An essential part of attending the Vivid Sydney 2023 festival is to also visit one of the cafes in 'The Rocks'.
This is a flat white coffee and 'Espresso Coffee Crunch' cake.
At 'The Rocks Cafe'.
99 George Street, 'The Rocks'.
Sydney

This is an historic address which dates back to the late 1700s. Here is the history:
The site at '99 George Street' has been in continuous usage since the late 1700s. It was part of the first Sydney hospital grounds, standing just south to the site, with the Assistant Surgeon’s residence occupied by Francis Greenway, the convict architect who had been transported for forging a building contract in 1814.
In 1861, for an unknown reason, the buildings at 95-99 George Street were vacated and the buildings demolished. The land remained vacant until circa 1867 when the present building was constructed.
They were occupied in 1868, with a butcher in No. 95 and a grocer in No. 99, and these buildings continued to be used for those businesses for the next 20 years. '99 George Street' was continually used as a grocers and run by a number of tenants until the 1970s. In the late 1970s and early 1980s the Sydney Cove Redevelopment Authority undertook restoration and reconstruction works on the terrace of shops.
Since the late 1980’s, '99 George Street' has been occupied by 'The Rocks Café', where it now serves flat white coffee and Espresso Coffee Cake, lol.

Green-backed Heron snatching a metamorphosing tadpole (note the tadpole's tail) as it hunts the murky waters of Hubbard Pond. Within about 30 seconds, the Gb-H had seized and swallowed the tadpole whole. The action caught me by surprise. As luck would have it, I was ready and got the photograph.
The Gb-H is a fairly common migrant to the area. It arrives in late May and exits in September. Frogs are common and abundant in this pond, as well.

The last few posts of Ollie have shown his chilled out cool side.
However he is also a ferocious killing machine.

Love the sound of the leaves as they crunch underfoot! Nothing like the sound of Autumn to complete the effect! Have a great Halloween everyone...off to sell flowers in Eastern Poland for the week...I knew Halloween would look different this year, but wow..
When you can hear the salmon bones crunching as the bear eats them, it can be a little disconcerting, especially in the quiet of night when it's all you hear.
This sow was thoroughly enjoying her salmon here and had a nice firm grip on its head. She had cubs that were off playing for a while and left her alone, much to her appreciation I'm sure. Mom time.
Yellow-crowned Night Heron nabs a small catch.
FYI friends, I have been on a bit of an odyssey the past month but am now back online and mainly shooting from South Carolina. Will share highlights of an east-coast journey over the next several weeks.

The rising sun gently touches a barn with an active history but a longstanding idleness leaves little to provide a sense of warmth. It once wasn’t so.
Sixty five years ago I would often leave the early morning warmth of our oil-stove heated house and step out into the cold winter air that threatened to deform my nostrils and make my ears lose their outer fur. The trip across our yard to the barn was one filled with the rhythmic sounds of the quiet crunch of my buckled overshoes as they made stubbed footprints in newly fallen snow from the night before.
In warmer months the walk to the barn to milk cows and feed the calves did not seem like a very long one. Often our dog and sometimes even a cat would greet me and saunter alongside like they knew something I didn’t.
But cold winter mornings were a different solitary experience especially if we had a biting north wind that would make my eyes water, ears sting and my mind ponder why my folks ended up in this awful climate. It was always a relief to reach the barn door and be greeted inside by the warmth and smells of livestock who were eager to see their breakfast provider approach.
I find it intriguing in my old age how childhood experiences can be recalled decades later and along with the memories come vivid recall of smells, sensations of heat or cold and all of it contributing to a lasting mosaic that formed a pattern of life.

Sometimes we only see images of bright red leaves with perfect oranges and golds, so I thought I'd find a crunchy old leaf about to fall and play with the light and colours from the leaves in the background making an interesting bokeh and unusual crunchy focal point.
Have a lovely weekend, I won't be around for a few days and will hopefully be back in a day or two.
Ladies, its October, It's 'Breast Cancer Awareness Month" please check your breasts... Take five minutes and examine yourself thoroughly! including your armpits (I was unaware armpits needed checking) I should have known this having had something before in my breast. Be good and stay safe.
