Who said I have crow's feet?
A quick winter storm left the neighborhood crows hungry and looking for a meal...and as luck would have it, it was trash day!
There was no denying the evidence they left behind.
Naomi Fenlin administered Thermage skin tightening on the delicate skin right beneath the eyes.

This wonderful woman was gracious enough to allow me to take her informal, existing light portrait while I was visiting a church in Cebu, Philippines. Her weathered skin and receeding lower teeth added to the glow of her warmth and joy.

Aunt Sadie warned the troublesome tike that playin in the punkin patch on All Hallow's E'en would give her crow's feet and that she might get bit by a punkin bat and just float away. Carly Crow said Aunt Sadie was a crazy ole coot. The rats laughed and laughed.
"There's a sadness inside me. I only started noticing it a few years ago. I think it's always been there. I've been able to suppress it, until very recently. It's getting harder to control though. In my head I mean. I have to concentrate on other things to block it out. Focus on something that makes me feel indifferent so I can fall asleep.
I'm scared that soon I won't have the energy to keep the sadness at bay."

Happy New Year's day everyone!!! Have FUN!!! It looked to me like he was making a peace symbol...:-)
Thanks for all your comments and views in the last years..I know not everything I post is "the best photo" but often my intent is just to share some smiles and memories, so bear with me for another year to come and I promise variety, if nothing else :-)
Just to confirm my existence *giggle*, I thought I'd post a rare sighting of me on a spring day recently. This is my minimalism look... brows, liner, rouge, and lipstick. I really like being able to get my face on in under ten minutes!!
(PS... I didn't Photoshop this, so all the crowsfeet I've earned are there for inspection *proud smile*!)
Number One: Crow's feet.

I've had this in mind for ages. Ever since I saw an ad for some kind of skin cream, which promised to address "the seven signs of aging." So yeah... I'm working on a series of seven. (Not the same ones the skin cream promised to address, I'm sure.) And this is the first one that's actually managed... after living in my head for a really long time... to make it to fruition.
Man, I can't explain how GOOD it feels to get this picture out of me. I started shooting actual crows' feet a few years ago, with this concept in mind. But I had the hardest time finding a way to make it work as a photograph. Finally I realized that Doris Gravlin's dress could help. So... yeah. I feel like I just gave birth after being several years overdue. (Thank goodness photos don't need aftercare, like babies.)

Smoking and its effects on the skin.
Beyond its known links to cancer, lung and heart disease, smoking is now thought to be associated with premature skin ageing and delayed wound healing, as well as a number of skin disorders, particularly psoriasis, hidradenitis suppurativa and cutaneous lupus erythematosus.
Smoking and ageing skin
Smoking can accelerate the skin ageing process in the skin. Ageing of the skin means that it droops, develops wrinkles and lines and can become dry and coarse with uneven skin colouring and broken blood vessels (telangiectasia). Smokers can appear gaunt and develop an orange or grey complexion.
Since the 1970's studies have shown that smoking results in more premature facial wrinkling than sun exposure. Lines around the eyes called “crow's feet” can develop at an earlier age. Multiple vertical lines around the mouth also occur and are called “smoker's lines”. These effects continue into old age. By the age of 70 years, smoking 30 cigarettes a day could lead to the equivalent of an extra 14 years of skin ageing.
I seem to have a knack for focusing on bird's feet
Aug 11/11 update......somehow 3 different people found this old shot this evening and faved it.......so I decided to post it to a few more groups. I wonder how they found it after all this time.........?
AAHHH......tumblr and friendfeed. the world of blogging. Thank you for crediting me, but I would prefer to be asked first. As a couple of people have done. Thanks!

Research strongly supports people with
hearing loss often feel isolated from their

This sense of isolation can lead to
depression, poor self-esteem, self-pity,

loss of relationships, and loss of love.

Nine Horses || Snow Borne Sorrow
Taken by my father in 1967 when he was working as an Army orthopaedist in the Viet Nam War. Our middle-school child is doing a project on his grandfather, so we had to scan some old photos from his Viet Nam scrapbook.
A member of one of the photography forums I belong to suggested that I convert this portrait into a black and white. The color version can be seen below.
This set of close ups has been taken by my phones secondary camera so the quality isn't the sharpest. I see these as my honest photos poor skin and crowsfeet are what make me. This was taken when I got home, the time would have been about 11pm, and the make up has been on for four hours and was applied after a long day at work, I hadn't had a shave since 8pm the previous day! I can't really be too critical with all that being taken into account but I am :-(.
That all said I really like these close up selfie shots I wont post to many honest :-)
Contrary to popular belief, bad press and stereotyping of the Middle East - Jordan is actually one of the safest countries I have traveled to in the world.
Jordanians are a passionate and proud people and the country truly welcomes visitors with open arms. Despite being squeezed between the hotspots of Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Israel & the Palestinian Territories, Jordan is probably the safest and most stable country in the region. Regardless of your nationality, you'll be greeted with nothing but courtesy and hospitality in this gem of a country. (From Lonely Planet)
Jordan has a pleasant surprise for you waiting around every corner - stylish chic & cool Amman, the best preserved Roman city (Jerash) with a gladiator show, Islamic hedonism in desert citadels, floating on the Dead sea caked in black mud followed by champagne breakfast, crazy mosaics, huge crusader castles, the dramatic reveal of the Treasury in candlelight @ Petra by night and/but the mesmerizing mysterious Monastery around the mountain peak being the true highlight of Petra ... As they say, if you like what you see, look a little further and you might get more!

In San Francisco my hair was a poofy mass of curls -- I loved it! To try to protect it from the wicked cool rain shower in my luxury hotel room, I wore a shower cap for the first time.
90% of this photo was a mistake and I absolutely love it. One of my favourites from the whole trip, and my absolute favourite self-portrait ever.
The ideals of beauty as proclaimed in advertisements and commercials are difficult to meet when you grow older. But that is nothing to be ashamed of. In my opinion, it is precisely the imperfection that makes people interesting and beautiful. Showing your wrinkles when aging, instead of hiding them behind a mask of makeup, reflects your wisdom.

You Know You're Getting Old When...
You're asleep, but others worry that you're dead.
You have a party and the neighbors don't even realize it.
You can live without sex, but not without glasses.
Your back goes out more than you do.
You quit trying to hold your stomach in, no matter who walks into the room.
You buy a compass for the dash of your car.
You are proud of your lawn mower.
Your best friend is dating someone half their age... And isn't breaking any laws.
Your arms are almost too short to read the newspaper.
You sing along with the elevator music.
You would rather go to work than stay home sick.
You enjoy hearing about other people's operations.
You consider coffee one of the most important things in life.
You no longer think of speed limits as a challenge.
People call at 9 pm. And ask, "Did I wake you?"
You answer a question with "Because I said so!"
You send money to PBS.
The end of your tie doesn't come anywhere near the top of your pants.
You take a metal detector to the beach.
You wear black socks with sandals.
You know what the word equity means.
You can't remember the last time you laid on the floor to watch television.
Your ears are hairier than your head.
You talk about "good grass" and you're referring to someone's lawn.
You get into a heated argument about pension plans.
You got cable for the weather channel.
You can go bowling without drinking.
Along with the new age comes new hope for this year.
Normally I'd wish for love and career, this year I am just going to wish for family health and their well being....and some more facial hair growth, thought I'd slide that in there. ;-)
yesterday at the ocean. ... somewhat overcast at first, but always wonderful to be at the seaside.... and of course it's a crow hang-out!
Everytime John comes round I always get a few shots in. This time I went for a tighter shot. The Sigma 50/1.4 gave me a realy thin depth of field and lovely out of focus areas. Really happy with how it turned out.
Your comments are always welcome.
this is a carrion crow that was rescued when it was very young, and hand reared
he’s only a year old now, and so adorable, you can hand feed him and he takes sunflower seeds really gently from you with his wonderful strong beak
he’s also really playful, making up games where he brings you a twig and offers you it then plays almost like a dog, even fetching it back if you throw it – such a character!
this shot is of him inside his cage, but its not ofter you get to see real crow’s feet this close!

i pulled into the turn lane knowing full well that this particular light had a short cycle.
my window was halfway down because even though it's February, the temperature this afternoon in Houston, Texas was a gloriously non-humid 76 degrees.
(aside: it should be a law that anyone caught driving around with car windows up on such a nice non-humid day in Houston, Texas should pay a fine whose collected monies go towards the electric bill in cooling centers for the elderly and homeless during the hellish summer months.)
standing ahead on the median was a homeless person with cardboard sign that simply said "HUNGRY".
he looked down the row of cars, scanning for the one pair of eyes that might meet his weirdly smooth yet leathery face.
i thought about handing him a dollar, and then decided on a whim that today wasn't my day (other days sometimes are, it's more of a gut feeling/timing thing).
four cars ahead, a window buzzed down and an arm held out carton of McDonald's fries and a small wrapped thing which i can only assume by it's size was the burger in a kid's meal.
the man trotted up to the window and grabbed the items.
the window buzzed up again, and the light turned green long enough to let two cars turn.
TWO! i kid you not.
it was then i realized the wisdom in his choice of location.
still clutching the sign that stated in big bold black capital letters "HUNGRY", he placed the burger gingerly down on the concrete and then proceeded to stuff his face with french fries. and i do mean stuff. the more i watched, the more comical it became
(not in a classist, better than thou way, but more in the juxtapositional sense).
at one point, "HUNGRY" sign still proudly displayed to the outside, his maw was so full of fries that they stuck out on all sides like hay, (or perhaps straws or perhaps that octopus thing from the Pirates of the Carribbean films that i never bothered to watch, or perhaps more like those guys back in the day that would stuff their mouths full of cigarettes in an attempt to break a world record.) and moved up and down outside his mouth with every interior chew.
i reached for my phone wanting to document this rare moment, not for the exploitation of the homeless, but for the comedic value of him not being able to put down the "HUNGRY" sign despite stuffing his face for all to see.
'can't put down the sign, might miss out.'
or FOMO as the kids call it these days.
he was still scarfing down french fries when our eyes met.
he stopped chewing long enough to give me a huge grin. the kind you imagine encountering in a small town where everyone waves, and seems just a little bit overwelcoming and overfriendly, but never end up doing you no harm.
it would've been a beautiful picture.
i put my phone down, and managed to smile back before the light turned green.
and although i didn't capture the scene, his face is burned into my memory banks forevermore.
/it was surreal, and creepy in that Stephen King sort of way -
you're in the part of the book where everything is okay so far and you don't know who's harmless and who's terrifying just yet, so you trust everyone and no one simultaneously. and everything has that weird summer haze glow air of innocence to it, but you know that something completely fucked up is waiting with incredibly morbid patience just around the bend...
if you let it.
suddenly you remember the
strange shadows across the face, the lack of teeth in the bottom row, the ragged way the word "HUNGRY" started out with a large powerful "H" and then each letter progressively became smaller as if an ethusiastic someone had the passion for life beaten out of them until they felt very very tiny.
memory tunnel visions in on that grinning clownish howdy doody maw jammed full of terrible for you fast food -
gluttonous indulgence joy riding on slovenly waves of destitution.
i guess you can boil it down to strange paranoia.
the paranoia you imagine in retrospect after a seemingly harmless event has occured.
and the unnerving part of it is that your brain has not only
recorded the scene, but recorded multiple versions of the scene without you even realizing it.
you now have the ability with each rememberance to make
it creepier
or happier
depending on your shifting moods.
on another day you might recall how the sun glinted softly off the wispy blond locks on his head, how the crowsfeet wrinkled beautifully around his greenish eyes, how that smile filled with fried potatoes seemed so innocently joyfully genuine, or how happy that arm reaching out of the car seemed when it gave away the food. you might revel in the
good vibes of a small act of kindness, and use it as a reminder to yourself to carry that kindness forward.
the only way to describe that feeling is a happy sort of creepy and even that's not correct.
