Australian coins. From the top 5 cent, 2 dollar, 10 cent, 1 dollar, 20 cent, 50 cent.

Happy Macro Monday!

A deep dive into the broken dollar bowl reveals the simple truth, US coins are mostly copper.

US paper currency (some older than others, and all with an image of old white men), and a dandelion seed for size. For #MacroMondays.

This Laowa lens multiplies by two. Manual focus, manual exposure (about f/5.6) with five lights surrounding the currency. This lens seems to eat light ;-)

The penny is just a lucky penny no longer in circulation. So it is extra lucky lol.

In the second century AD Emperor Hadrian introduced a number of coins that depicted a female figure who personified Britain, with the label 'BRITANNIA'. When the Romans left Britain in the early 400s, Britannia vanished from coins and wasn't to appear again for several centuries.

I though that showing the most invisible part of a bank note would be fun... If you hit with a white light on the Big Ben..

On October 25th 2010 The Canadian Royal Mint issued its 3rd circulation Poppy Coin which marked the 65th anniversary (1945-2010) of the end of WW II, and to honour Canada's War Vets. The first 25 cent poppy coin was issued in 2004 and was the worlds first coloured circulation coin.

Currency and/or Bank Notes.

... as always, I'm grateful for a theme that allows me to include any of my parents' or in-laws' possessions. This eclectic mix of currency belonged to my dad. To my knowledge he never left the UK but he seemed to have accumulated some currency from the USA along with a sixpence from 1967

The threepence, which is often expressed as 3d, is a 12-sided coin that first entered circulation in the mid-16th century during the era of King Edward VI. It was worth 1/80th of a pound, or ¼ of a shilling. The coin, albeit in several incarnations, remained in circulation right up until the decimalisation system came into effect.

Theme : "CURRENCY" - January 31, 2022

Brazil 1000 Cruzeiros banknote from 1990-1994 HMM !.

Like many this week I found myself rummaging through little used drawers looking for some exotic coins for this week's Macro Mondays currency challenge. l have no idea where this 100 lire coin came from, probably a work trip I took to Milan back in the early 90s. It goes without saying that the lire is now gone the way of the Dodo bird and is officially extinct, the introduction of the Euro currency putting paid to it and to many other venerable european currencies about 20 years ago now.

To shoot this I used one extension tube on my Olympus Macro lens as well as a Raynox 250 magnification lens attached to the front of the macro lens. My intention for this was to get the face to appear as 3-D as possible, mostly by using a hand held light source shining in from the left side.

Happy Macro Monday!

This week’s theme: currency

Macro Mondays...

This gold charm belonged to my Aunt Nettie who passed away in 1995...

it hung from her charm bracelet along with others...

it is approx. 1/2 inch cube.. with a tightly folded one dollar bill inside.

I remember there was a tiny hammer that belonged with it... just in case of an emergency, you could break the 'glass'!

It has been safely stored away for years and I enjoyed taking it out, holding it and thinking of her... I miss her dearly...

A stack of special editions…

Today's theme for The Macro Mondays group is currency.

The large One Penny coin is from The Commonwealth of Australia. Coins issued in 1927 were withdrawn at decimalisation in 1966 after 39 years in circulation, but have never been formally demonetised and are still legal tender!

A Farthing was worth quarter of a penny. It ceased to be legal tender on the 31st December 1960.

The Penny Farthing bicycle name came from the British Penny and Farthing coins. The Penny being being much larger than the Farthing.

Thanks for visiting.

Happy Macro Monday......
