"Crowntail Betta" capture the moving moment beautiful of siam betta fish in thailand on black background
I printed these as 20x20 metallic prints and mounted them on thick gator board. They are separated by 3 inches. The metallic paper really make the colors pop.
in my light, this dynamic guy is a fine example of a gold crowntail betta splenden. a bit rare also... very very hard to find a gold ct crown tail around here in the local bay area aquarium fish stores.
so many of us have had or still have these as aquarium fish in our homes... they make such awesome and lovely pets!
there has been an evolution explosion with breeders selectively breeding them for distinct looks. a master breeder once told me he sold one of these to someone in new york for $500 usd. a pair for $1,000 usd. this was during the earlier days when no one had seen anything like this, other than the typical veiltail variety. today we have crowntails, deltas, double tails, halmoons, halfmoon plakats, plakats , wild types and veiltails.
now it is Oct 2012 and I try finding these but have had no sucess to find a female to breed from
or a pair. will keep on the search for them!!
if anyone can find them please contact me!!!

i got new two boyfriends!! his name is Hidekazu. he is a gorgeous red one!
his godfather is my friend HOOTdog. thanks.
One of my betta, also known as Siamese Fighting Fish; he is a dragon scale variety with a gorgeous blend of blue, white & purple.
I chose to do b/w to cut down on the blur & noise that occurred while shooting through the tank.

This is a new fish, he was very small when I bought him, but is growing nicely now, and I love his spectacular colors. Had a hard time getting a good shot of him as he is quite shy!

I've got a bad feeling this female was stunted (old scales/fins, large eyes), but we'll see if she keeps growing or not.

My newest Betta, He is young and I expect he will grow quite a bit more tail fins. I love his stricking colors and all his spikes!
He's got bright red hot rod fins, so he's my hot rod Lincoln. Crowntail Betta fish. Decided to try the strobist method of shooting fish. Didn't have quite the set up described in the strobist post. Here: strobist.blogspot.com/2012/01/on-assignment-dude-for-lumi...
But it works. It's 2 580EXII's one in a Lastolite EZYBOX HotShoe for the white background and one bare being moved around trying different ideas. The backlight was at about 1/4 while the bare 580 hovered around 1/4 down to 1/8. Shot with a Canon 24-105L, Canon 7D, triggered with ETTL in manual mode and cropped and touched up A LOT. Not having a macro lens really made things a little difficult as far as focusing distances go, so getting him full frame on camera proved impossible. Also, I didn't have 4 lights to completely wrap him in light so I had to get lucky, and this was as lucky as I got.
