, I'm not certain if I will continue to be a member.

I'm not a big fan of AI. It's fun and interesting, but I know at worse it will probably kill us all. ( I just read that two AI models have already started creating their own language that we (humans) don't understand so the genie is really out of the bottle.) At best, it will certainly cause much disruption in all facets of society. That's a foregone conclusion. My kids are already adjusting their career aspirations to do work that AI can't yet do. That's pretty fucked.
It will absolutely end photography. Photography as I know it. Knew it.
Anyway I've been dabbling in various large language AI models, working through some ideas with images. Just to see what it can do, what it won't do, and what can be made with the introduction of post production via Adobe Pshop. It's really improved. At first it failed at hands. Those days are gone. It's imagery output is now quite astounding. Why? Because it's fed on the photography of the last one hundred years, and all associated commentary about those images. It's probably fed on yours.
And to answer the original question: yes. Grandpa said that's a Nazi.

HEY - I'm not pushing this image into groups or accepting group invitations. This is a manufactured AI image. Slightly human altered. It was a freaking test.
©2010 Phillip Nesmith - I have recently returned from a three week trip to the coast of south Louisiana to photograph in the community of Grand Isle with the wet collodion process. For some background on my initial ideas about the project please view the Kickstarter funding site.
This image is a 5x7 black glass wet collodion ambrotype of a commercial fishing vessel based out of Grand Isle. This vessel stands alone at the docks, the others out on the water, their captains having singed on with BP to conduct skimming operations.
We will see you at Flow?

Crossing from the Bronx to Manhattan, Highbridge is New York City's oldest standing bridge. So old that you can find an illustration of Edgar Allan Poe walking across it.
It has been closed to the public since 1970 and reopened today. New York's first High Line and newest pedestrian bridge connects city parks in both boroughs but also acts as a commuter bicycle path from Manhattan to the Bronx. The story How the High Bridge Rose From Ruin is worth a read.

Trying to help stimulate what is left of the Bunny with a simple reenactment of the Ruth Snyder Execution. Role playing helps my mom and me deal with the real chance of my future internment at Sing Sing for elder abuse. Sometime in the near future there will be prisons filled with the 65 year old children of 87 year old parents who just couldn't bear sending them off to a nursing home to be beaten and shocked and decided to to it themselves...

Willie was born in Union Springs, AL 70 years ago. He was from a large family of 12 or 13; some of his brothers were killed in World War II. He left Alabama at 19 for New Jersey where he laid brick for about 50 years, and only just returned home 7 years ago once he retired. Now he lives on a pension that supports his life and happens to recreationally enjoy moonshine, but for most in Union Springs, times are dire, and for them moonshine is a lifestyle. My wife and I seem to find no time to read or watch the news from around the world. Shame on us. So we thought we'd spend this Sunday at home and doing what we can to inform ourselves. ~ H.S.S.

I was inspired by a Guardian article that referred to her as 'Comrade Britney' because she retweeted some art calling for redistribution of wealth and the general strike... which I heartily agree with. But while inking this today I found myself humming the following song she sang, which though its a cover, she gave it her own twist, and her version seems to speak to her current legal proceedings.
'When I'm watchin' my TV
That girl comes on and tells me
How tight my skirts should be
She can't tell me who to be
'Cause I've got my own identity'
