No, it is not show window, not shop of any kinds, it is an art space just opened, and is holding exhibition. The two old fashion CRT monitors and LED display board are part of the video art exhibition. The art space is only about 2ft depth, visitors have to stand on street to see the art work through the glass window, but it open 24 hours a day. The name is called PRÉCÉDÉE and is located in Mong Kok of Hong Kong. Here is their web page:https://www.facebook.com/precedeeartspace/ in case you are interested.

I guess this is the smallest but most innovative art space in the world ? Let me know if you encounter any art space or gallery of smaller size : ))

Two years ago, my nth monitor died on me so I was loaned this monster in a state of emergency. I decided to fulfill my midichlorian destiny and finish TIE Fighter sixteen years after I bought it.

My dear friend brought me this wonderful eatable (I hope) souvenir purchased in a supermarket located in an American PX (military zone where there are shops of foreign nationality). On the background the monitor shows a page of a Flickr american user that took a pic to the same cup of Ramen Noodles that I'm eating. It seems that in USA this type of food is loved.

I must admit, however, that the taste is not bad, but ..

Now I am sorry but I'm not feeling so well

As I'm typing, my back is just starting to stiffen up nicely. :/

I imagine that most people reading this are probably doing so on a flat panel TFT display, either as part of a laptop or a separate VDU. There's lots of reasons for this - they're small, convenient, use less power and produce a lot less heat. That's one of the reasons why they are good things to use in schools - put 30 CRT monitors in a room and you're going to know the meaning of heat, as my friend Keith knows only too well.

The problem is that as you modernise your school with newer monitors you need to get rid of the old ones, and thanks to the nasty materials in there you can't just toss them in a skip. Monitors are now classed as toxic waste as part of the legislation tied into the WEEE Directive.

This means that they get tossed into cupboards and forgotten about. Well, today was the day to empty the cupboards of CRT monitors - which incidentally is what is in the picture. We're blessed with the services of a local firm, Northwest Electronics Recycling, who basically take the components of the monitors and shred them into pellets for recycling, saving viable kit where they can for redeployment.

We rather underestimated the number of monitors! We were thinking 60-70 but reckon by the time both cupboards were empty we had probably moved 130-140 monitors! They were pretty much all 17" or 19" and they are NOT light. Consequently I now know the meaning of pain. ;)

In their day these were expensive and highly valued. Today, they are stacked in the hall waiting to be taken to the recycle center.

Shadow used to love lying on top of the monitor, especially when it was in use because it was all warm. This one time, he fell asleep on top of the monitor. How cute.
