Feb 14, 2012 Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced measures to protect Chicagoans as they receive help preparing taxes during the current tax season. The new ordinance installs safeguards against predatory, commercial tax preparers. It also empowers the City of Chicago to investigate and prosecute tax preparation businesses for deceptive practices. These businesses take advantage of taxpayers unfamiliar with the filing process and they saddle their clients with hidden charges and unfair repayment rules.
Joining the Mayor at the podium, Center for Economic Progress’ (CEP) David Marzahl, and Ladder Up’s Christine Cheng spoke of the free, high quality tax preparation their non-profit agencies provide to low-income families and of the benefits the new ordinance will provide to low-income families. CEP Pres D. Marzahl said, “This ordinance will ensure that Chicagoans are made aware of their consumer rights before they sign away their tax refunds and hard-earned income to cover exorbitant fees and high cost loans by commercial tax preparers.”
Since 1990 Center for Economic Progress (CEP) has helped hard-working, low-income families move from financial uncertainty to financial security. CEP offers free tax preparation at tax sites in Chicago, Springfield, and throughout Illinois. Tax season sites are open from late January until mid April. Other services at tax sites include: Financial Aid U (FAFSA); Checking and Savings Accounts; Prepaid Debit Card. Located at its Chicago Loop office is a year-round tax clinic providing free tax related financial services.
These services are provided with the essential assistance of donors and volunteers. Center for Economic Progress enjoys a reputation as a trusted service provider, a strong and valuable partner in the communities served, and a responsible steward of donors' investments. Charity Navigator has awarded Center for Economic Progress with its four-star (excellent) rating.

An abstract of diverging current flow, there's a strange depth of field to the photograph, which often brings me back to it to find gaping mouths and shadows that I find myself being pulled into, drawn into it like a mandala.

The Transformers: War for Cybertron has been fantastic at bringing back classic characters, giving them a glow up, and unleashing them upon the current generation as well as us old timers. It's especially great when it's a character that REALLY has been out of the spotlight for a while - such is the case of the Autobot Lieutenant Commander, Skylynx.
This figure retails for $119.99 CAD (or if you're Toys R Us, $129.99 CAD) and is a major pain in the ass to find at this time. Making it harder to find is the fact they seem to only be showing up at Toys R Us stores two units per irregular shipment, and Toys R Us stores seem to have 20 percent off sales every month.. so needless to say I'm quite happy my search actually paid off.
Skylynx has always been an interesting character and toy. As a character, if you asked an 80s kid to name the most irritating Transformer ever, there's a pretty good chance that Skylynx would be the answer. He's effectively a pompous know-it-all, and the best part of it is they (Sunbow) got an actor with a snooty English accent, which further cemented Skylynx's rep as a douche.
As a toy, Skylynx is one of those release that clearly wasn't designed by Hasbro or Takara because of wildly different it was. For those who are not in the know, Skylynx is technically a combiner, though not a Gestalt (which has five components). He's made up of two components - a Space Shuttle and a Carrier for any characters needing to hitch a ride. So rather than Transform into humanoid robots, the combined Skylynx transforms into what I would describe as a giant winged dinosaur.
Here's where things get weirder. The Shuttle can detach from the Carrier, and then each of these vehicles can turn into robotic animals. The Shuttle turns into a flying dinosaur bird thing and from what I can dig up and recall, is technically still Skylynx. The Carrier turns into a cat named Lynx, and is it's own character with a voice and everything, but he never says anything when they're combined.
The name Skylynx has been reused a handful of times through the years, but never really for a toy that operates as described above - even the Combiner Wars version was really just the combined Shuttle/Carrier form, so up until now the only "real" Skylynx was the G1 toy or the Encore reissue.
With that said, welcome to 2020.
Earthrise Skylynx is like classic Skylynx in that it is two vehicles with the aforementioned animal forms that combine together to form one large flying form. Contents include the Shuttle, the Carrier, two gun pods, and some fire blast/flame effect parts.
I have to say that for a mainline release of a figure that is probably never going to ever see a repaint or remould, Hasbro and Takara put a lot of love into making this. I actually own the Encore version, but need to dig it out for pictorial side-by-side stuff, so for now you'll have to take my word for this.
The Space Shuttle itself is about the same length as the original toy, but slimmer. Gone are the brilliant gold foil stickers and gold chromed parts, replaced with gold paint - a pity, but not the end of the world. Interesting to note is that this time, the Shuttle seems to be sponsored by NASA, even being given the name "Magnificent".
It's hard to make out, but the Shuttle is not pure while, but rather, there are areas of a light grey, which does cut the blandness of a pure white deco. Other than paint, you also get Autobot sigils on the wings. Mechanical detailing on the various panels of the Shuttle are beautiful, and I particularly love the re-entry heat shielding on the bottom of the vehicle mode. Plastic quality is at the higher quality as I expect from the Earthrise line as compared to the Cyberverse Arcee I popped open on the weekend.
Transformation into winged mode is pretty straight forward even if you've never played with this toys back in the day, with the only real trick is figuring out how to position the wings. The new wing design gives Skylynx greater breadth than before, and really works well in combined mode. The neck has been reworked so there's no Shuttle parts dangling from it, which results in a cleaner look. It's also longer than back in the day.
Speaking of the neck, this new neck has actual articulation, including a ball joint at the base of the head, and several ratcheting joints that allow for excellent posing.
The tail itself is much more articulated than back in the G1 days, but alas has lost much of it's presence as it's much, much thinner, though I can imagine this was done due to space limitations caused by the longer neck.
Perhaps the only one thing that was changed that I wish had stayed the same are the Shuttle's animal robot feet. The old legs were some what stiff due to significant fewer joints, but I seem to recall they held up the body much better than these scrawny new legs. I do appreciate the additional posing options, but I have to say I had a very hard to finding that position that allowed for display of the Shuttle Skylynx without it toppling over.
The Carrier generally resembles what it did back in the 80s... this kind of ambiguous box thing with tank treads. Transformation into Lynx is straight forward, again, even if you've never played with the original toy. Gone is the chrome as well as the motorized walking function.
Having said that, the redesign of Lynx is glorious, significantly improving the ability for this component to pose by having multi jointed legs, which include much needed ankle pivots and heel joints, along with functional needs. I also love how designers gave the front legs extra joints to make Lynx (and combined mode) broader at the front. As with the Shuttle, there's a mind boggling number of panel lines and other mechanical details.
Colours are significantly darker than the G1 vewrsion, but I'm pretty sure there's actually more paint on this version of Lynx than the G1 version, including actual paint on the tank treads
Combination of the two parts is as simple as ever, really two points (front and back) with a release lever at the front. Combined mode looks great due to its large size, as well as being cleaner as the front end of the Carrier and point where the neck comes out of the Shuttle actually line up, which was somewhat of a sore point on the original toy.
Lastly, due to its size, Earthrise Skylynx has a base mode to interlink with other figures, forming little communities or whatnot. Unlike other Leader class figures that have "base modes" because someone said so, the mode for Skylynx isn't as bad. Sure, it's still somewhat of random limb display, but the gun pods help and, more importantly, it's really just Lynx that turns into a base - Skylynx the Shuttle is left unaltered, causing the base to be more of a launching pad for the Shuttle than some generic outpost.
So in conclusion, a very worthy successor to the Skylynx name, and a fantastic improvement on the original toy while keeping the aspects of that original toy that made it fun. Base mode is harmless, and to me, is more fun than the other ones I've seen. If you know anything about Skylynx and like the character, this is one upgrade you don't want to miss.
After a few attempts of time-lapsing these types of "surface currents" this is the best I could come up with.

A teaser poster design for a new church branch we are launching called "The Current." I plan on just hanging these up inside the church and coffee shops to get people curious - not looking to advertise the time and location quite yet.
New branch is geared towards young adults (18-30). The logo for the service is featured in the bottom right hand corner - I plan on using that on the shirts, printed materials, etc.

Title : Bagh-e Fin
Other title : Bagh-i Fin; Fin Garden
Date : 1571-1629 (construction) 1797-1834 (reconstruction)
Current location : Kashan, Esfahan, Iran
Description of work : The Bagh-e Fin was developed during the reign of the Safavid ruler Shah Abbas I (1571-1629) on the route to his new capital at Isfahan. Contained within massive enclosure walls and laid out on a series of low terraces, the garden follows a quadripartite chahar bagh scheme divided by the crossing of two watercourses which also line the perimeter of the garden. The crossing is marked by a two-story pavilion, while garden spaces and pathways fill the space. An additional watercourse, running adjacent to the central one, emanates from a small, but elaborately painted, pool house. The paintings date to the reign of the Qajar ruler Fath Ali Shah (1797-1834), who also replaced most of the earlier buildings. The water is delivered by a qanat (underground irrigation canal) and is forced through numerous fountains by gravity. Various hammams (bathhouses), residences, and a museum line the sides. It was declared a national monument in 1935 and has since undergone extensive repairs. (Sources: Hobhouse, Penelope. Gardens of Persia. Kales Press, 2004; Faghih, Nasrine and Amin Sadeghy. 6th Battalion Royal Australian Regiment (6 RAR)
The 6th Battalion was first raised at Enoggera on the 6th of June 1965. The Battalion has served twice in Vietnam and has recently served in East Timor and currently has members serving in Iraq. The Battalion was involved in the famous battle of Long Tan and one of its companies received the United States Presidential Distinguished Unit Citation.
From ABC
A sea of people, including family and friends of returned Australian soldiers will line the streets of Brisbane on Saturday to welcome home the soldiers of the 7th Brigade and to mark the end of their contribution to operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and East Timor in 2010.
The Welcome Home Parade will honour the Brisbane based 6th Battalion Royal Australian Regiment (6 RAR) who are returning from active duty in Afghanistan.
The march across the city will be made up of Artilleryman, Signallers, The Light Horse Brigade, 6 RAR and The Engineer Regiment.
Starting in Southbank, returned soldiers will march over the Victoria Bridge and make their way into the CBD, marching down George St, Adelaide St, and looping around to Ann St where they will finish up at King George Square.
Graham Smith from the 6th Battalion Royal Australian Regiment Association says this is an important time for the returned soldiers.
"We are so highly thought of all around the world in terms of soldiering and these boys have represented themselves very well.
"They've been in arduous (and) very dangerous circumstances, they haven't complained, they have acquitted themselves in the greatest traditions of 6 RAR and the Australian Army and I think they deserve to be acknowledged for what they have done, on this day, rather than waiting for Anzac Day, when we acknowledge the Australian contribution to defence right around the world", he says.
Speaking to ABC Local Radio in Brisbane Mr Smith explained that the march also was a time to honour the memory of the soldiers from 6 RAR that have fallen in the line of duty.
As a result of the Australian defence support in Afghanistan this year, six serving Queenslanders won't be returning home.
In August 2010 6 RAR Private's Grant Kirby, 35, and Tomas Dale, 21, were killed by a roadside bomb.
One month earlier another 6 RAR Private, Nathan Bewes, 23, was killed and the Brisbane-based 2nd Combat Engineer Regiment also lost Sappers Jacob Moerland, 21, and Darren Smith, 25, in June.
Whether you agree or disagree with Australia's involvement in overseas defence, Mr Smith, who was part of the original 6th Battalion that was formed in 1965, says the march is particularly important for the soldiers themselves.
"The significance of this march brings me back to when I returned from Vietnam in 1967, and we marched through Brisbane...that was such a proud occasion and it just made me feel, and I'm sure it was the same for all my mates, that what we endured for the 12 months previous was worthwhile that we were appreciated.
"It will be special, and I'm travelling from my home in Wide Bay to attend", he says.

in response to questions - using Nikon DSLR with manual settings (usually quite long exposures), and quite old (25 or so years) Tokina AT-X f2.5 90mm macro* (which unfortunately requires a "matched converter" for 1:1) (returned the new Nikon macro purchased with the camera because it was clearly inferior to this lens - this is amazing to me and says something about current photography)
*finding that others feel the same about this lens, e.g. makingnottaking.blogspot.com/2010/05/tokina-90mm-f25-at-x... who says:
"How does the Tokina 90mm fair? I think it's safe to say by this point, you know, this lens is incredible. I really cannot say more. This lens is sharp wide open. And not consolation-sharp, tack sharp. I consistently use this lens wide open. The bokeh is just as a lens nicknamed "The Bokina" should be: beautifully soft, smooth, and aesthetic. The coatings provide great optical performance and contrast. I love the color I get from this lens. Of course there is a hint of CA wide open, ever so slightly in extreme highlights. But I honestly have no cons with this lens. If you have the chance at one, buy it. You cannot beat the performance for the prices of some of these (I say some since due to the hype, the prices have been on the rise. $550 can buy modern macros with AF and newest technology coatings)."

Police are currently using underhanded tactics to arrest or fine Graffiti artists looking to paint their artwork legally, without the hassle of authority intervention. Southbank is well known for its skate spot underneath the Queen Elizabeth Hall right by the BFI / Royal National Theatre and for years its walls have been covered in artwork created by some of the UK's most recognisable graffiti/ street artists..as well as visitors from abroad, much to the delight of those who use the space (skaters/bmx'ers). There was even a commission painted by South African artist Robin Rhode in October 2008...which raises the question "Why should only selective people be allowed to paint in this open public space?" and "Why should artists be criminalized when seeking to practice their Art form within the boundary of the law?".
The walls, described by passers by as "part of the charm of Southbank" have been left adorned with Graffiti, seemingly to entice unsuspecting artists to paint them, almost like a 'honey trap' in order for the met. police to earn a couple of hundred pounds a week off arrests made/ fines handed out. all without even any signage warning of the dubious legality or expensive consequences resulting from being caught painting there. It seems clear that yet again a Graffiti wall in the UK has be turned 'illegal' overnight without prior notice or warning..
Reports also show that when asked where is legal to paint arresting officers simply shrugged and said "i don't know..". Disgusting.
Winds were gusting up to 45 mph this morning. It was a scramble to stay low and try to catch the light fleeting across these amazing peaks. I used a 6 stop neutral density filter for this image to smooth out the choppy waters and clouds.
I recently removed all the cables and untangled the mess on, under and around my desk. I then set up the second monitor, and tied everything down with copious amounts of cableties.

This is a photograph from the annual Na Fianna AC "Bob Heffernan" 5KM Road Race and Fun Run which was held in Johnstownbridge, Co. Kildare, Ireland on Tuesday 20th May at 20:00. This race commemorates the years of work and volunteering that local man Bob Heffernan gave to Meath, Leinster, and Irish athletics from grass roots upwards and his work with the host club Na Fianna AC. The race, known affectionately by club-members as simply "Bob's race" is a fitting tribute to commemorate his contribution to this sport. Today's race was the biggest yet with 505 registered participants. There was a wonderful atmosphere as runners from all over Leinster gathered for a great night's racing.
This race is part of the Meath Road Race League despite the fact that the race is run completely in County Kildare. The Na Fianna club, who organise the race, have a catchment area of South Meath and North West Kildare. The current route for the race has stayed the same over the past few years. However previous to that the race was held in Enfield and also Rathmoylan. This road race has grown from strength to strength year on year and is now one of the premier 5KM races in Ireland and one of the top club attended races in Leinster. The race starts on the busy Enfield Endenderry road and this requires a big effort from stewards and marshalls. However, as always, the event was a resounding success with personal bests and great runs from many of the participants.
Timing and event management was provided by Precision Timing. Results are available on their website at www.precisiontiming.net/result/racetimer with additional material available on their Facebook page (www.facebook.com/davidprecisiontiming?fref=ts) See their promotional video on YouTube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-7_TUVwJ6Q
Reading on a Smartphone or tablet? Don't forget to scroll down further to read more about this race and see important Internet links to other information about the race! You can also find out how to access and download these photographs.
This photograph is part of a large set of photographs taken at the finish line area of the race.
Overall Race Summary
Participants: There were approximately 500 participants .
Weather: A clear evening with little breeze in the face of runners for the first 1km of the race.
Course: This course has a now near legendary reputation. It is fully left handed with very little in the way of inclines. Good road surface. The race started on the new Edenderry to Enfield road.
Refreshments: Lots and lots as is the tradition with Meath Road Running Events in the Hamlet Hotel afterwards.

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.
Don't like your photograph here?
That's OK! We understand!
If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.
I want to tell people about these great photographs!
Great! Thank you! The best link to spread the word around is probably http://www.flickr.com/peterm7/sets
I am currently experimenting with an Apple XR iPhone and today I imported into Lightroom a number HEIC image files including this image. I did notice that there was a degree of 'blue cast' which I adjusted for using the latest version of Luminar.
HEIC has been provided in the June 2018 releases of Lightroom CC 1.4, Lightroom Classic CC 7.4, and Camera Raw 10.4 running on macOS High Sierra v10.13 or later.
High Efficiency Image File Format (HEIF) is a file format for individual images and image sequences. It was developed by the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) and is defined by MPEG-H Part 12 (ISO/IEC 23008-12). The MPEG group claims that twice as much information can be stored in a HEIF image as in a JPEG image of the same size, resulting in a better quality image.
HEIF image files are stored with filename extensions .heif or .heic.
