s'Morgens met de bus naar Cu Chi waar de Vietcong 250 km aan tunnels gegraven heeft en de Amerikanen tot wanhoop dreef. Weer erg éénzijdig maar wel indrukwekkend.

He managed along the years to make of Caru' cu Bere one of the most appreciated divertisment places from Bucharest.
The tunnels at Cu Chi have become the nation's leading tourist attraction, according to our guide, Thang. The propaganda movie before the tour is almost laughable. Blaring music and ancient news footage with smiling villagers "killed by american bomb which kill even duck". No laughing matter... Almost like Disneyland Far East complete with Viet Cong characters, both alive and mannequin. This VC pops up for pictures and small people can try to fit through the opening. There was an extensive tunnel complex here during the war, used to escape bombs, avoid patrols and rally for attacks on Saigon The claim that the tunnels went under the american base at Cu Chi is a bit much.. There were some interesting methods used to foil detection, such as trapping cooking smoke and piping it to another location, to be released slowly in the morning fog. Air intakes were disquised as anthills. Strange to see a festive atmosphere where so much misery occurred on both sides. A few westerners really got into it, buying VC type duds and dressing the part. I believe one French girl might have converted to communism during the tour, flitting about in her new costume.

The beerhouse from Stavropoleos Street is a traditional place, where each object has its own story. It is one of the few places in Bucharest where it seems that nothing has changed, and the architecture reminds, to the ones who step into, why Bucharest was once considered to be the little Paris. The mural paintings, the stained glasses and the carved cross-beams are distinctive elements of the beerhouse. The old time party spirit is still present in these days, the atmosphere reminding of Bucharest's exuberance from the XXth century beginnings. The place's symbol is Old Ghita, whose silhouette guards even today the right cross-beam. Old Ghita, the cellar man, worked some dozens of years within Caru cu Bere, moving up and down the stairs to the cellar cram-full with wine and beer barrels together with its unseparable lantern.
