Monument istoric clasat sub nr. B-II-m-B-19722.

A very elegant eclectic style house, built in 1886 (date inscribed on the pediments). The interiors are decorated with somptuous frescos in ”Pompeian” style by F. Titte and V. Viedemann (from Vienna). Here lived the soprano Elena Teodorescu, wife of Nae Leonard, ”the prince of the operetta” (1886-1928) and a local star of the Bucharest opera in the interwar period. After her death, the house was donated to the Romanian Academy for the purpose of establishing a memorial house, but apparently Teodorescu`s heritage was scattered during the Communist era and the house let to a great number of tenants.
Historical landmark code: B-II-m-B-19722.
Suggested audition: N. Leonard, Creola (Columbia D15703, 1926-7?)

Cu Chi Tunnels is about 40 km northwest of Ho Chi Minh City in Southern Vietnam. The Cu Chi Tunnels are an elaborate underground community made up of 250 km of tunnels and chambers below the city.
The tunnels were dug with simple tools and bare hands during the French occupation in the 1940s, and further expanded during the Vietnam War in the 1960s to provide refuge and a defensive advantage over the American soldiers. Despite all the bombings in their town, the Cu Chi people were able to continue their lives beneath the soil, where they slept, ate, planned attacks, healed their sick, and taught their young. Some even wed and gave birth underground, but over 10,000 lost their lives here.

A hidden hideout at the Củ Chi tunnels visitor centre. Whilst looking impossibly small, this enlarged hole is able to fit tourists. Even the local guide, who was quite small by western standards, wasn’t able to fit into the real entrances that they used during the Vietnam war.
The process is to locate the hole, which makes a wooden sound when stepped on since there needs to be a wooden frame for the lid to sit in in order to keep the rain out. Then move the lid to the side and slide in at an angle. When at the waist, cover the lid with leaves again and hold it above the head whilst crouching down.
