In no way do I consider myself to be an accomplished photojouranlist but sometimes you just have to grab the camera and go.........November 1st, around 3pm, just after the Bears beat the Browns there was a HUGE explosion sound and the house shook!
Thinking major catastrophy I grabbed the New NIKON D90 (soo excited!) and went out to see what's up. It took quite an effort to finagle my way through the police, fire, train people, investigators and all other officials to get close enough with out some kind of credential..........I felt very covert! LOL!
Literally 150 yards from my own backyard two freight trains clipped each other on a bridge and derailed 18 hopper cars full of grain!
As you can see from the pictures it is quite a mess to say the least. The crews have been working around the clock to get things back to normal but it will be a few days easily just to clean up the mess. Then the bridge repair and road repair. Fortunately there were no injuries or vehicles involved!
The upside is I won't have to worry about hearing freight trains for a couple weeks...............
