Common Cuckoo, Thursley Common Surrey UK, dug my old laptop out while computer being repaired, not quite as good as 23" screen on desktop PC for editing photos though

Cardamine Pratensis - a pink wild flower that was growing together with the Speedwell I posted yesterday.

It is also known as 'The Cuckoo Flower' in Britain and is so named as its appearance is said to coincide with the return of the cuckoo. Not sure where they return from - Cuckooville probs.

In folklore it was also said to belong to the fairy folk and was considered bad luck to bring it indoors

I spoke with a farmer about a week ago who said he had heard the cuckoo - so there you go, scoffers beware..... go on, go outside prop a ladder up, pick some Cardamine, walk under the ladder to get back in the house and then open an umbrella as you are arranging the flowers in a vase in the kitchen. I dare you oh doubting scoffer ......live on the edge.....

Thanks to all who take the time to Comment etc...it is appreciated..

what a lucky moment ... I heard a cuckoo, swirled around and was lucky to get a nice shot of him

was für ein Glücksmoment ... Ich hörte einen Kuckuck, wirbelte herum und hatte das Glück, ihn noch im Flug zu erwischen

I have had a poor season with the Cuckoo's, this is the best I could do this morning on Exmoor!

Common Cuckoo (male), Surrey UK

Heavily cropped image but it's my first Cuckoo :) It was fascinating watching just after this was taking it was chased away by a pair of Medow pipits which are tiny compared to the Cuckoo!

Nice to see a Cuckoo quite close, away from Thursely Common.

Taken on Dartmoor!

More often heard than seen, a Male Cuckoo. An increasingly scarce sight & sound these days though, sadly.

Taken in Norfolk.

I heard my first Chiffchaff of the year at the weekend, which was so uplifting. Another welcome contributor to the Springtime soundtrack is the Cuckoo, of course. These are more often heard than seen, in my experience at least. I was therefore thrilled with the opportunity to photograph this showy & very vocal Male, a couple of years ago.

Male Cuckoo, photographed in less troubled times, last Spring. Amazing birds to watch & photograph.

Colin the Cuckoo does like to show off a bit, Thursley Common Surrey UK

Everyone with recognise the call of a Cuckoo, but seeing one can sometimes prove challenging. Watching & photographing this displaying Male at the weekend was pretty special.

Norfolk - May 2019.

Cuckoo (male) Thursley Common Surrey UK

I've just returned from my annual spring trip to Scotland where, once again, the star of the show was a Cuckoo that regularly visited the cottage garden to feed. A different bird to last year, but just as obliging.

Cuckoo - Cuculus Canorus

Taken a couple of weeks ago, bit Distant!!

Yellow-Billed Cuckoos have a primal-sounding, croaking call that they often give in response to loud noises. Their tendency to call at the sound of thunder has led to their colloquial name, the “rain crow.”

Thank you for looking at my images.
